My name is Jolene and I just want to say well done and thank you!! Do you realize how many people sing that song "Jolene", to me when they find out my name? Its all I can bare because, everyone I meet knows that song and nearly anyone that sings it, really should not...ever....not even in the shower! I've been hearing it for half a century now!! 😆🤣😂🤣Lol!!

I've always said Jolene is blaming the wrong person. Good lyrics.

I mainly like the song Jolene because of the closeted wlw vibes. It's like Dolly's going, "she's so stunning that even I, a totally hetero woman, want to make out with her. Of course my man will leave me for her, *I* would leave me for her!"

The thing is that i don't think "Jolene" is blaming anyone. Woman in the song is just expressing her sadness, insecurity and fascination for this other woman. She doesn't seem jealous at all, she says that she understands how anyone would want to be with Jolene. And for me she seems kind of attracted to her. She is in relationship with a man, but he is so unimportant we don't know anything about him, or why she loves him, or what makes him special to her, we don't even know his name. The only reason She chooses to stay with him is she does not think anyone else would want her, witch is heartbreaking to me. But while she cant be bothered to mention her man's name, she sings entire song about Jolene, she chooses to confide with her, she chooses to disclose to her her biggest fear of being insignificant and unattractive. She allows Jollene to see her most vulnerable, most honest and intimate side. And I am not the only one who thinks Jolene has lesbian subtekst and in my point of view this response is just missing the point.

Justyna (very cool spelling of that name, btw) thank you so much for taking the time to comment, and I hear you! This song was the result of a challenge by a fellow songwriter, and I'm not good with prompts when writing, so this was a creative challenge for me, and mostly meant to open up the conversation about all of the possibilities of who Jolene is. This is just one interpretation of an interpretation - not meant to suggest anything about Dolly's intent. Love that it's started conversations like this, and I agree with everything you said. It's a wonderful song that Dolly wrote. Thanks again for your thoughts!😊

What are the chords you play in this? I'm a beginner so I couldn't tell 😁😁😁 I really love this song!!

Hi Harley - glad you like the song! It's basically Am - F - G - Em - Am for the verse and F - G - Em - Am -F- G - F - G - Am for the chorus and F -- G - C - E (repeat) for the bridge. Thanks for wanting to play it!

The only thing Dolly had was her guitar playing and now you've stolen that too, Jolene! Lol
