For years, I've only heard George interviews. Had no clue that Don was doing as many interviews as he has. Gotta say, I really enjoy hearing things from his perspective, how relatable he is, and the matter-of-fact nature to the things he reveals with no angst. Clearly an interview with Don is going to be a highlight if the interviewer has the chops. Definitely the case here. Great job, Chuck. I think a follow-up video of Dokken's guitar player Jon Levin, would be absolutely fascinating. Imaging; Juggling a career as a successful Beverly Hills lawyer, and moonlighting as an butt kicking hard rock guitar player and song writer. And still, having to make time for family. How could a lawyer even possible maintain a practice while out on the road doing gigs. Blows my mind.

it's incredible all you can get from a melomaniac narcissist when you push the right buttons. I feel sorry for the amount of crap his bandmates need to hear from him every time he opens up his mouth. Don would still be playing Young Girls and Stick to your guns somewhere in Germany if he had not found Lynch and had not had Pilson co-writing songs. That's a fact. Lynch put Donnie on the map. He was very lucky to find these two guys who wrote almost on its entirety - the hits - for Don, with the sole exception of Alone Again and Breaking the Chains. He should be thankful! He should speak highly of everyone around him because he would've ended producing records if not for his bandmates. Everyone that has worked with Donnie hates the guy. Long line-up of people who left the guy: Juan Croucier, Barry Sparks, John Norum, Reb Beach, Mark Boals, Sean McNabb, Jeff Martin, Bobby Blotzer..AND George and Jeff gave up on him too! This guy should get his act together and make amends to everyone. Have been a fan of the band since 82. But this guy is just a tough listen.

Excellent interview. I'm a huge DOKKEN fan since 1987. In my opinion, 'Back For The Attack' is one the greatest guitar albums ever. Unfortunately, Don DOKKEN sometimes comes off as delusional, stating that his solo on 'Too High To Fly' was better than George LYNCH's. Come on? That's like Sammy HAGAR stating that one of his solos was better than Edward VAN HALEN's. George LYNCH may have his quirks, but he's not delusional; on the contrary, Mr. LYNCH is one of the most talented musicians, and George is humble and gracious to other musicians. I can appreciate why George and Don never clicked. I highly doubt DOKKEN played to 60,000-80,000 people in Texas in 2003 (when Jon LEVIN joined).

Big fan of both Don and George, but I'm really baffled by his statement about George only playing that one solo. First, there is no solo on 'Too High to Fly' (which I always thought was a shame). Second, many of the solos on that record (Shadows of Life, Hole In My Head, If The Good Die Young, The Maze, etc) are clearly played by George because he has such a unique style that isn't easily replicated, and certainly not by Don (even though Don was actually a great lead player at one time).
@ChuckShute Жыл бұрын
@@VidCruzer82 interesting, other people thought it sounded like John Norum.
@fbettr2627 Жыл бұрын
@@VidCruzer82 I'm also a fan of Don and George. I purchased both LYNCH MOB and Don's 'Up From The Ashes'. Don DOKKEN is full of you know what. One only needs to look at 'Dysfunctional' songwriting credits to see he's lying about George LYNCH's contributions. LYNCH was a requirement of the record deal with Columbia Records. Don's also stated that 'Dysfunctional' went gold in the U.S. 'Dysfunctional' sold a respectable 200,000 units but nowhere near 500,000 units. The Soundscan era doesn't lie. I don't understand why Don needs to put George down to elevate himself. Don's story about Warren De Martini in DOKKEN is another fabrication. George recorded 'Breaking The Chains' in Germany in 1981.

In the modern era videos are huge. I wish they did all videos for broken bones. Also. I wish you confirmed he played all the solos on dysfunctional

I thought I did? Isn’t that what he said? Except for Too High To Fly.

@@ChuckShute I've been chasing this information for a while and usually when that part of the subject comes up it's very vague because Don's throwing so much information out at you. But he was not confirmed playing the guitar solos and I was just dying to find an interview where he says yes, that is me playing guitar solos. He says all guitars but there is somebody else playing those solos and if Don can play like that then holy cow. I just want it confirmed

@@hollandrocksls maybe he’s being coy on purpose. Idk.

@@ChuckShute no it's not that. It's a situational thing and an after thought. No one has hit the lightbulb and thought. Wait if George didn't play the solos. Who did ? If Don did those solos I am absolutely positive that would be huge news because no one knows of him as that kind of guitar player. I also recall don stating he wrote the main riff for Mr scary but that was years ago when I heard that and my mind could play tricks on me. I also commented on your video as that happened so it was absolutely fresh on my mind and I've been watching all these interviews and I'm not sure why no one has caught on to that yet. I have been a die hard fan my entire life tho.

@@hollandrocksls interesting, I’ll have to hammer them more on that next time. Or another member of the band.

Hey Don I'm always watching 👀 😉, my current favorite of today's world is Chris Daughtry, a true metal head you'd probably love him he's your speed ect, anyway Chris Daughtry now does a live cast on his page strictly for the fans for like a little over an hour where we can ask him questions and he answers really cool it would be great if you would consider doing it he's doing it often, it's better than getting attacked in public every where you go, and you answer one's you want ect and yes I've seen Chris get mad at some people too 😉 😘

1:13:00 not true, at all.... The last 8 bars of the "into the fire " solo are CLEARLY NOT the same exact riff repeated.. the first 4 bars George Riffs 4 note runs that go up, up , up, up.... the second four bars he goes up and walks it back down for 8 note runs before moving up to anothe 8 note run.... any guitarist can hear that.

38:45 I never realized the song Kiss of Death was written about AIDS, as Don professed here!! Literally took out Robbin Crosby from Ratt.🎉

I wonder if the song I remember on heaven comes down is different from the song I remember from the lightning strikes again album?
