It's like the Horizon Zero Dawn upgrade it's just textures. I bought the regular disc version and saved over 200 dollars. The cost of a disc drive sent the pro over 800 Dollars and I don't think it's worth it. PS4 pro was worth the upgrade going from 1080p to 4k but this gen it isn't worth the extra cost.

Heard some open world games play quite a bit worse on the pro because they upgraded the GPU without upgrading the CPU and it’s using a slower reading SSD than the base ps5. Do not buy this thing. Get a base ps5 and wait for ps6.

The difference is UNREAL when is not on youtube video! I tested Last Of Us, God of War and few others with Pro mode and it's top! I always find my PS5 fat struggling with the FPS and i cannot even imagine to play Quality mode on the regular..unplayable. But a lot of people just don't need the Pro and they don't care much for fps so i get them too. If you have nice tv with vrr, hdr etc it's worth it.

Very important question, do you own a 4k OLED TV, preferrable with 120Hz (or something with comparable quality, not trying to be a snob)? If not then almost certainly you should go for the base model. They'll both look great on anything, but unless you have a screen capable of showing the improved graphics, I can't imagine it's worth the price hike.

I think it's kinda weird how much they focused on the tiny improvements in visuals in all the promotion. The increase in average framerate while keeping the fidelity of the original is probably the biggest selling point of the pro. Still not really worth this big of a price spike, but it makes it look better than saying "if you squint you can see fewer jaggies". I am personally considering a pro, but I am in the small minority of people without a ps5 already, but who want one, and who own a 4k OLED 120hz television to actually be able to see the difference. Even then though I'm having trouble justifying it. Might just try to do a little gig work to make up the difference in price to not feel bad about it. If not, I'll just go for a discounted slim for black friday.

CMOS helps do things like keep the time correct when the console is unplugged. You very likely aren't going to need to bother with it, but if it does die, you are gonna be very glad they made it easy to reach as that makes replacing it very easy (and it's just a button cell so they are really cheap)

Even if you dont have the perfect monitor or tv to take advantage of every peice of tech the ps5 and ps5 pro offers it is still an upgrade from your current console. You dont need oled qled vrr whatever. As long as you have hdmi 2.1 its an upgrade from your ps4, ps4 pro and ps5. If you can take advantage of all of it thats awesome. I recommend atleast 120hz 4k but it has a 1440p option also. I love it. Screw the disk drive. I havent owned a disk drive on my pc or my console in years and i still have all my games from ps4 up until now. In fact i get them cheaper alot of times because of discounts in the ps store. Go digital. Buy that ps5 pro if you really want it. Make yourself or someone happy

If I were to get one, it'd be for the increased framerate while maintaining quality. I think the emphasis on 'improved visuals' was a weird choice for them to go with in the first place. During the scalping era when ps5’s were going for $1k-1.5k. Due to the limited availability for such a long time. Before anyone could really get one Sony had already announced they were releasing the Ps5 pro in like 2-3 years alongside a slim version. Then i made my mind up not to buy a normal ps5. My friend bought a normal ps5 brand new for like $650 when they went back down to RRP and were available everywhere. For an extra $100 im getting something with double the memory storage and about 25-60% faster, and can reach 120hz. Thats when a ps5 pro is worth it. For a lot of people who have ps5s now you just didnt wait out and list for the news. So far about 11 games have been ps5 releases. This entire time it’s not worth getting a ps5. However in about 12 months from now gta6 is being released. Thats when its worth it

I bought one Today. Its definitely a noticeable difference with the visuals and smoothness even on the main screen but I agree with most people that the price is steep as hell for a console without a disc drive. Also its boxed so poorly compared to the original. I was a bit disappointed but hey I was warned. At least my games will be a bit prettier.

I definitely won't be buying the PlayStation 5 Pro. I never intended to. Even though my PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Switch OLED were all stolen last week. I bought another Xbox Series X last Friday, and I bought me a PlayStation 5 Slim tonight. I'm going to get me another Switch OLED next pay or maybe early on next month but I promised myself I was not going to buy any mid-gen refresh consoles this console generation. Most developers are not even making use of the power of the base model PlayStation 5 or Xbox so I don't feel that a mid-gen refresh was necessary.

well i wanted a 2nd ps5 anyway so the Pro is newer it make sense not getting a OLED 120HZ tv none of the games i play is patched for that anyway. Im only playing games i normally play to see the visual enhancements

If you don't have a 4k OLED I have a feeling it's going to be difficult to see too many visual enhancements. Games will still run at a high framerate for sure though, so no matter what they'll still feel better to play.

Do you have a high end PC already? Do you own a 4k OLED TV? I think those questions seem like they can help guide things a bit. If you already have a 4090 or something, then you probably wouldn't be playing on the PS5 constantly, but if you don't, the pro offers an experience closer to PC levels of quality/FPS. If you don't have a nice enough TV, I'm pretty sure you wouldn't notice much of an upgrade other than things running a bit more smoothly, so I would probably avoid the pro without a nice TV. Other than those 2 factors, I think it's really a matter of how much you are willing to spend and what you want to spend it on. If you have plenty of cash, go for the pro and enjoy it. If not, or if you'd rather spend that cash on games, wait for a black friday sale in a week and snag a slim on the cheap and load up on games.

I bought a ps5 when I got those inaction emails and when I got it I did touch it since that’s when my son was born so it’s still in boxes sealed so I could just sell it and buy the pro. But I’m hoping for them to come out with a collection series of some new games. Good review. Would be down to play the last of us 2 again with better detail.

Got the LG oled 65ich before the base ps5 . Runs perfectly together. Slap the setting to quality and still 4k60 . Want more fps ? Plug her into a old 1080p or 1440p . Always go pc for eye candy tho . The current line up of game still don't even fully push the base anyway 😂 not like ps4 days where some did reach the machines limit
