Making Eladio a menacing powerful Don also was a great work of all Characters involved, by showing this unpleasant tension when interacting with him. The fake smiles, the lowerd heads, even Hector knew his place and when he had to be silent. Same goes for Lalo - he might’ve acted like a buddy but remember his face when Nacho asked him what happens if the Don doesn’t like him. All these little parts made Eladio becoming a great character. "The Greek" comes from Don Eladio's name and he is likely part Greek. There are Greek Mexicans no different than Greek Americans. The Greek word for Greece is Ellada. Eladio is likely a Spanish-ized version of that (though the Spanish name for Greece is Grecia.) because double-l is pronounced y in Spanish and you wouldn't give a man a name ending in "a". He's probably not fully Greek, since his last name is Vuente. Mark Margolis was also in Scarface, by the way. It's slightly interesting that in that film he was going to set off a car bomb that would have killed some innocent kids, but Tony killed him first. Then in Breaking Bad he finally got to set off his bomb.
@potzblitz65772 жыл бұрын
Almost. I don't speak much Spanish but I've dug into the name and it's just a (seemingly quite old) forename. Like its Italian twin "Elladio", the name derives of the ancient greek name "Helladios", meaning Man from Greece. You've deduced it all correctly, I just can't resist to point out the details. ;)

As much as Eladio was a powerful cartel don, I think the reason he was able to remain in power for a long time was because the Salamanca family provided the muscle. Lalo mentioned to Gus that while Gus had trucks to deliver the goods, it was the Salamancas who provided the protection. The Twins alone could have easily wiped out Eladio and his gang if Hector wanted to. The thing is everyone was blended into the system and they were making good money so all was fine, until Gus and Hector got into a little private feud. That was where everything came crashing down.

"El Santo" wasnt that far off from Don Eladio imho... Ok Eladio was residing in an extremely luxurious hacienda. where El Santo was hidden away in the deep jungles of Bolivia. El Santo 'only dealt in Metric Tonnes'. which means íf he sold his high-purity product, he was sure that his buyers were serious enough to not only come up with that kind of money, but also powerful enough to get that stuff through! .. Small detail, but very important about the intelligence of El Santo.

Steven Bauer is an incredibly talented actor, and he sure stole the show in every scene he appeared in both shows. If the AMCs request of a third spin off is approved, I think a spin off series with a young don Eladio, Gus and Hector Salamanca would be the best bet, with younger up and coming actors playing them. Perhaps with Giancarlo doing a narrating voice over the course of the series. Seeing as they are approximately 50-60 years old at the time of their death, there is a lot of history with them to explore.

The reason Eladio got sick of Hector was because he put his feud with Gus over making money. And after Hector's stroke he basically became useless to the cartel beyond having the cousins as muscle.
