Is this really the end game machine? Looks like it to be fair. I am currently on the fence of getting a BDB but after studying the Meraki one, I mean its a no brainer at this point. Thoughts?
@CJ_1995_6 күн бұрын
The end game machine is personal preference and budget of course. However, a lot of people swear by the Decent espresso machine as the "End game" machine.
@TomsCoffeeCorner6 күн бұрын
Well, I mean the Meraki includes a grinder, which the BDB doesn't. So it kind of depends on whether or not you already have a decent grinder. Honestly for me, I'd go with the BDB because it's been tried and true, with lots of forum entries on it at this point. Some people complain about Breville service, but I haven't had to deal with it yet, myself. Coffee-wise they both do an excellent job at espresso and milk foam.
@fuzziestlumpkin6 күн бұрын
I don't think any machine with an integrated grinder should be called "endgame". I use an integrated grinder every day and enjoy it by the way. It also lacks the things like flow control that you would really want if you are at that level. The term isn't very good though to be honest... As the comment above says, your "endgame" machine should be the one you're happy to use every day.

The current state of expresso machines is that anything with modern user interface has commercial grade plastic internals which will fail in two years and machines which have commercial grade metal internals up to and including $3000 machines have really primitive IU with a tiny one line display and set-up requiring non-intuitive pushing of two buttons to set all the parameters. In 2022 I bought a $530 GE Cafe Bellissimo which is made for GE by Breville with features of $1000 Breville but with nice UI that runs as an iPhone / iPad app instead of touch panel on the unit. It started leaking after 18 months and died after 2-1/2 years. It is unrepairable - no repair parts or support after one year during which if it fails they just send you a new machine. The Profitec Move $1995 is a nice commercial grade dual boiler fast startup machine with an auto timer but isn’t shipping until next year. Also on my short list is the Accasio Duo at around the same price point but it requires 20A circuit.

Any guess if this can be modded for pressure profiling? I’m curious because it’s a rotary pump and the pre infusion give a 3 or 4 bar option, as if the pressure can be finely adjusted.
@TomsCoffeeCorner6 күн бұрын
You can set a pressure and time duration - I just tried it at 4 bar and 10 seconds, and it does work. But for further profiling, I do not think there is an option yet.

Would have loved to see more of the teardown, including the pump, lines, circuit boards. Are the pressurized heated water pipes corrugated metal pipes or plastic? Looked plastic in that steam wand. And what’s your opinion on the overall build quality? I am disappointed with the lack of organization of the internal wires, cheap plastics everywhere. I had better expectations.

@TomsCoffeeCorner6 күн бұрын
That's true, and Rancilio has awesome heritage. But, if you're doing milk drinks, it sucks to switch between espresso and steam temperatures because it takes a while and uses a lot of water to cool back down. That's why people pay extra for dual boilers.

This company manufactured a product with this much plastic for $1500 USD. Remember, guys, these fellas will come into the market and give you something like this and vanish without a trace the next moment. To me, this is rubbish at the price point. Go with established brands. If you have any issues, you will have a service centre or parts available to fix them. The very fact that they have cut corners on little fittings by using plastic instead of steel or aluminium goes to show how much they want to take in as profits instead of giving customers something premium for what they pay for.
@ZainAmjad5 күн бұрын
Totally disagree. If they were that sort of company they wouldn't have been sending out review units to coffee enthusiasts, doing collabs with the likes of Timemore, etc. Just this week, they have partnered with Origin Coffee in the UK so they support the Coffee Sense feature (nfc config). That sort of commitment isn't cutting corners.
