He is yelling it ironically, because that is what started The Wall idea for Roger Waters. He felt that it made no difference who is playing on stage, the audience just wanted to get drunk or high and have a good time, he was annoyed on The Animals tour about this, he felt that the audience didn’t came for the music and its message he even shouted at the audience (saying for god sake I just want to finish the fucking song) and even spat at someone in the audience and felt awfull afterwards, that is why there where in the live shows, a phony band standing on stage, with face masks of the Pink Floyd band members, its all irony, 😊

By far the greatest performance of Run Like Hell! Better than Pulse, better than Delicate Sound of Thunder, better than Roger’s The Wall rendition, nothing beats an angry Roger and angry Gilmour singing the song with the malice they felt for each other at this time. In the wise words of David Lee Roth, “that clash of opposing energies is dynamic and explosive”.You really just can’t compete with this explosive performance. Just goes to show how much stronger the sum of their parts is greater than themselves worlds apart.

The irony behind this song, especially Roger’s intro, is it expresses his contempt for stadium gigs and for those who indulge in rock’s staple method of audience participation. He really wanted everyone to sit and listen. I remember seeing the Floyd in 1970 and as they got to the conclusion of ‘Eugene’ they got quieter and quieter. When they ended there was silence until we responded with applause.

Had the great pleasure of seeing Pink Floyd in concert in 1975 in San Francisco. It was during their "Wish You Were Here" tour, and what was interesting was their song selection. They begin the set with the first song from the album "Wish You Were Here", then went on to play the entire album till the end. They then took an intermission, then came back and played the entire album " The Dark Side of the Moon" from beginning to end. Their one lone encore number was "One of These Days" from the album "Meddle". It was one of the most amazing concerts I'd ever seen, not to mention the wonderful theater props, effects & the wall of sound they showcased. A wonderful memory indeed. Thank you for posting this.
@jennifersman79905 жыл бұрын
They were also doing Echoes occasionally on the ‘75 tour. I wish I could’ve seen the ‘77 tour because as much as Roger has trashed it throughout the years it was the closest thing to a “Greatest Hits” show they ever did. It started with the Animals album played in a different order from the album, then after an intermission they did the complete Wish You Were Here album in order, then 2 songs from Dark Side and at a few shows they finished with Careful With That Axe, Eugene. I’ve heard boots from this tour and it was incredible

Henry in NorCal saw them in 77 Animals tour. Again in L. A. In 80 the Wall. What else can I say
@MattSmith-iq1ld5 жыл бұрын
It's funny because there really wasn't a proper "Wish You Were Here" tour. What is commonly called the WYWH tour took place between April 8 until July 5, 1975. During this tour they debuted "Have A Cigar," but "Welcome To The Machine" and the song "Wish You Were Here" were not played until the 1977 "Animals" tour. What was also weird is that the band were still playing "Raving And Drooling" (later turned into "Sheep) and "You Got To Be Crazy" (later turned into "Dogs") even though the decision had been made months ago to drop those 2 songs from the "Wish You Were Here" album. And then, of course, the "Wish You Were Here" album was not released until September 1975. I would do anything to go back in time and attend one of these shows. I saw an early Dark Side show, the Anaheim show on the Animals tour, and one of the L.A. Wall concerts, but I never went to this special 4/8-7/5 tour. It would've been especially great because "Echoes" is my favorite Floyd song, and it was the encore.
@MattSmith-iq1ld5 жыл бұрын
"Echoes" was played as the encore number are every gig on this tour. It wasn't just an occasional thing. see this page: www.setlist.fm/stats/pink-floyd-13d6adc5.html?year=1975

Funny after decades of bashing her, I actually met Yoko in NYC, 3 summers ago. In Central Park by the old Wollman Rink area. I had just grabbed 4 Sabrett's and was headed out of the park. Here comes Yoko, with a dog and she was looking right at me. It was the nicest stare (if thats possible) I was ever given and I said "Hello, it's an honor to meet you" (Fucking chicken shit phony I am, I always bashed her, even said "IF I EVER MET HER, I'D BLAH BLAH BLAH) and she replied "No siree, today, it's more than my pleasure" and I said "Well thank you" and then she made me laugh by saying "Hey is the Sabrett guys water fresh? If so, I'll go elsewhere" (Not everyone will understand that) and I said "Shit, it's gotta be 2 weeks old" and she replied with "Yummy!" and walked off. I was fucking stunned. Took me by complete surprise. I was totally caught off my guard. She was very sweet. And her doggy was just as lovely. I think the dog's name is Gemini, if memory serves me correct. I wanted to ask her shit about John but, I didn't. I didn't wanna sound like 987 billion other people, that have probably said the same shit to her over and over. I don't sit and listen to her music, or put on songs that have her on it, intentionally now but, I do think differently of her, from that day on.

For most of my life I have loved the Floyd, but never really rated Roger as a great bass player. It is only now that I see and hear him perform live that I appreciate just how good he is. Roger is a truly great bass player with a subtlety that is much missed in music these days. We all know Gilmour, Mason and Wright are, and were, brilliant musicians, but Roger was a great, great bass player and a fantastic singer. It goes without saying that Roger was a superlative songwriter. Perhaps the best of his time.

Before one of the Wall tour performances of Run Like Hell, Rog asked the audience, "Are you ready for Gilmour?" A lot has been made of their differences but I think there was love there. A very English, damn near inexpressive love, but love nonetheless.

yea they were good friends all of them were but the reasons why they split up was because Roger Waters wanted to keep writing conceptual albums and songs pretty much make the art and deep meaning shit he's always has been doing. But Gilmour just simply wanted to play. He felt that is if Waters was making things too complicated and all Gilmour wanted to do was make music and play that music. He was tired of Waters always complaining about the government, his childhood, and abusive teachers. So they split up. But in their prime I think they did like each other. Gilmour missed his friends which is why they came back together and they made a new album and now they're touring.

Best song on the album, and one of Pink Floyd's best songs ever. Dave Gilmour's ostinato sequences (arpeggio + dotted eighth note delays a.k.a. the "running guitar" sound he invented - which was liberally borrowed and played to death by U2's "The Edge") were groundbreaking and influenced countless musicians across numerous genres - from Rock and Metal to endless electronic artists in the Industrial, Techno, Electro Trance and Ambient genres.
