If this doesn't get to you after just losing Nanci, you're not human. Don McLean is one of this country's best lyricists. He is to his genre of music what Joyce was to literature. RIP Nanci.

This is beautiful beyond words. I didn't even know Don & Nanci had performed any duets together. But was reading on-line of different artist's tributes to Nanci Griffith after she passed away on August 13, 2021. Don McClean's was one of them and he mentioned about two duets he had done with Nanci. So found my way here to listen. Just blown away by their duet. RIP, Nanci Griffith.

I didn’t know who Nanci Griffith was, until I heard the news from the BBC about her death. She did ‘Folk and Country’? That sounds great!! Since then I looked up Nanci, and have enjoyed her music so much. ❤ Edit: I love Don McLean too! I have a ticket to see him in Sydney in April ❤ The last time he was here, he had a cold, and couldn’t sing so he just spoke the lyrics 😥

And I love you so The people ask me how How I've lived 'til now I tell them, "I don't know" [Verse 2] I guess they understand How lonely life has been But life began again The day you took my hand [Chorus] And yes, I know how lonely life can be The shadows follow me And the night won't set me free But I don't let the evening get me down Now that you're around me [Instrumental Break] [Verse 3] And you love me, too Your thoughts are just for me You set my spirit free I'm happy that you do [Verse 4] The book of life is brief And once a page is read All but love is dead That is my belief [Chorus] And yes, I know how loveless life can be The shadows follow me And the night won't set me free But I don't let the evening bring me down Now that you're around me [Verse 1] And I love you so The people ask me how How I've lived 'til now I tell them, "I don't know"

The Song "AND I LOVE YOU SO" by Don Mclean, (partial verse)... "The Book of Life is BRIEF, and once a PAGE is READ, all but LIFE is DEAD, that is my belief."... I guess there is some TRUTH about this Song based on the level of "Human Experiences," otherwise Don Mclean will not even write it down... Remember when you were just dating, the ADRENALINE of SEXUAL DESIRE and ATTRACTION was so HIGH, you could not get enough with each other, but the moment you got married and have a family (Children)... the Sexual Desire and Attraction NATURALLY start to fade away, even if you love, trust, honor more your spouse today than before... Is this a Natural Phenomenon?
Love it - still the first "d"s (at the end of words in the first solo) sound too strong.

I love both of these artists' work. Sadly Don McLean no longer has the voice he used to, and also his guitar is QUITE out of tune...Nanci does a beautiful job as usual. This is a bit like watching Brandi Carlile perform with Kris Kristofferson at Joni Mitchell's 75th birthday concert... Nanci is saving the day here...though Don gets better as the song goes on. It starts out pretty rough though. Also, neither of these artists' need all those schmaltzy strings and harp glissandos to support them. I feel like this would have been so much more beautiful if it was just the two of them playing guitar and singing. But...I'm happy it happened either way, I suppose. But if *I HAD BEEN PRODUCER*!...😜 It would have been better. These singers don't need an orchestra to make their songs beautiful. Sorry, rant over. I was super excited to see this duet when I saw the title of the video...and I don't feel it showed either of them at their best, sadly. God I'm so CONFLICTED.
