I’m 38 years young and I don’t like lifting fuel cans… as for cabs, the only negatives are higher cost, higher center of gravity, and fixed height. Most ROPS fold if you need low overhead clearance. I run a 40+ year old Ford tractor with no cab in the woods all the time. I wouldn’t mind a cab to keep branches out of my face when mowing trails and keeping the ticks off me! Oh, and keeping me out of the pollen. Maybe the savings on Claritin could pay for the cab? 😂

David here from Hidden Acres Outdoors. We recently bought a TYM T574 Cab model with hydrostatic and love it. The purchase was made in no small part from research we did on your and Tony's channels. I had heard all of the hype about cabs and woods and was a bit apprehensive at first but I've come to find out that that's all it is - hype. I will admit that what helped was the Mini Clip from Precision Manufacturing (or even a cheap electric pole saw from Lowes) in getting a bit more clearance from trees and overhanging branches, but so far so good and I'm extremely comfortable with taking a cab in the woods. And like you said, if you bump a hornets nest or a yellow jacket ground nest in an open platform I promise you that it'll ruin your day. Been there, done that with both. Keep the vids coming and God Bless you and yours.

I use my 494 Cab Tractor in the woods at deer camp, that is what is primarily used for. Only thing I ever broke is the antenna on the top of roof. I replaced it with an antenna that mounts inside of cab, problem solved. I broke front windshield on tractor hauling it down the road. That's what I have insurance for, I paid deductible and they paid to replace glass. I had an open station tractor, that's all I ever ran until I got attacked by ground bees while cutting grass. I don't wish that on anyone, it hurt getting hit by bees. That is why I sold open station and went with a cab, bees can't get me anymore and I'm comfortable.

as far as I know the 574 and 494 are the only large frame compact tractor with mechanical fuel injection. the least computers and sensors of any modern tractor to my knowledge. there is a vidjas called KUKJE VS EVERYBODY ELSE. maybe a vidja about the easiest tractor to work on? I'm at 96 hours with no Regen yet. I do not run it hot. 85 % auto throttle on my 494. once in awhile I run it at 2000 rpm for 20 min. also down the road when warranty is up I'm told these you can put a straight pipe on but you have to unplug data logger??? that's what makes your machine different than all the others. great vidja Mr. hank

I have to have a cab due to bees ,especially now they are swarming. I’m 69 years old can’t run like I use to. I’m South of San Antonio,Texas. Summers are crazy,I can’t take heat like I could growing up here. I’m on 42.5 acres. I have cleared around 19 acres. Couldn’t have done it without a Cab. I’ve got 813 hrs on my Mahindra 6075 haven’t broken anything yet, besides u joints on driveshafts on my implements.

I own 3 different tractors and a skid steer. My only regret is that none of them have a cab on them (the skid steer has a cab, but it's still an open station). My biggest reason is as you know, it gets very hot/humid here in Florida in the summer. Having A/C would be so nice to have. I live on 35 acres of woods here in north/central Florida. It is the same for me and my wife, we cleared and cleaned up a lot of it by ourselves using a sub-compact tractor, chainsaws and a lot of hard work. I wouldn't trade it for anything and nobody can pay me enough to move back to the city.

I was going to bush hog a field that was wet and was thinking about taking the backhoe off my 4500 lb tractor and mow it with that but ran out of time so I mowed it with the Kubota M7040 which weights about 7500 lbs. I was very happy with that choice when a very mad bumble bee ran into the windshield before it got to me. I had another very mad one run into the door. I have no doubt they were trying to sting me. They were wicked mad! I was very happy to have that glass between us. God bless you all!

I built a guard for hydraulic filter and hydraulic connections on my 494 cab, never had an issue with tractor in woods and I go through some rough stuff in South Louisiana swamps. The main thing is to take your time and don't get in a hurry when in the woods on any tractor.

Howdy Hank. I own a Kioti ck2610hst. I don’t mind the fuel tank out back. I don’t have a cab. As far as hydraulic lines, my son in law has an older JD790 that I really like the way the lines are routed. Totally out of the way and neat and clean looking. You would think that the tractor companies would know to route them in a safe and easy to access location 🤔🤷‍♀️. 🚜🚜 Anyway, nice video and keep them coming.

I've seen some videos and stills of t494s and t574s, all newer red wheel models, with steel line running vertical along the cab then turning 90° and coupling to shorter hoses.

While glass breaks. It's so much better than being in the heat or cold. I bought a branson 4815ch. I didn't even consider an open station tractor when I bought it. And when working in the woods it's so nice to not get slapped in the face with a branch that might get hung up on the loader. Cabs and open stations each have their place. Get what you want and what will work for you in your situation. For me, I will take a cab any day.

Excellent video…I am getting a cab on my T574 too. Thank you for the actual experiential information. Now, can you recommend a good video (since I can’t seem to find one) which defines exactly for the TYM, what type of lubricant goes in the axles and the transmission and the hydraulic system? I sure would appreciate it if you can’t name one or direct me to one, would you consider doing one?

Agree with you 1000% Hank. I have closing on 500hrs on my Kioti Cab RX and am in the woods a lot. Have not had a problem. Trimmed my lanes up and pay attention and be careful. Like you said I think my cab has saved me getting smacked in the head and face more times than I can count. Same with fuel tank is in the same place but does have a skid Plate. I laugh ever time some says don't get a cab you will be replacing glass all the time.

I always found the debate about a cab tractor versus an open station tractor in the woods to be a stupid one. Because if cabs on equipment in the woods were such a big deal they wouldn't have them on commercial logging equipment. Every piece of commercial logging equipment you can buy now has a fully enclosed GLASS cab with heavy roll over bars and steel mesh over the windows to help protect YOU from getting hurt. The headache racks and heavy mesh over the windows aren't there to stop the glass from getting broken it's there to protect the operator. I swear, people come up with all kinds of stupid reasons to find SOMETHING to debate over. As for the hydraulic hoses flopping in the breeze, they do have the potential to eventually snag on something. It doesn't mean they will but it is a possibility. But for me that's not a concern, I just find it to be sloppy hose placement. Especially if you're buying a machine from a supposed "premium" brand such as John Deere who charges three times the price as their competitor for the same amount of tractor on offer. When spending that kind of money clean and tucked hose placement should be a standard. I didn't notice that about my little Massey Ferguson until the dealer pointed it out to me. That all of my hydraulic hard lines for the loader are cleanly tucked behind the loader arm. Where as with the pricier competing John Deere I looked at all of the hydraulic hoses were flopping around in broad daylight. Such a thing never passed my mind because I just went with the best machine for my budget. Which just happened to be made in a better manner than the pricier machine I was looking at. :)

The fuel tank thing is kind of funny....I guess people don't realize where the fuel tank is on their car, truck, or SUV...Most don't have any skid plates either, and people go crashing through stuff all the time with their SUVs and trucks and don't seem to care LOL. Having the fuel tank fill lower would be nice....I use a transfer pump when I fill up my tractor...the filler on my Kubota BX2680 is on the right fender, yeah you can lift the jug up there, but the stupid hand hold is in the way to really get the spout in the filler at the right time without getting fuel everywhere...so I set the jug on the floorboard of the tractor, and use the transfer pump. I use the transfer pump from Harbor Freight....about $13, and uses a couple of D-Cell batteries.

Tractors are build to work and as such are build “Tractor Tough”. The fear of breaking glass, puncturing fuel tanks or breaking hydraulic lines is not a real worry for the vast majority of tractors. You will most likely find that most damage is the result of operator error, not poor design. Operator proficiency and observance of your surroundings is the true key to damageless tractor use in a wooded area. You need to understand your equipment and its capabilities. On a personal note, my tractor is in the woods more that it is out and I really wish it had a cab……

1) Florida having “woods” is a laughable offense! Y’all have thickets! Want to roam around actual wooded areas, then come KY.. 2) Deposing things that are personal preference is pointless and impossible. If you don’t want a cab because of said reasons don’t buy one, neither is right or wrong! Is there more liability with obstacles in woods (or a pole barn) yes, that’s obviously laws of physics! Good video though
