You can turn off the drum intro and you will need to. He is very correct to say some of the drum intros are ridiculous and give ZERO indication of what is to follow. It is a fail. What planet does the programmer live on? He is very correct in saying the manual is poorly written. The pedal is connectable to other pedals. You have to wonder that if it needs another pedal you might be better off with a bigger thing. The (manual) advice in the connection of another pedal tells you to look at some on line resource which is also pretty poorly written and really lacks attention to setting it up to be anything like useful. That is a fail. If you want to for example change the rhythm pattern or tempo you'll be on your knees pushing buttons and turning dials with your fingers (instead of standing up or sitting) because it provides limited options for foot switching. Can I get the additional foot switch to be set up to change a rhythm and a tempo, something I would often want to do in a live show ? I hope so but I won't hold my breath. Where is the answer to this question? Not in the manual. The FS-6 footswitch also comes with a manual and ridiculous lack of clarity. It has a polarity setting . There isn't a good explanation what it does. I won't write it off yet but as a tool for live work, it doesn't appear to be quite what I hoped for. Be careful what you wish for.
@mikehewett43934 жыл бұрын
Here's a thought: you could use the external foot switches to move up and down between loop patches. That way you can pair up the patches (pre-saved, of course) to vary the tempo/pattern and/or have 4 different sections to the loops instead of just two. Great for pieces with long outros such as Sultans Of Swing or Hotel California. As for the external foot switches, (they are labelled Control 1 and Control 2 in the downloadable Parameter List, they work straight out of the box on the un-latched (momentary) setting. I also got the FS7 which is very neat and sits comfortably beside the RC 10R on a crowded pedal board and is easier to use than I expected (except B is 1 and A is 2!).
@stevezirkler46194 жыл бұрын
@@mikehewett4393 Yep I thought about that (thank you though) but having a tempo control as one of the footswitchable parameters would have been smart. I believe it is only available for stored patches. As you said, pre-prepared. So while you are jamming around you constantly have to bend down and physically change tempo which is annoying and isn't going to help spontaneity. The other thing this device does is when you have dialed in a tempo and you hit the play switch, it often reverts to the "preset" tempo of the patch. It is an annoying gliche. Once I start pre-preparing tracks I feel like I may as well have simply prepared karaoke background which gives me a great visual reference to song parts and even lyrics. I'll jam around with it and eventually get comfortable with its limitations but there are glaring oversights in this otherwise sturdy box.

Do you have a recommendation for that?! It is not the Infinity by Pictronix as it stretches the loops if you do not stop recording very precisely on beat 1 of the subsequent bar. Can the RC5/RC500 be Midi-coupled to the BB in that sense? Or is the RC500 the ultimate stand alone Looper-Rhythm machine (maybe with additional footswitches)? Or do you have new insights how to Midi-control the RC10 so that have more flexibility, especially for independently use the rhythm section w/o the looper and add the looper occasionally?! I know, a lot of questions 😉 I‘m looking forward to your answers or from other well-experienced looper users. Thanks again & regards, Jürgen

There are heavier and lighter sounding kits available, and the volume of the drums relative to the loops and volume of drums in the A vs. B parts of the song, can be set on a per-song basis. This volume level adjustment is not the same as "performance intensity", but it goes a long way towards determining how "heavy" the sound of the drums will be in a song.

@bigrig43852 жыл бұрын
It only takes a couple seconds to erase your most recent loop, so unless your mistake was very obvious and took place in the first 2 seconds of the loop, nobody would notice. However, if your mistake was not the most recent loop, I've found it's a total nightmare and it's easier to just start all over. If anybody has an answer for erasing a loop that wasn't your most recent loop, that'd be helpful. Sometimes I just unplug it from the wall and plug it back in, such a headache.

Granted this isn't the easiest pedal to get to know but this reviewer has made no attempt to try and find out what it can do. In common with every other manufacturer these days Boss are trying to save paper. The manual directs you to an online document referred to as the "Parameter List" and it is very long but it is the only way you will understand what you can do with it. Just about every complaint in this review can be addressed with a parameter change. So, if you want to just unbox it and play then it's not for you but there are some revolutionary good ideas in there. It's fun finding out.

Hear hear, this is the way into the "brain" of the pedal, or into the brains of the people who programmed it anyway. Many aspects can be set on a per-song basis with a few presses and twists of the encoder knob. I also must say having an external footswitch, or better yet a dual, makes ANY of the smaller form-factor Boss looper pedals from the RC-2 onward into much more versatile performance and composition tools.

I highly recommend getting the Boss dual footswitch accessory. The two switches can be mapped to two parameters from a long, long list. I have one set to always drive tap-tempo input, and the second footswitch is set to stop/erase ONLY the Part 2 (B section) recorded loop phrase, so I can obliterate the just the Part 2 summed loop recordings without affecting the Part 1 loop. I seem to start a song with a much clearer concept for Part 1 then Part 2 LOL.

Song writing minded jams is what is best at. Every complaint you have you followed with "yeah you can fix it". Not sure what you're getting on about.

True, true, true, and 10000% true. Thank you! The idea was really good creating a compact looper with high-quality sound, but the software /omg just look at their web page software that is a total mess so unfriendly and for creating a life session you need to know a lot of tricks, like for example, if you are trying to save tempo you need to record the first loop without playing, only after that you can start. cause if for god sake your song is 120 and you have made a mistake in playing and stopped the looper, the tempo would be 150 or 160 any random amount. well, so sad, really expansive and so useless.

If you are looking for a simple looper, try the Digitech Trio band+. Your drummer will have two variations in intensity (and your bass player even three). Plus the option to shut them up, if nothing they play can charm you. And although you have only 1 track; you can organize five song parts in any order you want. A very nice, easy to operate practicing tool(and cheaper than the Boss RC 10...). Though I would program the songs in advance if you are playing for a wedding, because not all genre and style combi’s give the result you expect, when teaching your band...

The Digitech Trio Band+ and the Boss RC-10R kinda make for a interesting comparison because they both tackle a similar concept in very, very different ways. When I was first looking at getting a pedal that could handle looping and rhythm in one unit, I tried the Digitech Trio Band+ and to be honest, I liked the idea but I found it very clumsy to use. It has a lot of functionality but some of that functionality slowed down the process a bit too much to be a sort of spur of the moment practice/composition/jamming tool. It is the kind of pedal that really needs you to sit down and hold its hand carefully through all the parts required and then you can step back from the controls and have fun playing. This isn't bad per se but it does kinda defeat the purpose of having it in a pedal form-factor. The other issue that kinda stood out when I tried one for a while was that it really, really needed the external footswitch to make the part system really work well. Not having a dedicated footswitch on the pedal to manage the parts made it really difficult to just enjoy the experience as I had to constantly bend down and push a button. It seems silly to complain about that but when you are playing guitar and really getting into it, having to stop and press a button on the pedal is kinda a buzzkill. In a lot of ways, the Trio pedal goes for complexity at the expense of control. It tries to pack a lot of stuff in a very small form factor and not always in a way that makes it a smooth creative/guitar playing process. Even when you use the external footswitch option, you still feel like Digitech should have thought things through a bit more and really focused on the experience of the guitarist who wants to play without having to stop and fuss with something too much. The RC-10R takes a different approach. It trades in some of the Trio's complexity but in the process, it becomes a lot faster and a lot more convenient to use. You don't get the bass parts in the rhythm portion but that also means you don't need to "teach" it the chords. You need only dial the drum sound you want and you are free to go from there. Likewise. You don't get five parts but since it only has two parts, you can easily switch between parts without having to stop playing. The other big thing is that it's pretty simple displays give you a very clear idea of where you are in not only the loops you have created but also where you are in a given rhythm part. It may not have the sheer level of functions built in but if you are looking for something that you can just hit some footswitches occasionally and focus instead on playing, that lack of functionality isn't really a issue and may even be a benefit. If there is one thing that both pedals need, it is more built-in footswitches. They both really do need external footswitches to really start working well but even with the extra footswitch pedal, the Trio+ is still too slow and clumsy to really use as a convenient jamming/composition tool. In comparison, when you plug the extra footswitch into the RC-10, it actually lets you choose the functions you want to map so you can quite effectively remove any of the issues that only having two built-in footswitches created on the pedal.

@@startrekmike Isn't the bass line what makes the Trio+ much more interesting than the RC-10?
