I have had an L7 for two weeks now and totally agree with everything said. Over the years I have owned 5 Gibson Les Pauls and never really bonded with them but this guitar is absolutely astonishing. The neck of this guitar is totally addictive, I wish Gibson would pay as much attention to the necks. The guitar was set up really well straight out of the box. I cannot deny that I would prefer Gibson on the headstock but I imagine I would have to go custom shop territory to get a Gibson that plays as well as this........come on Gibson, these guys are kicking your arse!
@narq50992 жыл бұрын
And pray tell, where in the world were you able to find a Sire *anything* right now?!! I bought an M7 a couple of months ago, and that was literally the very last guitar or bass I think they had in stock.
@golfhound2 жыл бұрын
Gibson is resting on their laurels. The over inflated price you have to pay for a Gibson for what you get is outrageous. $2500 for the lowest end Gibson Les Paul. A custom made Fender Strat with your choice pickups is less than that. And $2500 gets one one hell of a Fender. The highest priced Epiphone LP is the Alex Lifeson model which has a contoured body and Floyd Rose bridge, plus the best of everything else. A $2500 PRS will blow Gibson away. And if you start comparing $5k Gibsons to $5k PRS, there is no comparison. I think one pays way too much for the Gibson label.

Probably a common story here... I played when I was young, and then only rarely picked up a guitar as the kids were growing up. Kids played too but have moved out, and no more guitars in the house. As I am getting closer to retirement I have the itch to play again and looking for something cool and fun to play. This just might be the ticket. Thanks for the review.

Great informative series. In the past I was a guitar snob and if the headstock didn't have Fender or Gibson on it I was not for me. In recent years due to manufacturing processes and advance technology plus the commitment of guitar makers to produce excellent playing and sounding guitars at affordable prices has changed the market. Brands like Sire, Eastwood, Fano, and guitars coming from Thoman in Germany allow players to enjoy quality guitars that are affordable. I now own many guitars from these companies as well as my Fenders and Gibsons and I feel the playing field is pretty level these days. I think a Sire is in my immediate future.

I feel like coil splitting is something they just throw in all these newer guitars to throw additional functions at you. I have an esp Les Paul style guitar with coil splits and never used them. I bought that style for the humbucker sound. I’m sure some people like to use the coil split but I feel like if you buy a guitar with humbuckers, that’s basically what you’re going to use. Most people buy a guitar with single coils for the true sound.
@raytorvalds36992 жыл бұрын
I have an Agile LP type guitar with coil splits and I had more humbucker guitars with coil splits. I rarely use it either. A lot of humbuckers don't sound that good when split/tapped either (ime). So there is that too. Another reason to own multiple guitars ;)
@beverlymarsh2332 жыл бұрын
Only guitar I ever used the split on is the duo sonic. Idk why just seems to make sense on that guitar.
@TheSeanCreagh2 жыл бұрын
I would agree with that to some extent. I have coil splits on a Gibson Les Paul and never use them; it also has an in and out phase switch, which I don't use either. Dean Zelinsky's SideKicks are actually pretty good though. By no means are they my favorite pickup, but it's a sound I'm glad I have in my arsenal, you know?
@MaxSoininen2 жыл бұрын
For me the only reason to coilsplit is if you only have one guitar and you have some pedals that sounds bad with the humbuckers. Still if i could only have one guitar i would get an HSS or HSH.

Great review (thanks) I purchased this as an 'every day noodler' but have found it's now my 'go to' guitar...The L7 looks amazing, the satin neck is probably the best I've played (including on much more expensive guitars) and it just feels right. The Goldtop finish is more metallic sparkle than traditional but personally I love it and it's a modern LP style so it fits. It has a really well-balanced overall feel and you can tell the quality just by holding it. Just required minor tuning out of the box. The hardware I can't fault, the locking tuners work as they should, bone nut, the bridge and tailpiece are I believe Gotoh but marketed as Sire (I may be mistaken) but they are top notch nonetheless. Rolled medium jumbo frets are lovely. Cons: Just small areas on the neck finish where there are stain splatters from the neck on the binding but I'm hopeful this may be removed with some delicate cleaning. This is common from other reviews I've read so maybe something to expect. The overall look and playability more than made up for it and although it is capable of beautiful delicate sounds it can properly rock out, I've shoved it through my favourite big muff and it screams like a banshee...love it. Overall, this guitar plays like a dream and apart from minor blemishes I can't fault it.
@joehahn88172 жыл бұрын
Those frets do look nice!!! For $599 you'd have a hard time beating it!!! I think I still like the Epiphones better. Especially the '59 Les Paul with Gibson BurstBuckers.💕♥️ In all fairness, the '59 costs about $200 more but I totally love mine!!! The L7 would almost certainly be my second choice for this type of guitar. Even if the horn is too pointy and the headstock looks like a boat paddle. I guess you've got to mind those copyright laws...😁😁😁 The quality of affordable, intermediate level guitars these days is mind blowing!!! The fret work alone on this one should be enough to panic cork sniffers everywhere!!!

I just bought one from Sweetwater The fretboard was completely dirty took a while to clean it, put new lighter strings on lowered the action,lubed the nut and saddles , that's it , beautiful playing guitar. Sounds great with no amp,it just sings,my least expensive and my best playing and sounding guitar, Not that my other ones are bad,this just is a little better ,at least for my hands and fingers. My Schecter Banshee Floyd Rose Sustaniac is equal but twice as much money,I know I know not the same style of guitar but I was talking quality , feel and components. I highly recommend these, I took my Pickguard off, the transparent blue is so beautiful I wanted to show more of it off. I like the less hotter pickups because you can play beautiful crystal clear clean If you want and you can add pedals to make it smoke as well. I didn't mind doing a little extra to it I only paid $641 What do you expect? I got a "bunch" more than what I expected actually, Oh and I like the headstock very classy not cheezy,I think better than a Gibson, looks much stronger as well. I wish I would have found this sooner, I would'nt have had to spend so many thousands on other guitars that I probably won't play much anymore ha ha

Yes, it's nothing like a Gibson tone - Phil McKnight was just saying don't be afraid to try really good pickups in a cheap guitar. Sounded good. Looked good. Are guitars about looks or sound ? you have to decide. No one can see the guitar when listening to an album or CD or when streaming . Surely it is about the music ? These guitars in the 600 to 1000 dollar range can sound just great, for me its all about the pickups. These sound fine and anyway once you roll the vol up or down and pump thru your pedal chain and into possibly anyone of a thousand amps, then who knows what you are playing. For me these guitars cut the mustard unless you are a guitar snob who just has to be seen with a specific brand or personally cant play unless you have a '59 Burst in your rack. If one of the most revered guitarists can have a career, with their No1 as a Squier then that tells me everything about the snake oil in the industry. Its all about the playability and the sound and there is rarely any discernible sound difference between 10,000 dollar re-issues and 1,000 dollar modern issues. It is all about who is playing it , not what guitar is being played most of the time. Lets get real, thanks Darren for another great review.

Just one slight cosmetic issue with a small black dot on the body just under the neck. Sustain is great. This guitar is worth much more than I paid for it. Great gigging guitar compared to my Studios.

This series is incredible. Just note, as you play anything with a satin finish I will start to go from satin to glossy… not a full buffed and polished “I can see myself” gloss, but definitely not satin anymore.

2nd one is a winner...first one from SW was a lemon...bridge all the way down and still almost 2mm action at 12th fret. Bridge was frozen in place. Both posts were locked up tight and only budged after a huge amount of force. Bridge was also stuck on the posts...almost the brige was pressed onto them. Several high frets and a whole step bend at 17th fret on high e completely choked out and several sharp fret ends. Very disappointed. 2n Indonesia guitar with qc issues for me. SW shipped a new one in less than 24 hrs. Its awesome and setup great right out of the box.

I am not sure if you've made any videos on this particular guitar but a glary especially their Telecaster would make for a nice video

It’s a nice guitar and I almost bought one but when you add charges for a bone nut, peek and bridge setup from Sweetwater your price goes from 599 to 1259. At that point I have y to I say do I want an inexpensive guitar that now costs 1259 or for a couple hundred more just buy a Les Paul Tribute and get the name as well which undoubtedly will keep its value better. Again just my thoughts! What do you guys think?

I have been waiting ever since you said you were getting to the other sire guitars. I wanted a review on the l7 cause that is the one I wanted to buy

Love the review…and the guitar! I would really like to see you do a review if Prestige Guitars out of Vancouver, especially their Heritage Elite or Standard models (both have the contoured heal joint). Thanks!

I was gonna buy a sire and then I heard them head to head against a fender (S7) and I gotta say, I’m not a fan of their pickups. The rest of the guitar is a great value and top notch, but I’m glad I bought a fender elite HSS instead. If I come across 1 at the right price on the used market I definitely would pick one up and swap pickups.

Waiting for Sweetwater to order a... L7 S7 T7 I already have one of the best double cut semi hollows. That would be my Shecter Corsair Limited Edition, which plays nicer than any 335 type I've ever played. May I suggest Sire/Sweetwater make a Hard Case or bullet proof Gig Bag available. Did you ask what else "could I want Darrell? Well... Sire built SG V and 7 strings, please. 27" scale

I was in andertons the other day and tried a Larry sire. It sounded great. Gret work was nice but on 2 of them the binding and paint work was not very good and had bleed marks and glue showing

I always enjoy your reviews. I'd like to hear you review the Tagima T-635 and compare it to strats in the same price range.

Where did you purchase this L7 guitar Darrell? Just did an internet search and couldn't find any available for sale in Canada. BTW, when you suggested that the price was $600 bucks, that would have been in the USA in American currency. List price in Canada would be closer to $1,000 bucks Can.
