The GOAT Domingo. No wonder he had fans throwing entire bouquets of long stem roses at him after he'd perform this opera (famously at the Met, memorialized on the DVD, with Freni, Quillico and Ghiaurov). Zampieri's unalloyed, tractor beam soprano was so pure in its tone, some have a hard time hearing its lyricism. Interesting staging and largely it doesn't irk me, but the lighting, esp in the other upload of Ma lassu, is nearly film noir. As always Yoland, thanks for sharing from your glorious collection. Paz.

Domingo ottimo: giusto il colore, ben studiato il fradeggio, di buon gusto la musicalità.

from 5:24 - breathtaking: Domingo manages to alter the color of His voice. Have always noticed that ability of his: He posseses the voice of a myriаd of hues.

@Napolean Fully agree. He's a living legend for many excellent reasons. Paz.

Zampieri is simply breath-taking here. One of the most fascinating voices of the latter part of 20th century. To quote a couple of newspaper reviews regarding her performance in this »Don Carlo« at the Wiener Staatsoper back in 1992: "unrivalled intensity" (Die Presse), "fulminant interpretation" (Der Standard), "a spectacular Elizabeth" (Gramophone).

Domingo was a fine lyric tenor long before this when he thought he was a spinto… The rest we now. With a limited top he moved to baritone roles so I guess he will be singing bass roles before someone carries him off the stage?

Does also exist a video of the whole performance?

I have another clip of this performance from the last Act last scene but I don't think there's a full video of the whole performance.

Bravissimo Domingo però credo che il Don Carlo per eccellenza sia Carreras
