Want to hear a funny story... By funny I mean terrible. For my second child I asked for the vernex not to be washed off and they called CPS on me. I was sitting there with my newborn baby girl and a hospital called CPS. All the nurses treated me like a criminal. My first baby was sent home with me without a bath all he got was wiped down till his cord feel off then he got his first bath. He still had the vernix on him when he got home. I never had any issues with his skin. No dry flakes skin no baby acne nothing. My second born was washed right away (didn't know about the benefits of vernix) and for the first 3 months he had the worst dry skin and baby acne. Plus I felt like he didn't smell right I now realize when they smell like you longer the deeper fast bond. My second and I did bond it just took longer.

There is a tradition that my family follows, when a baby is born, they will not be washed, the baby will not be washed or bathed for a few days, after that, the one with the most experience with babies and newborns, would warm up a room, prepare warm water and basin in that room, and some traditional olive oil soap, and gently give the baby it's first ever bath, it is a tradition that has made sure all the babies in my family are healthy from these problems

@beebutt7244Ай бұрын
You cannot get eczema from anything ma'am. Eczema is literally an autoimmune disorder much like atopic dermatitis and psoriasis, so no. Your kid did NOT get eczema from daily baths, the daily baths just made the eczema more inflamed. One of my littles has psoriasis (I do as well) and a weekly bath did him great, twice a week inflamed the psoriasis too much but it certainly did not cause it. Please don't say things that spread misinformation, babies don't just catch eczema from baths.

I'm glad I did my research before having my babies, I refused a bath for both of mine so far, and was delighted when my second child was born covered with a thick layer of vernix(my first was pretty squeaky clean). I remember I didn't even rub it in or anything, and within the golden hour period, most of it had vanished into her skin and mine, and she was left looking clean and soft. I don't know everything there is to know, but both my children waited nearly a week for their first real cleaning, and they have never had issues with dry skin or eczema. I wish I'd found this out before having 4 C-sections. But babies can be swabbed with your vaginal secretions after a C-section so that they get the benefit of moms micrbiome. People are going to look at you funny if you ask for it. But it can be truly beneficial. I'm in no way shape or form considered what you'd call a crunchy mom. I recommended all expecting mothers deeply consider and demand this as part of their birth plan.

I told Mayo clinic I wanted a delayed shower for the baby (was in birth plan too I believe), which to me automatically means don't wipe the baby down when it's born. Soon as she was born, a nurse started wiping the baby down, I said I want a delayed bath (reminded them). Midwife said "yes, we are doing delayed cord clamping" (which was in my birth plan). I said, "no delayed bath". Then the midwife and one of the nurses (one who was wiping baby) smiled and said "yeah..yeah".. then nurse continued to wipe baby! Maybe I should have been more clear. Idk, what's done is done.

No. But will it probably get rid of some of that stuff that’s on the baby’s skin? Yes. We do it to evaluate the APGAR score of a new born. (Please look it up it’s cool I just don’t wanna type more) but if we don’t wipe the baby down to stimulate it we may not know if they’re okay or if we need to intervene. WHO recommends to wait at minimum 6 hours, but preferably 24 hours, before washing a baby. There was a time they didn't know washing hands after working with corpses was necessary before assisting in a delivery. I get why they wanted things as clean as possible after that, but now they know it's better to leave it on. Fatalities did go down significantly after they started cleaning everything, so of course it took a while to figure out that it was good for the baby. I think we can all be glad that they don't experiment a lot with newborn babies. Medical knowledge has saved so many lives, and they're constantly figuring out new (and old) things. But if there is meconium mixed in there it's safer to wash it off straight away.

A lot of people don’t realize, but newborn babies, not only smell fine, they actually smell really good. They just need a quick wipe down and they’re good to go. No need to wash them immediately. In india this is a pretty common practise.

I doing a water birth this time so how would that effect the vernix
@mamanatural28 күн бұрын
Water birth does not completely remove the vernix on a baby. Vernix is typically still present even after a water birth. The warm water may rinse off some of the vernix, but a significant amount usually remains.

@mamanatural okay good. I was worried because this is the first time I'm going to be giving water birth if my obgyn clears me to do so. If not I'll probably be in a birthing center.

My mom had only c-sections, but with my brother (her first baby) she was encouraged to kiss his forehead right after he was out. She tells me that she had to stay with her lips all covered in vermix because she couldn’t move because of the IVs and had to wait for somebody to help her clean her mouth. She said that as cute as that moment was, it also felt nasty on her lips 😂

It is common knowledge in our culture that children who are not washed properly after birth develop a strong body odor; so your video really surprises me.😅

Well, my sister was bathed at the hospital and her skin was soft and perfect. Ever hear of cod oil for babies? Works as a great moisturizer or whatever for babies. Also, our clomate is warm so leaving a baby to sweat and cry is just gonna give a headache

How are they gonna be swaddled or wear clothes covered in gunk?

The hospetl wanted to bath my 3 baby (she's 3 months old now). I told them that I wanted to wait with that, and I'd do that at home, witch I did a week later.

When my grandson were refused first baths, the nurses had to wear gloves before holding them.
@jadormycc881921 күн бұрын
They should wear gloves regardless if the baby is bathe or not. You wouldn’t want their dirty hands going on a newborn. Hospital is a dirty place and there are a lot of bacteria floating around there. Speaking as a nurse.

@jadormycc8819 , I get that. But, ironically, only after the baby's protection is washed away do they feel safe holding the baby ungloved.
@itsmynameiwontshareit144619 күн бұрын
@@DebiQ1830 I mean yeah that makes total sense. Mom's budily fluids might be good for the baby, but they're definitely not sanitary for a stranger. In fact that can even be dangerous if the baby is for example covered in blood or excrement. That's why it's important they glove up 🧤 so they don't get infected with anything that mom might have.

My daughter never got her first bath until the day of leaving the hospital.
