Holy shit Ross' brother in law in Shaun Marsh, he's one of the best players in the national game at the moment. He's even in the international team from time to time, that's nuts.

The ending is just.. it's like a sleepover. Those stupid things you do when you're at a friend's place and you try to imitate something you saw in a game or a movie. xD And then it evolved into randomly playing with toys or whatever is nearby to play with. I love it.

SPOILERS: This may be one of the best Game Grumps days in a while. We have a 20 minute Monopoly episode (which was pretty cool), full on live-action Game Grumps, and now a near 1 hour long video from Steam Train (which, to me, has been one of the better Steam Train episodes in a while). Also, the live action bit at the end of this reminded me so much of myself and my friends fooling around at home. Wow.

I don't know why but I know EVERY SINGLE rule of cricket. And when the score was 2/30, it meant you have 2 batters out and 30 runs. Edit: When the umpire does the sweeping motion, it's a four. When he puts both his arms in the air, it's a six. Edit: There are two types of bowlers in cricket: fast and spin bowlers. The spin input is to put either leg spin or off spin on the ball when you are using a spin type bowler.

Basics of Cricket explained (as best I can) The three sticks at each end are the stumps, on top of the stumps is the wicket WHen the Bowler throws the ball at you, you try to hit it as far as you can without it getting caught so you can either get it out on the full (For 6 points) or roll it out (For four) If one of the fielders gets the ball before it's out, the batsman can run to the other end of the pitch for single points When the batter leaves the line after a hit the fielders try to knock the wicket off the stumps before you can make it back in and if they are succesful the batter is out You can be caught out if the ball is caught on the full (like baseball) and you can get out if the bowler throws the ball into the stumps or a leg that is blocking the stumps (The latter being called an LBW-Leg before wicket) All in all, it's a stupid game, but fun to play

stickflux Sports were what people had to settle with before they had chess or Mario or Crysis, so it's natural that their rules are abstract. That being said, I see a trend in the recent Game Grumps videos, first they start playing retro games like Pong and even chess, and now they're playing sports. The logical next step would be such classics as "competitively practicing sprinting and fighting to increase chances of survival".

Tell Ross he needs to be watching the Australian show "The Code". It is a really good show so far and I think it might be more enjoyable for him, since it is set in his homeland. I honestly felt like Ross's personality was more transparent when he took on his Aussie accent. It somehow added a depth of understanding to his odd social twinges that aren't always there. He should use his native accent more often. I think the rest of the Grumps community, and myself, would get a kick out of it. If he feels so inclined. If not, that's cool too. I know from hearing actors talk about it, that once you work on losing your accent that it can be hard to go back and forth. Like after a while both will seem disingenuous.

viking977 You don't live in a place as long as he did without developing an accent. What likely happened is that when he moved here he changed it to fit in. Just like if you move from one region of the U.S. to another, you'll pick up that accent and colloquialisms. Sometimes after a certain age you will be too locked in to your speech patterns to "conform" to the area. I think Ross was still in the age range where he changed over to an American way of speaking. Though he definitely learned to speak while living in Australia. Like how he says, "Chemist" instead of "Pharmacist" and the infamous "Velociraptor" inflection. If he learned to speak exclusively in the States he wouldn't have those artifacts from his previous nationality.

Corey Carnes It's entirely possible he just never had a particularly strong accent to begin with. I mean I'm from the south but I don't go slinging out "y'alls" and "howdys" at people. Pretty much no part of anything I've heard Ross say has led me to believe that he's doing anything other than just talking like he normally would. It seems ridiculous that he's deliberately changing how he speaks to "fit in", especially given that he's not an actor.

Corey Carnes I'm an Aussie and I say Velociraptor right. This is the way he naturally speaks, but your first comment is making it sound like you want him to now actively try to sound Australian. Funnily enough, to most Australians I sound somewhat like an Americans despite never having lived there. In any case, my point is... ...Ross sounds like an Aussie here because he's getting mad, and that's when I sound most like that 'stereotypical' Australian... so yeah.

Ross is terrible at explaining things... For those who care I'll try to make it a little clearer: When you are batting you are trying to score "runs" you score runs by running from one end of the pitch to the other. If you hit the ball to the boundary it is worth 4 runs, if you hit it over the boundary without it touching the ground it is worth 6 runs. When you are bowling you are trying to get the batters out and limiting the amount of runs they can score, you can get them out by catching the ball before it hits the ground in the same way as Baseball, by hitting the "Stump" off of the "Wicket", or by LBW (which means Leg Before Wicket), an LBW is when a batter uses their leg to prevent the ball from hitting the Wicket which is not allowed. There are 2 ways to Bowl as well, which is why it changed on them in the game, you can either bowl "Spin" or "Pace". Pace is a fastball thrown straight at the Wicket, nothing fancy about it. Spin is a slower curve ball where you throw wide and try to go around the batter to hit the wicket. The first one that Arin knew how to use was pace. There are 2 main ways to play Cricket, one is the way they play in the video where there are a set number of "Overs" and you have to score as many runs as you can, an over is 6 Bowls. The other way is to keep playing until 10 batters are out, at which point the teams switch roles. 1-hand-1-bounce is a house rule used when playing Backyard Cricket, so Ross was wrong on that one, and the score was shown in the bottom left corner, when it says "Perth 1/20" that means that Perth has 1 man out and has scored 20 runs. This is a pretty basic overview but it covers the main points. But Ross, god damn it... You should know your countries game a little better :P
@Kwimbob
@Kwimbob 10 жыл бұрын
Ah sweet, thanks. I got to watch this video experiencing the game from Arin's point of view of just absolutely having no idea what was going on. I figured out "[# dudes bowler got out] / [points batters got]" and was beginning to understand that its always said to be such a long game because so long as the offense protects their stick thing, the defense has to keep pitching for quite some time. But that was all I could make out. The fact that this game used multiple dials on screen and required like 3 different controller inputs per turn definitely didn't help the learning curve of a clueless viewer. My only other knowledge of cricket was from reading Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, where its just portrayed in a joke about how its really only played so that there's an excuse for Englishmen to sit about and drink tea for extended periods of time without any action to disturb them - but, that rarely they'll all have to cheer softly for a bit when the wumbly jumbly gets bowled due to error on the part of the swingy wingy bat wielder. I wasn't interested enough after watching this that I'd read a wikipedia article even, but your post solved all of my extreme confusion very nicely. What a sport.

Zachary Quimby I'm glad I could help, I figured that there would be quite a few people watching who would have no idea about Cricket, and the Hitchhikers Guide didn't lie. Cricket is the kind of game that takes 8 hours to play with maybe 15-20 minutes of exciting moments throughout. Batting is pretty fun while you are at the Crease (The line that the batter needs to stand behind to not get out), otherwise the game is boring as bat shit.

Except cricket is even worse because it can literally take days for a match to end, and the match could end in a tie. That just makes it more confusing then. I'd only recalled what I heard once on Jimmy Fallon when he interviewed an actor who likes cricket, and he explained how long the matches take and that it's possible to end in a tie, and Jimmy proclaimed he would never want to sit through that. But I've also had a friend from New Zealand try to explain the rules because he plays it, and still never understood it. So I think it's hopeless for me to ever learn this sport.
