The biggest problem with DJI is that they insist on regular software updates where they add flight restrictions to different areas and they threaten to ground users who don't update. This is normally ok but the last update in July mashed the brain of my Phantom 3 Advanced. Everything, even the gimbal, was still functional but it refused to fly so I had to send it back to DJI for repair. They spotted that I had added a gimbal guard to the camera so they blamed that for the software crash, claiming that the software detected the extra part. Total nonsense of course, but it meant that I would have to pay £300 for a new camera in order to get it working again. It just shows how much contempt DJI have for their customers in contrast to what you have said about Mi. Needless to say, I'm done with DJI now and will be scrapping my Phantom 3 Advanced for parts, so will probably buy a Mi 4K because it looks really impressive.

Why? Buy a phantom 4. I have had mine for over a year and have only had a minor issue that barely affected the drone. This video seems to be mildly biased, and I would say that the extra 10 minutes that you get out of a phantom 4 is so much better than the Mi drone. And DJI has a far better and more customizable interface. Buy the one from the reputable company.

Very nice video, Sami. And informative. I've got a 4k Mi and I'm well satisfied with it. I like the idea that the 4k camera is easily removable. If I had one complaint, it would be about getting the controller to connect with my Iphone hotspot. Usually takes 3-4 tries before I get it to connect and that is with the USB cable. There are a lot of comments here about price difference with the DJI brand. As someone said, "every time you fly, you take a chance of losing your drone". Sometimes components fail no matter who the manufacturer is. I wouldn't feel half as bad losing a $400 drone, as compared to a drone twice or three times the price. Just sayin' but again, nice job Sami.

Brilliant video! I have Mavic Pro and it is really good, except that mediocre camera. However, those things fly and usually crash so DJI prices are little bit high for a fact that you can loose the drone every time you fly. On the other hand Xiaomi is as good, or even better, but much more affordable. One more subjective thing, I do not like Phantom form factor and design, so this Mi Drone even similar looks much better to me personally.

Nice done! It's interesting to have photo and video crop with a lot of small contrast objects (when stationary and when airborne separately) to see real resolution of image and to compare 4K with 2.7K cameras.

Well I've got 22 min with my p3se in the cold. Also where they both brand new batteries? If your phantom battery has say 40 cycles it will have less flight time then say your mi drone has New one. Good test though.

It doesn't kill anything. This drone is not turning slowly at all, the turns are too fast to make a pleasant video.There is not comparison with DJI, except on straight line, but the video quality of the camera is very poor, the colours not natural and the frame rate not sufficient for fluid video, compared to the GO Pro, or the internal camera of the DJI.

Basically I'm not sure why the P3S sucks so much with it's live video feed and range but my solution is just going to be installing the litchi app and doing planned flights. Honestly I properly calibrated and test flew my P3S but the important DJI Go app settings keep changing on their own and the drone did not return to home after losing signal with my controller it just hovered until I walked closer and grabbed the antenna to help conduct it. Seriously I'm going to have to do mods to get even a video signal 30 m distance from the drone.

Xiaomi 4k drone wins in many areas. Just got a Phantom 3 Pro to replace my lost Xiaomi 4k drone. Even with Lightbridge, the live streaming is choppy. Xiaomi streams smoothly (though the Android app does crash / stop streaming from time to time, but it's easy to reconnect the camera). Might be due to the frequencies being used. Xiaomi is using 5ghz, which doesn't get as much interference or attenuation where I'm at. Plus Xiaomi does 60fps at 2.7k!

I don't get it. Is this comparison based specifically on price? The P3 standard is much older tech, being released in 2015. Why not compare it with a more current DJI equivalent or even the P3 4K, which has similar range, a better camera and UI imo. At this level, the price variance and performance needs to be a drastically different in order to switch from the market leader to an also-ran. There are many benefits to buying an established brand, with lots of support and parts availability. Competition is a good thing but the Mi Drone 4K needs to come down in price by at least $100 to be a disrupter, especially now that the Mavic and Spark own the small drone space. People are moving away from the bigger, louder rigs. Compare the Mi Drone with the Mavic. . . that would be a compelling video.

This is a perfect comparison for even today. With the Mi 4k frequently on sale for as low as $350 US, many are asking questions about it, and a common reply is "just save a little more money and get a P3 Standard instead for around $500". So when others are saying today it is better to get a P3 Standard, then a comparison of these is the right thing to do. Why compare Mi 4k to the DJI's that cost 2 to 3x more, when many people today still suggest getting a P3 Standard? A better suggestion would be: "If you were looking at getting a DJI P3 Standard, might as well get the Xiaomi Mi 4k for a slightly better unit, at a lower cost".

No comparison between the two. Mi drone wins hands down. The Phantom SE is only going on sale in China as far as I know (at least for now), to take on the rise in mi drone popularity and at a similar price I understand to. The DJI SE has better specs than some of the drones they sell in USA and Europe. Goes to show that in my opinion DJI products are overpriced. Bit of competition from someone offering a quality product to rival DJI may prove good for the consumer. Regards Gary.

Does the Mi drone 4k has a flatter contrast profile, because in this video it has more contrast so lower Dynamic range than the DJI standard. Apart from that the gribble looks rock solid, the DJI has micro jiter, I have same problem at high shutter speed.

Damn, I'm a pensioner and have been saving my pennies to buy a DJI, there were no other options as far as I knew, now I see this and my plans are buggered. I have enough to buy the Mi outright, but it'll be close to 2019 by the time I save enough to buy the DJI unless the bump the prices up even more.. Do I take a deep breath and grab the Mi now, (Minow, sounds like a Chinese cat) or wait for the DJI ???? at 12:59 the Mi is like a Tripod in the Sky 👍 The Phantom shows jello and wobble. The Mi image quality is hands down better than the DGI in all areas 👌 Had to turn down the annoying sound, and the constant tilting of the gimble made for very annoying footage on the range tests, something to consider for future tests pls 😁

How would that be more fair? Its not a feature comparison a its a value comparison. $350-$400 MI drone vs $500+ DJI drone so whats the problem? One of my first times out it scared me because I was only about 300 m away when I lost connection and slid return to home and it failed every time I had to walk over closer to it and hold the antenna with my hand to increase range to reconnect... I also never had video even from 30 meters away, I assumed was because of possible WiFi interference. I've overall not been impressed and this MI drone is what I wish I had bought.

@@SergeGolikov I agree. However DJI is considered the 'Top of the Line Brand' for prosumer drones, and so it should be. SO when i do a more prosumer based job and throw around the Chinese sounding brand Xiaomi (Pronounced 'show me') It makes me seem more unprofessional and cheap, even though it performs better than the DJI Phantom 3 in many ways.

Compare it to the Phantom 3SE as it has the same price tag as Xiaomi Mi Drone. It shoots 4k same with the Xiaomi and goes up to 4km distance.
