and Charlie Chaplin didn't have to talk to make people laugh, times change, Rickles and these comedians didn't swear because the censor would not let them, not because they didn't know any swear words, don't be so naive, you do not what your parents had to do so you would be born don't you?, what do you think they called it? Don Rickles was great but you can bet your life that when he was in clubs and some of the dives he worked as a young comedian the air was blue, he just could not transfer that to Television, now they can so they do.....but they pushed smoking on young Kids back then and they don't now, that was a lot more profane and vulgar to any thinking adult than a swear word or two, enjoy the show as I do, but don't try to imply that they were better just because they didn't use profanity, they were good because they were good, full stop!

@PaulDA20004 жыл бұрын
Time 4 Change I see this type of remark all the time on here, that they didn’t say any curse words. And let me qualify by saying I love Don Rickles in these roasts are my favorite of all roasts. If there’s a reason there was no crossing because they were on network TV back then and it wasn’t allowed. There was no cable. There are these type of roasts at that time with Don Rickles and others that were not televised and there was plenty of crossing and sexual jokes. There are a few of them on KZbin. Believe me, if there was a cable type network years ago they would’ve been a lot more graphic and cursed quite a bit.

Don had a lot of race humor in his comedy, but I have seen interviews with people that knew him, they said in reality, he didn’t have a racist bone in his body. Supposedly one of the sweetest guys ever.
@vincentsartain30613 жыл бұрын
Most if not all of the celebrities of color at the Roast table knew Don was spoofing with the faux "ethnic / racism" humor. Others like Carroll O'Connor and Mel Brooks similarity utilized the same kind of satirical humor as a demonstration of how stupid TRUE racial prejudice and bigotry really are, but modern viewers can't seem to wrap the idea around their heads and tend to mix parodies of racist humor with the genuine, bigotry-motivated racist humor.
