I want to thank you Tom for this comparison review. I was just about to pull the trigger on a Oracle Jet and then I saw this review. That made me pause, and I have since watched many other reviews on both products (and others) and have come back to this one. I have decided that I will wait until the Ninja Luxe ES701 comes out and purchase that. I just hope that Ninja includes the hot water jet feature that the European versions have. But as for versatility, the ability to make cold milk foam for your cold coffee drinks, and the ability to fit a travel mug under the porta filter and brew up to 18 oz. of brewed coffee into it, make this a much better fit for me. Ninja's design and development team is truly second to none. I have many Ninja appliances in my kitchen and they all do their jobs extremely well. I expect this to be no different. And for the price, I could buy 4 of the Ninjas to one Oracle Jet. I could use 1 and put the other 3 in the closet to replace as they wear out. But I think instead I'll just buy 1 and wait for it to wear out. Because who knows, the next iteration of this amazing machine at some point may just offer that "automatic marshmallow dispenser" for your hot cocoa that you mentioned in another review. 😋 Thanks for all you do for the coffee community. 🙂👍👌

My wife and I have had the Oracle Jet for about a month (graduation gift for her). She does milk drinks exclusively and is not interested in "the hobby"; and the Oracle has suited us both very well. She can make her lattes without any technical knowledge, and the custom drinks are great. She has a 'work latte' that steams the milk a little hotter so it's ready when she gets to work, and then the normal one so she can drink right away at home (she's very particular about temp). When I want to play I pull out the tamping fan and do what ever puck prep I want, then just pop it back on and it's ready for her again.

@Devon-Decor2 ай бұрын
It’s a clear winner in your house because you don’t own a sage. I had both but have just the jet now, you can’t make a better espresso with a 54mm group head compared to that of a 58mm group you just can’t. Although luxe is a great price and sage is a bit too expensive in my eyes it’s still a far greater machine for obvious reasons
@RayOnTheRun2 ай бұрын
@@Devon-Decor the fact that you pointed out a 4mm discrepancy as an advantage is exactly my point. The comparison is like my Tesla Model S Plaid to an Aston Martin DB12 Volante. 400% more in cost for the same car segment but targeted to a tiny consumer base. But I love the discussion and comparisons. Especially since you've tried them both!
@TomsCoffeeCorner2 ай бұрын
The Oracle Jet is certainly more refined, but I do not think better espresso is made with a 58mm over 54mm. I used to work at a cafe that used Dalle Corte machines with a 54mm portafilter. La Spaziale uses 53mm. I actually prefer smaller PFs, because they are in my opinion easier to work with.

Having had both machines i feel like they actually have wildly different target groups. The ninja really is the machine you get and completely forget about. You dont need anyone to have any idea how espresso works to get nice drinkable drinks out of it. Its really the machine to give you better drink quality then a superautomatic without any skills. However you cant really go any further with the machine because of accessory and setup limitations and the machine is clearly not made to tinker with it. Tha hardware feels solid and well balanced to be used in its set limits but doesnt really provide the capabilities to go beyond that. The Oracle jet (and the sage lineup as a whole) on the other hand gives you a very capable machine all around in a smart all in one footprint and some assistance to get you going. You will get to a similar point as the ninja does with the barista guidance but the real fun begins when you start playing with it more. Adjusting the doses, getting new accessories, learning steaming with an easy to use steam wand with temperature sensors etc. With that and the technically much more capable hardware you will be able to further improve the shots and really get to know a lot about espresso making and your preferences if you want to while not losing the ease of use (auto tamping, saving profiles, auto milq) for the rest of the household. Once setup the oracle jet probably is easier and cleaner to operate for the average user but both machines are close. My overall impression: The Ninja is for the type of people that want to set it and forget it. Great first babystep for superautomatic user or people who really just want better coffee without much if any extra work. The Oracle jet is for people who want to play with the machine and its extra capabilities but want a smart all in one package that still delivers ease of use if you dont feel like playing with it or have other people who need to use the machine as well.
@bigbadboogie68422 ай бұрын
Ninja can also adjust dose, grind size, shot size. So I don't follow what you mean saying you cant go any further. It also has an exact dosing system due to the scale.

I respectfully disagree, the Oracle Jet is the somewhat automatic version of their other machines, if you wanted a good machine for manual mode just get a dual boiler, they pretty much cost the same (with the dual boiler being slightly cheaper actually). The way this machine works and is marketed as is targeted for the same audience as the Ninja Luxe Cafe, newbies or people who do not want much effort to get a drinkable espresso beverage.

You actually can do Americanos on the US version despite the missing hot water spout. Just empty the portafilter after doing an espresso, switch the drink over to a coffee selection, select the OZ size selector, then run. It takes much longer of course because of the pre-infusion pause it does after about 5-8 seconds of hot water, then continues with more hot water. Not ideal by any means, compared to machines with a dedicated hot water spout, but it can be done.

Not really in the market just now, but if I were (and given the money) I'd probably go for the #Oracle for the build and the standard PF. The tall-cup possibility on the Ninja would make me think about it for a while, though - and you can buy a lot of coffee for the difference in price. BTW, re the naked steam wand on the Ninja, the people at a coffee hole I frequent when cycling plunge theirs into a pitcher of water as soon as they finish steaming, then come back and wipe it clean once the drink is served. The wand doesn't cake up and the water cools it immediately.

Nice video, I did notice that you used expresso scales on the Oracle, is this because you find the volumetric repeatability of the Sage to be very poor. Turbine flow meters should be very accurate but I have a new machine and found it to be terrible. The variability of the shot quantity is more than 10% at 95% confidence level. This makes accurate dialling in almost impossible. Would welcome your comments on this, since I think it is a fundamental design problem with the Sage machines.
@TomsCoffeeCorner26 күн бұрын
The variability of the volumetric flow meters is really poor on ALL machines, not just Sage. They simply don't work well. So far, the best I've seen is on the Ninja, that comes close at least. Cheers!
@jjmbe21 күн бұрын
@@TomsCoffeeCorner Thanks Tom for your response as a retired engineer I just cannot understand why the volumetric flow is so poor. Cheap plastic turbine flow meters are generally speced to give repeatability of 0.1% of FS which should mean a very accurate output, allowing for some variability in water retention in the coffee puck I would have thought the shot should be within 1 or at the very most 2 grms every time. I have had shots from 50grms and down to 25grms. How can this be considered an automatic coffee machine.
@kitcraft95162 ай бұрын
Edit: How did I miss it; you already have a video. Watching now! Wait, wait, wait, why are we talking about either of these rather than that scale? I found your short after seeing this video and am amused by the people who don't like it. As someone who has had channeling glitch my touch screen scales more than once this intrigues me, quite a bit. Full video in the future? Anyway, I'd take the Ninja based on value alone. Though I'd rather just flip a switch to start extraction and flip it again to stop it. I am the same way with radios. I like analog and tubes not so much solid state and menus but that is a different story. Regardless, I enjoyed the video as always so thank you for comparing these two.
@petrarsenjev90792 ай бұрын
Many thanks for a very helpful video. The funnel on Ninja will be solved, that's a small thing. I'm a little worried about the build quality and longevity of both coffee makers. With the same long warranty, I wouldn't be too surprised if the Oracle Jet ends up going even earlier than the Ninja, and that would be really unfortunate. For that premium price, I would expect premium performance (which is lacking in some moments) and at least a 5-year warranty, otherwise it's better to pay 500 EUR for a Ninja or a cheaper Breville/Sage. An extra surcharge of 1500 EUR just for the design is already too much.

The only way to properly gauge durability is time. Literally waiting to see how many make it past 3-4 years and how easy it is to repair. Personally tempted but durability is an concern. Like this 2:13 oof. Also wouldn't use all of it's features. It's nice to make ice coffee as a party trick or drip coffee if you have a dozen guests over. But ice coffee for me would barely be used and James Hoffmann said that even economically $30 drip coffee tastes better than drip from Ninja. The ninja seems to be a good choice for an office. Gives flexibility to the kind of coffee employees want while being "affordable" for $500. Especially compared to other coffee maker junk the office has bought for $1,000 (those big coffee pad machines). It'd also be the ultimate test of durability lol.

I had the ninja for a week or so but could not stand the coffee it produced (just me likely). Bought the oracle jet after and it has been amazing and consistent.
@PastorJury2 ай бұрын
#Luxecafe would be my choice of the two machines. At that price, you can buy a lot more of your favorite coffee with the savings. As far as build quality, I've had good experiences with Ninja products in the past, and I'm sure this would be a similar experience.

I’m a beginner and have always been drinking instant coffee made with a microwave and milk. I was considering purchasing an expensive Sage machine during Black Friday because of its powerful milk frothing capabilities and ability to froth plant-based milk. Then I came across your video, and now the Ninja machine is already in my home. Thank you for your video-it saved my wallet! Meanwhile, I’m wondering how I should operate if I need caffeinated coffee for breakfast and decaf coffee for lunch.

You could buy some decaf pre-ground coffee and put it in there: amzn.to/3ZgNXmU (affiliate link)

Tom, why do you always pack your two shots twice when the manual says to do it only once and to do a quad shot twice? You have not addressed that.

I would go for the ninja, but honestly the cheaper price is worth nothing if the funnel gets dropped and breaks. I really don't understand why they didn't do that in stainless steel. Otherwise, I would buy the ninja, but I'm now considering less expensive Breville machines that I think will last.

The inconsistent milk auto steaming on the Oracle Jet is really pushing me to spend much less on a Ninja Luxe instead. I'm just waiting to see if they ever release that 701 / Pro model with the built in tamper in the US (I know, it isn't even released in Europe).

Tom, I wonder if you have got an Oracle with a bum steam system… …it seems odd that automatic steaming would be less good on this Oracle than Breville’s other cheaper and/or older machines. Something as simple as not perfectly shaped hole(s) in the wand’s tip, to who knows. Something that doesn’t affect manual steaming. A minor problem with the holes, for example, could affect the “aim” of the steam jets in automatic mode, preventing the vortex from forming and properly breaking down the large bubbles. Not seeing a vortex while manually steaming, you would probably automatically adjust your angle to get it, without even being conscious of it.
@TomsCoffeeCorner2 ай бұрын
@@coreycannon4511 I don’t know. It works great for manual mode. I think that the steam wand just sits too deep in the pitcher for auto steaming.
@prinzatagoАй бұрын
I'm surprised Oracle Jet's automatic steaming did a worse job than the Ninja, given that it's an improved design from the previous Oracle (and even the Touch Impress that you praised a lot before).
@TomsCoffeeCornerАй бұрын
It's simply a much different design than the previous Oracle, as this one now has 1 thermojet for heating water and steam. The older models had 2 boilers. I don't know...the auto steaming worked better for some other testers, but not for me.

I would say that on point 1 you are talking about Availability, not accessibility. Accessibility would be more like how the user is able to get in and around the various parts, the insides, cleaning between things. Thanks for the review!

Availability would have been the word, you’re right.

Can't get the Ninja here in Norway. But now I have decided to not go for these machines. I'd rather go for a simpler, more basic machine, a separate grinder, and learn to do things manually. Saves a lot of money and is much more fun.
@VistasdelMar20082 ай бұрын
I use the Delonghi Dedica for that reason. For the price you can buy the machine, all the addition barista elements, bottomless portafilter, leveling, wdt, a silicone place mat, and portafilter top screen, and hand grinder for half the price of the Ninja. On rush days you can go with the standard portafilter, but you can produce a much better shot going barista style.

@VistasdelMar2008 Exactly what I was thinking. I just ordered the 885, an Opus and a bottomlessportafilter. Hope you are happy with it. Where did you get other acessories?

@@ronnyskaar3737 I bought everything through Amazon, but paid attention to a lot of YT videos to determine which ones to buy. Not all puck screens are alike, for example. For the Delonghi I settled on a fantastic one - The Notsek, rather than the cheaper and useless Neouza.
