This couldn't have been more perfectly timed for me. I was listening to you both as I was painting a large piece of crapstraction. The message to "just keep working" and to "keep making art even if it's bad" forced me to keep my brush in my hand. Thank you for all you do to keep artists effecting on their own behalf. I look forward to buying Jerry's book.

Sister Wendy, Happy little clouds of Bob Ross, Jerry Saltz. I actually watched sister Wendy videos & looked at her books & love her. And I love happy little clouds!!! Yet, like the interviewer who was criticized by our beloved critic, (for "crapstraction"), in my case, I was excommunicated by him!!!! Totally broke my heart!... hmmmm?????? This podcaster is a great example of unconditional love & acceptance, (which I also have or I wouldn't be listening to this talk). It seems that's the best art world to create... Love wins. Peace. Blessings. Praise Jesus.

They can’t make money selling art, so they’re gossiping around the art topic instead. If they were real artists, they’d be painting. Not wasting time on gossip about art hobby. Art is NOT a business and people don’t buy original art. They’re BROKE. That’s why you can only make money gossiping about art, but not by actually being an artist. Be careful who you follow! If you didn’t make a liveable income from art after 2-3 years of watching these garbage videos, YOU are the customer (watching ads). Don’t waste your time on these fakers. Get a job to support your art hobby and stop watching this сrар 😂

This resonated with me more than I thought. I listened to it again. . . the inner demons are real. I have been withdrawing for a while now. Get on with it! Time to make some bad art and share it with another artist. "You must commune with your own kind." "Finish the dam thing!" "We need to take the money." "Two pandemics." So many gems in Art Is Life.

Art is a hobby. You need a real job to support yourself and buy art supplies. But people are broke, they don’t buy art. Making income from this hobby is unrealistic. You’ll have better chances buying a lottery. Too many people are awesome at art, but there’s almost no demand.

Your description of him surprised me because it fits the art critic he took over for at The Village Voice: Peter Schjeldahl. When Jerry Saltz took over the contrast in the tone was a shock. It got cold, ruthless and ugly. Maybe he has mellowed. His articles used to belittle the artists he was writing about. It was mean and dark. Hearing him admit to being an asshole helped. Maybe I can let go of what he once was.
@gathercreatelivewithleslie83402 жыл бұрын
I don't think art criticism is necessary, it's just that persons opinion anyway. Forever, people have preferred whatever is normal and usual for them. Every revolutionary artist has done something different and unconventional. If they had listened to critics it would have stunted them, Van Gogh, Picasso, Monet. We don't need art critics to tell us to like something or someone to tell me if I don't like it something is wrong with me.

He should've stood his ground since his critique of the soup situation is just as reasonable as the critics' views. Getting gaslit so easily because some of the people he cares about having a different view on things and ultimately getting them to you is pathetic.
