Ummm, the surface was always advertised as 2 external monitors plus the surface screen. Total 3 screens. They never said 3 external monitors

What refresh rate were the monitors running at? Is it possible to run 2 external monitors @ 60hz 1920x1080 with the Surface Pro 6 and Surface Dock 1? Or do you need the Surface Dock 2?

Surface Dock 2 I don't think is compatible with SP6 because the lack of USB-C support.

This will work with Surface Pro 7 but there is a newer version of this surface dock it will have USB-C ports at the back for the displays instead now.

I am currently running three 1080 monitors with the surface doc powering two and the surface powering another. You must use "Second Screen Only", which means the surface will not display, but three monitors will. There is a way.

This! people complain too much. You can add another monitor using wireless adapter too. Surface is a great product with lots of freedom and mobility I love it

Hi John, welcome to my videos. This new surface Dock will connect to Surface Pro 1796 (Surface Pro 5) and will happily use all the ports like the video. Hahha interesting to hear what a ASMR video was I had to actually google that one myself! Being one of my very early videos I also agree haha my tone of voice then when I first started youtube had really that monotone and sleepiness to it doesn't it hopefully I didn't put you to sleep watching it, it wasn't my intention to.

Are those monitors 1080p ? Did you get 60FPS on each monitor ? Is it capable of doing 2 4k monitors at 60Hz ?

Intel iGPU limits output to 3 monitors, so you can't have more than 2 external monitors. My MacMini suffers from the same issue despite its 4 TBT3 ports and 1 HDMI port. The Dell can do that because it has an integrated USB 3.0 GPU chip (DisplayLink technology).

@@AWorld180 I do not know. Frankly I never found the use of more than 2 monitors since if I do that, my neck needs constantly rotate to view the three monitors, and I found that uncomfortable. Maybe 3 smaller monitors will work, but I've never tried. Tried a landscape 30" and two portrait 24", and my neck sore for the entire time.

whenever i try to enable to more monitors connected to my surface book + surface dock it keeps flickering on and off constantly saying it's missing hdmi input on the external screens or it only enables 1 screen. no matter how i set it in windows display settings it's always either that 1 screen is completely turned off and receives no hdmi input or external screen 2 and screen 1 are mixed up in positions even when the surface dock is closed... how the f do i fix this, windows display settings ain't helping out at all, moving the display icons works for 1 millisecond then returns back to the glitched position, neither does it actualy identify the screens properly, it always bugs around with surface dock screen + 2 external screens. also can see this in device manager constantly detecting a 3rd screen then refreshing itsself and loop detecting it again in endlessly with a annoying notification sound

Is it possible to have 2 monitors running at 4k 60hz with a surface book 2? I've read dock is capable of 1 4k 60hz...what about 2nd...as sb2 doesn't have a display port like the pro?

Welcome Diaconescu Tiberiu, unfortunately I don't have a Surface Book 2 available to me to test this scenario with the Surface Dock so I can't answer your question. From what I know previously is that the Surface Book 2 is only able to run two 4K monitors at 30HZ through the Surface Dock and I know how silly this sounds when the Surface Book 2 has a lot of graphics power.

There isn't any HDMI ports on on the dock, you have to purchase mini displayport to HDMI adapters if you are looking to connect it to a HDMI monitor (Aye extra cost, it would have been good if Microsoft gave full size Displayports and also HDMI ports, lets hope Surface Dock 3 will have that if they release one).

You will need he power plugged in, the surface special connection seems to be a one way power, so the Surface won’t power the dock even for just for the USB ports.

Hi House on Drum On, welcome to my videos. The surface dock does say it can support dual 4k monitors but it will be at 30hz, I can't test this out as I don't have two to three 4k monitors at my disposal atm. As for trying to support 4k monitor at 60hz this is an interesting one as there are many attempts I heard and some people have manage to get one 4k 60hz via the dock and some can't. For me if you have the correct cables and adapters my advice for the best chance for this to work is to make sure you have HDMI 2.0 cable with the Surface mini DP to HDMI 2.0 adapter. The key being the 2.0, version HDMI 1.4 will not have the bandwidth capacity for 60hz. As for Display port again need the right adapter that supports DP 1.2 and good quality cable to be able to push enough data through for the 4k 60Hz else you be stuck at 4k 30Hz. This site gives an idea of the cable type for DP, surfacetip.com/best-mini-displayport-displayport-cable/ . Type and quality of cable is very important to achieve the 4K 60Hz which most people overlook.

Welcome to my videos Dark Nexus, if you don't need to charge the surface go via the dock then you can purchase a USB-C adapter, there are plenty out there at very decent prices (great starting point here: www.techradar.com/au/deals/best-usb-c-adapters). Alternatively a USB-C dock can also charge the Surface Go via the USB-C port. If you like to get a dock on budget a suggestion is to look for older models of docks, like the Dell WD15 which has been superseded and you might be able to pick one up cheaper or even on the second hand market.

Hi MFHRaptor, we haven't heard any news if there is going to be a new version of the Surface Dock yet. Looking at the ports of the Surface Pro X it does have the Surface Connect port which will means it should work with the Surface Dock. We still waiting to hear reviewers find out if the Surface Pro X USB-C ports allows charging. If it does then it be great to find other USB-C docks for the Surface Pro X.

@MFHRaptor, was just speaking to a Microsoft rep when they showing us the new Surface Line. Unfortunately the first Surface Pro X hadn't arrived in Australia yet for them to demo to us. Having chat to them they have confirmed that there isn't any new dock this year and all the new Surface line will work with this current Surface Dock. Also confirmed that the USB-C port on the new Surface will allow charging to the Surface so you can use third party docks now. The advantage of using the Surface Dock is the Quick charge feature, which isn't through the USB-C but through the surface connector.
