They aged the characters up in the show, but having Armand be a teenager would have been a problem, especially when that's the problem they are deliberately dealing with by aging up Claudia. Lestat and Louis were in their twenties when they became vampires in the books. It's definitely worth it to have these actors.

Armand became my favorite character after this episode... he's just so interesting and mysterious, and has so much depth. I can't wait for season 3!

5:40 I agree. And it's not about age really, it's more about experience and acting range many young actors just don't seem to possess. There are shows where young characters are played by young actors who aren't mature enough to fully grasp the characters they're playing (because most young characters in the books are written by adults). I'm glad IWTV didn't stay true to the "books" age and decided to make an adult gothic romance instead of a teenage drama. I didn't really care about age in the books, but in the show it would be a completely different matter and would cheapen it visually, as you said.

Also if you cast too young then the actors more visibly age. Say the show goes on for ten years. Actors who are a “book accurate” 20 years old will then be 30 by the time it is done. An actor who is 30 and plays until 40 will not visibly age as drastically. Plus with the subject matter of the show, I think it feels and looks more comfortable to have slightly older actors. And what else is really really or lost by changing the characters ages? I don’t get why that would be such a sticking point for someone.

I mean, the books aren't teen dramas, they're adult gothic horror / etcetera. (Just because a book has young characters in it doesn't automatically make it for younger audiences.) Ssoo..... it would have been disingenuous not to aim them for an older audience. There's also labor laws that limit how much time can be spent filming with actors and actresses who aren't adults and (understandably) probably certain restrictions on the type of content they can be given and how/why which can make filming a hassle. The things these characters go through are horrific things for anyone to go through at any age, most of their plotlines do not actually need to be endured specifically by younger persons to hit just as impactfully, unless you lack a bit in the empathy department[ in my opinion]. 🙂 ((But maybe that's just me😅😁😁🤷🤷♀️🤷🏻♂️ ..idkk.))

I love this episode, it's the most tightly written episode of the series. Every line is meaningful. Armand is such a complex character, he's always watching and manipulating and twisting. But he has his own trauma too. I think you're wasting time if you're looking for a "bad guy" - every character does terrible things.

Yes, Lestat was alive when Armand contacted him with telepathy. He just refused to tell Louis that Lestat said he loved him. I like that you actually ask questions when you are confused about something and are curious.

I love this episode so much. They filmed it in order. It's like "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?" with vampires. It's the first episode of the season they filmed so that Delainey could have time to get into Claudia's character (the casting was not long before filming began).

Yes, Armand indeed change/erased/manipulate their memories. Don't know if you're still watching the episode insider in the end but it helps making some answers more clear.

they can't ask armand, cuz they know he'll lie. and armand confirms their suspicions when he says the exact same thing louis told daniel when armand was already gone, about preserving louis' happiness and having a hunch that daniel would prove helpful. meaning armand planted those words in louis' brain, and louis can't remember.

Yeah this show (and the books) does not have heroes and villains in the typical way that shows/books do... There's no true good guys or bad guys. Every character has good aspects about them and flaws. I wouldnt say Louis is the bad guy or the villan. He's done some horrible things. And he's an unreliable narrator... But to be honest the MAJORITY of the characters in the book series have done the same things... bad things and are an unreliable narrator... Louis is just kind of one of the most unreliable out of all of the unreliable narrators in the book series. But none of them are entirely good or entirely bad people. There are some reacters out there who are trying to look at this show and book series as a more classic type of storytelling where there are clear defining lines between the good guys and the bad guys and that just doesn't exist here. Because all of the characters are vampires and vampires are monsters.... The show has even said via Real Rashid vampires don't have the same morality system that humans do and so they don't look at good versus bad actions in exactly the same way.
