The Doors are simply IMO, the best band that ever existed. Yes I realize the weight of saying that but Morrison was such a talented genius and his band also so ridiculously talented, I have no choice but to admit it and mind you, I have been a huge Pink Floyd fan since 1979. This band was soooooooooooooooo DEEP. Over the years this band has grown on me and now it has become my favorite. The concert at the Hollywood Bowl where they do When the Musics Over , REALLY got to me.

You hit it right on the head. They had their own style. When the drummer was asked by Dick Clark what kind of style of music to they play, what do they call it?.................he said " we are on the other side of it, we just play it, it's up to people on the outside to place a category on it, not us. " Then of course he asked Morrison " why LA woman? " his answer was "because the west is the best"...............which of course is a line out of their song The End. I thought that answer was great.

@haroldsteinblatt2567
@haroldsteinblatt2567 3 жыл бұрын
That crossed my mind literally ... yesterday. He imitated no one. Listen to L.A. Women, there isn’t a song where he doesn’t do something interesting, really interesting, strange. One of the things that set Krieger apart was his slide playing. Totally original, nothing at all to to with the style we’re used to, inventive and scary. And the complete “Light My Fire” solo remains one of the greatest ever.. Morrison so dominated the band that Krieger did not get the respect he deserved. On the other hand, his post-Doors stuff was not nearly in the same category as his playing with Morrison. I have to assume that while the latter was often removed from the rest of the band - hurting himself, basically - he brought out the best in them. It’s a cliche, but a cliche based heavily on truth when it came to Morrison. Does his best album ever and, still in the thrall of his belief that he was the second coming of Rimbaud - he wasn’t - he goes to Paris on the heels of a masterpiece and essentially buries himself with his heroes. And it still bothers me 50 years later.

I saw them in concert 1970 Montreal Forum. In those days all tickets were the same price, you just had to get there 24 hours early and wait. I ended up in front of the stage and saw the whole show from there. As long as you didn’t try to jump on stage security would leave you alone. He was pretty hammered and forgot some words but what a show. The guy was on fire and filled with energy he was my hero and when he died it was a sad day.

morrison willed it. he had a great sense of theater and presence, along w/ a creative mind & lots of charisma. it helped that he had ray as a guide & great improv musicians around him. all said though, considering how little music influence he had before the age of 22, its amazing what he pulled off. savant like. a once in a generation talent that comes around. in his case far too brief a period though on stage.

good point, b/c went he exited the industry, the media & many of his peers had backstabbed & p*ssed on him. lots of jealousy & misunderstanding. to this day, david crosby still takes shots at morrison.... jim wasnt a gladhander, but he also didnt go after others. he went out strong though. LA woman is their second best album & is perhaps message wise their deepest insights into the usa & the West. as his father said, it was jim's destiny to do it his way. powerful visionaries w/ his type of singularity many times roll that way.

I would say in terms of poetic & musical means. An organ & no bass is pretty unconventional. Jim was a genius when it came to literature, and he infused that into 'The Doors'. Iggy Pop is an example of a student of Jim & The Doors. I could add more! 😊

A few years ago, after a long day at work, running on virtually no sleep, I made the long trek home ( I worked about 40 minutes from home). About 15 minutes into my journey home, I felt myself nodding off. Well, wouldn't you know I hear Jim's voice booming from the radio " A-Keep your eyes on the road, your hands upon the wheel." It was at that exact moment I opened my eyes and dodged a guardrail. That's right, Jim Morrison saved me from a potential accident. So whenever I hear this song, I always thank Jim and the rest of the band for "keeping my eyes on the road and my hands upon the wheel." Rock on \m/

I think his love of spoken word, film and theater played a key role in how he approached his very rich tone. Long live the Lizard King.

What I wouldn't give is to go back in time and see the Doors with Jim Morrison performing. I was only 7 years old at the time. I remember riding around with my older brother listening to the Doors. But of course I was too young to know how special the music was. My brother left for Vietnam and the Doors really defined that era in the 60's..

I saw the Doors play at the Whiskey A Go Go before they were famous. I mean, they were already famous in LA and Socal. He was decked out in the skin tight leather and concho belt and he slivered around the little stage. Do you realize that all that early stuff they did was with Ray Manzarek playing the bass notes with the foot pedals. But man, what a performace, The owner eventually said no more and turned off the power. No music. Bummer.

In my humble opinion this is with out a doubt the very best of the Doors music.What an album that was "Morrison Hotel". My mother brought me my very first set of head phones when she could not get me to turn Jim down very much. my foot stomping around the wooden floored bedroom air guitaring well before the term was coined drove her bonkers and me into ecstacy. I still say when you got this music you don't need drugs. Okay maybe a beer or 15.

Numerous singers have covered this song down the years including the likes of Eddie Vedder; nevertheless, only Jim's timeless voice can send chills down your spine like that.
