I have been using a Gaggiuino for 6 months, and it has become my main machine, due to ease of use, reliability, and tasty shots. I also own a Bezzerra Strega, but it hardly get used now after the Gaggiuino. This machine highlights how computerization has the potential to transform the design of the espresso machine, which I would argue has mostly seen incremental improvements since the 1970s.

I’ve got a Gagguino and love it - I will say it’s not very user friendly to build and there’s a lot more room for growth in that department. The people on the discord are helpful but I’ve found I’m constantly being told off for being in the wrong group for the wrong question- and the groups aren’t actually well labelled at all. But, I really do get the best steamed milked and most flavourful espresso I’ve ever had and the fact there are people out there just trying to help us have better coffee- pretty awesome. It’s clear they could make this into a massive business, and part of me hopes they do.

As a recovered linux nerd, remember that the coffee machine is quite possibly the only thing in their lives that is truly 'theirs'; your learning about it is, from their personal economy, theft. So when you want to get involved in a hyperprotective community, just remember that not everyone believes that sharing works the same ways. Some people have so very little, they defend almost nothing with all their might. Sorry you experienced this

Amazing to see a video on the new updates! I have one too. I found the machine for around 200€ (maybe 210 or 220) on ebay, bought the stuff from AliExpress for around 100-150 I'd guess and have a killer machine now for such an amazing prize (predictive scales but not the tank meter installed). It's fun to see that back then when I saw your video about it I thaught "oh having this one day would be cool". One important note that Lance maybe didnt make exactly clear. If you have the older Blackpill board you can still upgrade to the new version of the software, you just need the new display and that's it. (You will have some minimal limitations, like not being able to make profiles with near infinite stages, but it's completely usable and not needed for most people).
@LanceHedrickАй бұрын
Correct. But there are limitations for sure
@darkknight1877Ай бұрын
Doesn't the 4.3 basically need to come from one of their two approved suppliers? Given the added costs for any order from peak coffee I opted to have both. Worst case I've got the older board that can sit around as a hot spare in the event of a failure.
@vbence12Ай бұрын
@@darkknight1877 yeah that's a valid point. For me I did the "Lego" build so I would have had to redo the wiring harness and also I wanted to save some cost. But if I started from scratch, for sure with the new release I would just go with the official PCB. (Also as a side note, if you are in the eu. I got my display from diyEFI, with all the BS charges that peakcoffe has the end cost is the same but since it's shipped from UK vs china it gets here faster. Also they handle the tax side, which if I remember correctly peakcoffee doesn't do).

And I thought that it could be an excellent place to contribute as a developer. But now they have closed the source code and you literally must buy a license (the screen module available only from two suppliers) to use this mod. Maybe it will bring them some short-term money, but my bet is that geek modification without community will die.

The answer to this is highly subjective of course, but I feel it is easy to jump right into the tech stuff without discussing the main goal of this mod. I'd like to have more info on the before and after. Cheers!
@gbergevinАй бұрын
Stock GCP is very inconsistent, and runs full blast shots to whatever your OPV pressure is. Gaggiuino adds full temp control and flow/pressure profiling, so you can fully control how the shot runs and it can do so repeatably. So, can stock GCP make great espresso? Yes, with lots of effort, and not consistently. While of course you still need to dial in, Gaggiuino’s level of control gives you tons of options and above all consistency and repeatability.
@ospirittАй бұрын

This reminds me of the Hoffmann video on the ZPM machine and John Buckman taking it over and transforming it into the Decent DE1. In the interview he says that there was no way to make the ZPM out of the cheaper, off-the-shelf materials that they wanted to use and it was going to need all kinds of high quality, specialized parts. But here we have the most basic, mass produced machine using a few extra sensors and some clever coding to have it do almost the same as the DE1. I just wonder what the story is there: Whether it was Buckman just wanted to make a more expensive machine, or if it was something else.

I´d say it´s easier to do on the DF and the stronger Motor pushs me further in the direction of it. On the other hand the 064s has vertically mounted burrs and no ionizer, which can be used to catch fines. I primarily want to use it as filter first grinder. Nethertheless it´ll also be used for espresso. Already a great thanks for all responses!

Excellent!! I am wondering if a machine like that is capable of producing equally great shots as a lever like the Flair 58 or The Robot or La Pavoni? Considering is almost equal the budget (in the case of LP cheaper).

Lance, does this improve the consistency and reliability of the machine from shot to shot? Using my GCP, I ran into the issue of making two steamed milk drinks back to back. Both with the timing of the shot and the capability of steaming the milk. Will this mod improve that? And would this make the machine more capable of serving more drinks in an hour?

Shot to shot consistency is one of the main purposes/goals of the Gaggiuino mod!

Hi Lance, I have a question. I since I’m travelling a lot I was always looking for an option to bring some coffee beans from place I went and make a good espresso at home. But since every bean is different it comes down to the grind settings and then brew temperature and all the settings within the machine. I was wondering if the Gagguino would be an option to optimise this? Is there a platform with brewing profiles for several beans which the machine can adapt to instantly without needing trying out too many shots and loosing all the beans? Like bringing beans back home from travel, set the grinder right and search for the brew profile. And that should give me a delicious espresso right away. Thanks a lot.
