This song tears at my heartstrings...makes me miss my Grandma soo bad. I would lay in floor of our sharecropper house and listen to the trains every nite with the ol' box fan in my face. Not only am I a Henley solo and Eagles fan, but this album brings out the smells of dirt, sounds of cicadas and a hint of lost loves and growing older.....It makes me homesick for just one more night on the porch with my Mother and Grandparents..all who are in the distance now. I can only hope he explores more down this pathway, I would love to take another walk wherever he may wander.

The whole CD is a "hats off" to traditional country music yet with just enough "modern" to satisfy millenials. This particular song gives such a feeling, you can almost hear the whistle of that train in the distance. Don Henley is a GENIUS!

I am honored to be so anointed by another music lover who is able to appreciate Don Henley's stunning artistry. My latest inspiration from the singing drummer from Texas is his "wedding song" on the "Inside Job" CD, especially the final verse in which he assesses the likelihood of a marriage working out. Thanks for truly making my day, Catherine S. Todd, by God.@@CatherineSTodd

This song reminds me of the state of Thomas the Tank Engine, the show that made me a train enthusiast. The characters were lovely and the scenery was beautiful, making the railway seem like a magic place. But today, due to rebranding, Thomas has become a shadow of its former self. But I hope for the future, that Thomas will rediscover its roots, allowing children worldwide to experience the Train in The Distance once more! Thank you Don and Lucinda for this lovely song to keep me going through times like these!

This song brings back so many memories for me, Luckily i can still hear this at Lake James, sometimes,At Northfork there at the old Trestle at the wee hours of around 2 to 4 in the am. morning hrs,me an the dogs are in my camper and actually hear the train in the distance, and my memories go back to when i put Quarter's and penny's on the track behind my Dad's barber Shop in Forest City of the old Sea Board Line that ran through then, and could hear the train behind my house at the time as well. Even back then i would be on the track's for hours walking in one rail,Keeping my balance for as long as i could before finally falling off the one rail!, Now sadly' i believe its unlawful to even be on or around the rail road track's at all. Ha' wish i knew how many football field's i envisioned' that i went without falling back then on the ol' Sea Board Line! Thanks Don Henley, for this Awesome Song. By the way, The WHOLE Cd is Great, too!

+Faith Matthews I agree with that overall, but there are a few songs that I think break that mold, this being one of them... Hes still gotta make money. I think he'll be like joe Nichols in that most of his songs are commercial but he'll throw in a few for the more traditional folks...if he makes another album.
