Microsoft Surface Dock 2 Reaction - Please Let it Work!

I'm a Surface Book user that owns the original Surface Dock to connect the laptop to my monitor and peripherals at the desk. I've had lots of problems with the original dock, and even had Microsoft replace mine for not working correctly. This is my reaction to Microsoft's announcement of a new dock. I really hope the new one works without any of the issues the first one had.

Never had any of those problems with the Dock and I've been using the Dock in a business setting. Stable as a rock. Really looking forward to the Dock 2.

Didn't have so many issues either, but I checked the video because I wanted to know more about surface dock 2 issues, not because I wanted to hear minutes of complaints about the old one. So more focus on topic would be good. Also I don't see a real use of listening to someone commenting an official presentation video.

I have had the original surface dock, connected and working perfectly constantly for 5 years…updated the firmware just once. It is and was a perfect product. I'm sure the new dock is similarly good.

My question is with the "microsoft" docking station, can you close the laptop and still use external keyboard and mouse with external monitor? I bought a compatible docking station and I cannot close the laptop and still have it function on external devices. For work, I have a docking station and can close the laptop and use external devices. Do I need to get a "microsoft" specific docking station or does this just not work with the ms laptop 2? Thank you.

I have 3 of the original dock. Except a sound problem thy was fixed like two years ago with a simple firmware update, I never had any problems and I am using two LG ultra wide screens and works a treat. Not getting this

have you bought dock2 and received it yet? I got mine today, not working with external displays at all. switched different displays, tried surface book3 & laptop2, tried different usbc-hdmi cable, tried update windows, update dock firmware for dock(probably was for dock1, but installed anyway). cleared display cache. did everything possible, not working. contacted support, suggesting I received a faulty item, I bought 2 of them, both give the same "USB device might need more power" error, I'm in Australia, I see they have removed dock2 from the au website, you can still reach the page through google, but on ms website, dock 2 is gone. are there some issues with dock2? I hope they fix this soon, so sad I have to replace dock2 with my old dock1 again this afternoon. :( if you received your dock 2, and managed to get it to work, even with just one ext-display, please let me know how you did it!

Same here! So excited about the prospect of finally getting my external monitor to work with the Dock 2. Same as you... tried everything with no luck, so reverted back to the USB-C to HDMI cable directly in the Surface Pro port. I passed that unit onto a co-worker to try with his (different brand) 4k monitor. No luck on his either! Second Dock 2 we ordered arrived, so I thought I'd give that one a try in case the issue was with the first unit received. No luck! These things are pathetic! :(

Yeah! Hopefully my SB2 13 could finally output 4K60Hz on my 4kHDR monitor without glitches! Cheers

Hey why is the windows update such a big deal here? Don’t all windows 10 devices have the update facility. I don’t get why this is such a big deal. Hopefully somebody can clue me up. The SB3 looks like a great successor to getting a MBP, I’m so done with Apple.

There is a major issue with the Dock 2 and everything Microsoft has related to the dock 2. The also name their docks and surface pros in a manner to make it easier to search) I will refrain from using bad language. Issue is the following. Connecting Dell P2418HT with HDMI and USB c using CLDAY adapter directly to the Pro & UBS 7 - NO ISSUE. Then if i move the setup to any one of the USB C's on the dock 2 nothing, screen flickers comes on goes off real .... So, what on earth is the story. So forget about updates etc, its' not working. Not sure what screen works with this thing. Issue is Microsoft told me this was the solution. Thoughts

The Surface Dock 2 is a POS device. The firmware is "uncooked", MS is in denial. Not all the ports function on the Dock 2 I bought. Video streaming/audio sync remains an issue. I regret buying into the Surface architecture.

went through 3 surface dock 2 devices. it's a POS. Surface dock 1 worked better for me

Surface Dock 2 = Total Trash. Microscrap hired the wrong people and company.
