I will definately do that. I wanted to get the budget radios out of the way first. What's funny is I was using my 9Gx as the base unit for the repeater. Normally the H8 has me about 5 miles out for a good "average" signal, but this 9Gx pushed me out to 8! Everything I tested sounded awesome at 5 miles and it didn't show anything different between them... I guess I will have to get another top notch radio to use as a base!

I’m sure some of those federal channels are digital and encrypted. The “wireless microphone” frequencies are for wireless stage mics that you might see singers/mc’s/speakers of the house, etc. using.

Have a 916 being delivered this week. I researched the wouxun handhelds, and I like this one best. Other videos say the same thing, audio on 916 is the best. Loaded with extra channels. Will TX and RX the same as other Wouxuns. Not difficult to program or use.

I have this radio and the px and I have to say, I've been really pleased. If I had to chose one, since I'm ham licensed I'd go with the px and open the gmrs freq with chirp. But, if you are gmrs only, the gx is a solid solid radio. I have talked to a repeater in our area at 38 miles. It had some static etc but it held the repeater and everyone was able to understand me fine.

@@FirstUnitedTactical Thought I posted this reply yesterday but don't see it.. go figure. From the BSR site: NEW Features (Compared to the UV9G PRO) • 3 New Dark Color Screen Modes (Day 1, Day 2 & Covert) • New Priority Channel Quick-Jump Feature (for instant Emergency or Favorite Channel use) • Extended 1.25m “220 HAM Band” RX Range (down to 219 MHz) • Roger Beep (on all freqs. except the repeater inputs) • Bright Flashlight (new LED Lamp with tighter & brighter beam) • Stiff Knobs (to avoid accidental changes, can be loosened if desired)

@BusDriverBob well the only advantage I have over the G is priority jump. I use that all the time while scanning, but then again my go to repeater is also in the scan. Priority does have an annoying skip ecery 5 secs during Rx. I thought something was wrong, but BSR said thats the radio "steathly" scanning the priority channel while kistening to other freqs. I don't really use the dark modes during the day, the Classic white with blue font is the best. There's no activity on 220 out here so that's a no big deal. Doesn't sound like you need to upgrade at all to me. I would stick with the G.

Hey man! So when I get my HAM license I will. It actually resembles our old Fire Dept radios 20 years ago! That radio is more of a business style and not hobby, which is primarily what I do. I have no problem buying one ($69 on their site), but I'm not sure of the FCC rules on that frequency transmitting. It probably wouldn't be a big deal since I do tranmission testing way out in the country, and would not interfere with others communications. But, keep on mind I have viewers all over the world seeing these vids, which also means I would be recording myself breaking FCC laws.... I will look more into it and get back with you.

It should be the same since they both are superheterodyne. I'm guessing if they aren't, it's the antenna difference. The 9GX just has more bells and whistles. I will send an email over there and ask. I will be back in touch tomorrow.

So Mark at Better Safe Radio replied back to my email. Check this out!!!! "They are not the same, but they are both superhet receivers and the audio on the 916 is actually even cleaner, in my opinion. The 916 sounds phenomenal and while it’s puts out a little less power than the UV9-series (usualy), it doesn’t make much difference and it definitely gets the job done, and it’s of course much more affordable if someone is looking for just a solid GMRS radio with some basic UHF scanning. the battery life is also great (no auto-drain either) and the standard LCD is easier to see in bright light. It’s really a great deal and sadly not many people know about the 916 yet. The new version just released a week or so ago includes a USB-C battery now also, for the same price." So, looks like the 916 is a top notch radio for that price!

Kind of late to the game here, but if I could suggest trying the Retevis NR30 radio. I can speak clearly to my wife 12 miles away from our ranch to her workplace in town. We are high desert 4600' ft....relatively line of sight with a hill between us. Radios were set on high power, everything is as delivered from Retevis. I don't like the fact their software does not support IOS, and Chirp does not support the radio either. They come pre-programmed with privacy codes, but those can be disabled manually with a couple button presses. Anyway, my $0.02 if anyone cares. Thanks for your videos...I'm learning quite a bit.

Ptt connection what attachment? male female? I am lost thank you
@FirstUnitedTactical
@FirstUnitedTactical 3 ай бұрын
Let's see: Mark doesn't sell the 935g, so he will suggest the 9Gx. The 9gx is about $50 more than the 935g, but if you ask me, the upgrades and features internally are worth it. I also was on the fence when I got this one, but I figured if I'm already spending $150 on a 935, I may as well spend another 50 and get the gx. I am that way, though.... both are standard K connectors for mics. Yes. The 935 is a 66 rating and the 9gx us a 55, but they are both sealed enough normal usage wouldn't matter. I don't believe I would take either one white water rafting down the Colorado River! I believe I answered what you were looking for. If you order the gx, use the link in the description so I can get recognized for the "lead" please, and if u go with the 935g make sure it's the 935g PLUS. The plus has an easier repeater programming menu than the regular 935g. However, the 9gx is simple to program also, AND Mark has all those emergency channels installed. It would take anyone days and days to research all of them and program. I'm almost positive the 935 does not come with that, because that is a BSR thing, and he rocks! (No I don't know him personally, but he answers emails at all hours of the night and those other guys would never do that...) do your research before you buy and make sure you are getting what you want. $150-$200 isn't money to just kick around these days. Don't settle! Both companies will accept returns or exchanges, but you still have a (maybe) 10-20% restocking fee, and you also have to pay for return shipping. Just do your research. Oh, take a look at the UV9PX also at BSR, just for giggles! Maybe watch a video or two about unlocking it and unleashing awesome capabilities for a real SHTF type of incident. I hope this helps! Either way, they are both excellent internals and will be 100x better than the small budget radios, as you can hear in the video.

I’d like to see a similar comparison of GMRS radios but with them all using the Nogoya 771G antenna that’s optimized GMRS to eliminate the differences in their stock antennas as a factor. Then you’re just comparing radios. Maybe throw in the TD-H3, BF-F8HP, your Wouxun, etc…

Hey Nick. This is a second reply, so make sure you see the 1st with the video link. I understand a lot of videos you want me to do, but let me say this: you sound very intellectual, so you know it's against FCC rules to transmit GMRS freq's on a HAM radio like the 8HP. This is just a small example. In my handheld collection, I have: Q10h Q10g UV9Px UV9Gx Bao 8HP Bao 5g *new* Bao 5g Pro Bao 5g Plus Bao 5RH Bao 9g Tid H8 Tid H3 And obviously the Bao UV5R. No one will ever see me transmitting on a dedicated HAM Dual Band radio like the Q10h or 9Px because I don't have my Tech yet. All of my past and current videos only show transmitting on dedicated GMRS radios because if I pushed the button on a Bao 8HP, that's incriminating, and we don't want that! I get tons of request for videos, which I especially love field tests, and my new Field Strength Meter.... that thing is addicting when you have 30+ aftermarket antennas and all these handhelds! I'm still new to KZbin, but videos are mostly uploaded 1 per week. I do everything I can to get requests in first. When someone says buy and test this antenna, I pretty much do it, with my own money because someone may introduce me to something I didn't know. Anyway, hopefully this didn't put you to sleep, and that video link will get you through until I can get a better one. I know what you are looking for when it comes to the Nagoya 771g. It's my favorite 15", even with maybe 10 others in the stack! Did you see my newest titled "Talk Farther"? It's all 771 antennas, but just one radio, which I believe is my Wouxun 9Gx... (I could be wrong)! Thanks for questions and requests.
@NickWindham
@NickWindham 15 күн бұрын
@@FirstUnitedTactical Yes sir! Excellent field test video. Thanks for sharing. You’ll love this. You can increase your signal strength significantly on even the best antenna’s by attaching 25 cent “counterpoise” wire at the screw for connecting the belt clip if it’s grounded to your antenna. It’s also known as a tiger tale, rat tail. Could only find a few KZbin videos on it but the ones that showed it with tests had impressive results. A guy even made a product out of it called ZipTenna. Turns out, Extra Class Hams know this as a radial. Adding a few of them increases the antenna’s power majorly. You can even add one or two cut to 1/4 wave length for each band you use connected to the same ground and the RF will naturally choose the correct length radials. Thick gauge speaker wire works well because you can make two lengths with each because each cord has two wires. If you wanted to make an eye catching thumbnail, about a 8 radials equally spaced pointed 45 degrees downwards is optimal. Test also show that thicker wire works a little better, which would help hold them at 45 degrees. I wouldn’t be able to resist clicking a video showing a guy with 12 radials on his HT to see the results. It would be cool to show this on your channel with same range tests on same antennas and radios.

For the most part the antenna that comes with it will pick up 2m/7cm, GMRS and Weather. You should be able to pick up everything it can scan. I only listen to the ones I listed above. And, that antenna works extremely well on GMRS. If you decide to upgrade the antenna, get a Smiley from BSR, or Amazon, but it's not necessary. @@uwayzofoster4753 It does so much I haven't even figured it all out yet! I do use the "channel group scan" quite a bit because I drive throughout the day into different areas that have different repeaters. Do you have Chirp yet? If not, watch my Chirp for Beginners to learn the basics. There's also Priority Channel, which is if you are scanning a group of channels or repeaters, and your "favorite" channel gets activity, the radio will immediately go to that channel. If you are scanning, and you hear a "skip" every 5 seconds, that means the priority channel is listening. To stop that "skip", turn off priority scan. That was a quick trick I leaned. The radio is a power house and will definately talk and receive great, and all that other stuff is just bells and whistles! I don't have an in-depth video on it, but there are some out there. Read the "manual" to get the basics on the menu options.

It is. That's the #1 downfall. I don't have an issue with it because all of our repeaters in San Antonio are linked, so I just stay on one channel and don't need to change channels. If you do need to change channels, cover it with your hand to help, or get under a tree or in the shade. It doesn't have the same screen as the Tidradios or Baofengs. To me, the power and able to Rx better is more important than a smaller, cheaper radio that doesn't perform as well.

Hey Jason. The biggest answer to your question is you want an actual police scanner. You want a scanner that will listen to P25 channels. That's 90% of law enforcement. You can hear fire and ems all day long on VHF frequencies with any "dual band" radio, even the $20 Baofeng UV5R's. All of these radios are Analog, and Law has gone Digital in most cities now. You would need to create an account with Radioreference.com and go to your local area to see what those emergency frequencies are. No "normal Joe Blow" radio will listen to P25. You would spend $1,000 on average for a Kenwood or similar to get those channels. Look on Amazon (for starters) at Uniden Scanner. The only reason you would be spending ($500) on a Uniden Scanner is to pick up law enforcement. Keep in mind, just about all UHF/VHF (also called dual band) can listen to fire and ems. Typically fire and ems bands are VHF and located in the 154-155 Mhz range. Back in the good old days, anyone could hear law on these radios, but they went digital to slow down everyone listening. You can download the "Scanner Radio" app for free on your cell phone. From there, you can hear just about everything going on also. I get alerts for shootings, manhunts, kidnappings and all that stuff. It's free. Look for the orange background logo with a Grey radio, and on the radio screen, it says POLICE. Get that app.

No. There's quite a few, but sadly no Wouxuns.

@@FirstUnitedTactical well darn it. I've gotten spoiled by my Btech Pro, need nothing but my iPhone. And I've always got it on trips. I wish all could be programmed on iPhone.

@olegig5166 you don't really need to change programming on one if these radios. It stores 999 channels, and has channel groups to keep different cities or locations separate from "home" location. It's super easy to program these also on the front keys. I have 9 different sections if channels and frequencies in my Wouxun. 1. Home 2. Town 30 miles away 3. Antonio 40 miles opposite direction 4. City 5 hours away at daughters 5. City on coast 3 hrs away And so on.... When you get to those areas, just scan that group.

Can it transmit 5w on GMRS?
@FirstUnitedTactical
@FirstUnitedTactical 2 күн бұрын
@jamesmcfarland2636 Oh yes. When you get a higher quality radio it actually sends more of the 5w onto the frequency you are transmitting on. Some of the lower quality radios send out 5w, but it may only be 3w on the desired frequency, and 1w on the two frequencies upper and lower. For example: a lower quality radio "may" send out 3w on 462.625, and 1w on 462.600 and 1w on 462.650. If the receiving radio is on 462.625, they may only hear 3w of your tranmission. With a higher quality radio, like Wouxun, Midland, etc..., you are sending out more of a solid wattage on that particular channel. You get what you pay for, and it receives a better signal as well. Hope that makes sense.

@FirstUnitedTactical how does the 2m rule work vs these ? Is what I don't understand I read 2w limit than I read 5w on these
@FirstUnitedTactical
@FirstUnitedTactical Күн бұрын
@jamesmcfarland2636 go to Google and type in gmrs Wattage chart. FRS and GMRS share the same frequencies. The only difference is the wattage allowed when using them. FRS is like the camping walkie talkies you buy for $29 pair. GMRS radios are more powerful, and also able to talk on repeaters to be able to reach 50 miles or so in transmitting. You don't need a license for FRS, but you do need one for GMRS.

@FirstUnitedTactical those sell as grms but they really aren't than ? Sorry I'm asking so much, very limited info on it on Google, I think I got it now looking again.whats the range on these without a repeater if I had 2 ?
@FirstUnitedTactical

@jamesmcfarland2636 The Wouxun KG-UV9GX is a true GMRS radio. The main "way" it is a gmrs radio is because it is "repeater capable". FRS radios are not repeater capable, and they are capped off at 2w I believe. Anytime you see a radio that says channels 1-22 and repeater channels 23-30, you know it's a true GMRS radio. It's easy to get a license to transmit through the FCC, and it's good for 10 years, plus good for your entire family. No test, just credit card to FCC for $35 and your good in about 24 hours. I will look up the repeaters in your area. What city and state are you in?
