I have great respect for Don, as he and I worked and wrote on many recording dates of the great Keely Smith at Capitol in L.A. There was a sax solo on one of the ballad charts that I wrote and he said he’d like to make the solo sound like Getz. And man, it sent chills. Don is a dear friend and will have my admiration as a player and as a friend for ever.

Wonderful interview. Don Menza was a monster in so many ways. His comments here are so reflective of what I dig about him. He's so respectful of of others. I ran into him a few times in Chicago, worked with him as a live sound engineer in San Jose much later. His writing was wonderful.

Don’s teacher (and mine for a little while) was John Sedola. Buffalo had Don, Grover and many others. Very lucky.
