Ok so I have silver bars and rounds all are 1 oz. That I collect and I have a coun collection. Plus gems and some jewelry that I have had made for me and family that I got when they pasted away. So if I move there when I retire. Would it be better to keep it all here in the states with family or could I take it there and if so how much would it cost me . If u had to guess I'd say I have probably 2 to 3000 dallors in gems and probably well alot more in silver and coins collection. Plus jewelry.
@guydent90462 ай бұрын
For me, my answer is of course to leave it if it's secure. Just because in the Philippines, and you moving around, what if you were robbed? But really, the answer is, there is no problem with traveling with those. The metal detector ( x-ray_ will pick them up . just put it in checked baggage and it will be fine. If you carry it on, then you're goign to have to put it on the belt when you go through security. If it looks odd, they're going to question you, and if it's all worth together over $10,000 value, you better have declared it. But, other wise, it is untraceable (no smell to dogs like cash they can smell) so you'll be just fine. If you're not trying to hole it just to sell in Singapore or something, and you trust your family/friends in the USA and if you plan on coming back ever, I'd leave it in their safe. But maybe if you want it for an emergency, take a few silver rounds with you. To me, it's just asking to be stolen, I hope that helps. Me? yes, I have those too. If I were to sell everything and have no place for my P.M., I'd either put it in my sister's safe, or I'd sell it and then buy it again (I know, the stupid transaction fee) or I'd take it with me, then I'd fly to Singapore (but you'll have to check all that weight in luggage) then put it in a Singapore bank (safety deposit box). In Singapore, you can buy physical gold/Silver (I won't buy paper gold/silver) and they actually hold your physical P.M. for you in their vault fully secured and insured. Look it up online, you don't even have to go there.
@LawrenceWeber-z5o Жыл бұрын
Leaving the Philippines is much worse than arriving especially if travelling back to the US. The security check right after immigration is not bad but then there is another one to enter the boarding error. There will meet some of the most ignorant and obstinate Filipinos. They say they are following TSA rules but they don't have a clue. If you have a bottle of water you just got IN the secure area of the airport, you have to dump it. They'll dig through your bag and spend minutes just looking at something as a USB charger. On last trip had 4 new sealed boxes of Polvoron which are a Philippines small sweet short bread, which they tried to tell me was a powder and not allowed (yeah it crumbles easily but is a baked good not a powder). Arguing with ignorant people who can keep you from boarding your flight which about to leave is useless so they confiscated it all.

On the plane you will be declare your goods. Last I flew just before Covid, it was a paper form to list my items. Customs was quick and easy in the airport at Manila or Cebu. Now I think they have gone digital and has a provision for a photo of your item/s, so I'm wondering if things have taken a turn for the serious. My first visit 1998 I was instantly impressed by the freedom and low bureaucracy of RP, but now with computerisation it's easier to micro manage people and it seems that's where the RP govt is quickly evolving. In 1998 I lived there with more freedom than I ever thought existed, and loved my time there though there were some problems from little rule of law. Alas, I prefer the older version of the RP.

The problem I have with the Philippines is that they are a lot like the Japanese in that they do not allow foreigners to become citizens. At the same time, America allows Filipinos to become naturalized after a certain number of years. The country is very racist in that regard. America allows Filipinos to own firearms. America allows Filipinos to obtain an Amateur Radio License. The Philippines makes foreigners take a written test, the results of which are not shown to the foreigner, therefore foreigners are failed at will. The Philippines wants the money of the foreigner, but not the foreigner. My Filipino partner constantly reminds me that "blood is thicker than water." Very racist.

I understand media on USB devices are illegal, unless they are full disk copies, but entering the Philippines they don't understand or recognise that. If u have a laptop it is subject to search. We have phone media (music, movies and images) which was not searched. Cloud storage may work, or home server. Bringing pirated disks from the Philippines is illegal, but we didn't know that and it was not checked. These days 3 letter agencies already know exactly what is on your devices long before u travel, and what your interests are, but they are mostly concerned with child exploitation, drug activities and other threats, not with criminalising people in compliance to media industry demands just for taking a vacation.

no problems with gold / silver bullion. however there is not many esay ways to exchange it. and what if it's stolen? it's just not safe. If you have more than $10,000 in value you should declare it, but dogs cannot smell gold/silver, and as long as it is in checked luggage that's fine. it will show on an x0ray as ust some metal. but if you have a lot and go through security and they see it in your bags, they may question you and ask for proof that you bought it.

Say you have two laptops, some camera gear, iPad, iPhone, Apple Watch, all of which is over 10k when new, but is now rather used. Are you going to taxed for all of this? If so how much? Is it going to go off of the new value, or the current used value?
