Thank you. I’m in the same boat. I absolutely love the Honda for the package they’ve put together especially for the price point, but KTM has put together the unthinkable package for a pretty decent price point. Only complaint i heard from my buddies who owned the duke390 back in India were reliability related but i do think that those were more maintenance related than design issues.

A well done video comparing all these motorcycles. I'm partial to the Kawasaki Z400 and Honda CB300R and am leaning toward the CB300R. Why? I'm 60 and I have a harder time swinging my leg over the Z400 with that raised passenger seat. I find it a little easier to get on and off the CB300R since the raise on the passenger seat isn't as great. I really dig both of them though.

Excellent vlog. I recently bought a Honda CB300R (2022) in Thailand for the secretary's son moving up from a Honda Wave 125. I actually like the Honda CB300R because of the lack of electronic driving aids, simplicity and strong engine and the Neo Cafe Racer looks of the CB650R. I tend to look at everything available on the market but always end up buying Honda for reliability and quality. Honda have 72% of the Thai motorbike market and manufacture nearly all Honda models in Thailand up to and including the 750cc's so spares are readily available.

True. For some reason it's been hard for all the other manufacturers to keep up with Japanese engineering terms of reliability and predictable performance. The Lean and Six Sigma principles they gave to the world are well known. But being a LSS expert, I know by experience that they aren't followed with as much perfection as they are in Japan.

Thanks for a really informative presentation. Thanks for comparing the sound before and after. No one else has done that . Big question. I need to know which motorcycles in your comparison will be the easiest maneuverable in very slow (single digit speeds) parking lot competency drills ? I am going to do weekly practice sessions to gain crash avoidance skills (swerve, quick stopping, slow turns and leaning skills in smaller areas) This seems to be sending me to the Honda CB300R , maybe.
@RiderXp14 күн бұрын
I’m glad you found it helpful, thanks for the kind words. The CB300 is indeed a very good recommendation for what you’re trying to accomplish. Honda as a company always prides itself in making the best handling motorcycles which trickles down from their MotoGP machines to flagship sportbikes and all the way down to beginner and even commuter bikes. I’ve owned the previous gen of the cb300 in a sport bike avatar and can confirm based on personal experience as well.

Corrections: 1. Huskies have tubeless tires. 2. No they won't come to India. I waited 1 year for 401 launch before Bajaj announced they won't launch it here hence went with 250.
@RiderXp2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing. 1. At the time of making the video, the 401s had spoked wheels in some countries (like US) and tubeless cast alloy wheels in some (like Philippines). I do try to keep track of top 4-5 countries, but every now and then some unique data point about a specific country gets missed. I'm trying my best to avoid that though. 2. At the time of making this video (months ago), I was hopeful. Of course now we know that Husqy went the other way. I will always carry the risk of being wrong with such expectations. Thanks for your comment though, keeps me on my toes. Cheers!

What's VERY interesting to me.... Something we hear a lot from experts are criticisms. Of course, we want that. But what often occurs...not always ..but often...the criticism while being true....doesn't or shouldn't devalue the product at all. What the hell am I talking about? For example....the brake system of the bikes here he pointed out two different kinds...I don't remember specifics but that the Yamaha has the lower quality kind in this video. What often happens is the reviewer will point out the use of a lesser type part used. And what we don't know is that the geeks over at Yamaha, to use the brakes example, are saying yeah, no shit....but those while not as good are more than sufficient for the MT-03 and was intentionally designed so we could keep the cost down or put it to other areas. In this case ..it is about cost. Point is ...they point out stuff like that cos they're doing reviews and it's something they know but that weight and engine size bike will never need anything more than what they used.
@RiderXp Жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing your observation. I'm aligned with that. I think manufacturers put in their best to balance cost and quality for the application and customer segment of any product. That's why overt criticism is often misguided. Please share the video with others who may find it helpful.

Seams everyone puts a different exhaust on there bike. I cut my kawasaki z400 2022 exhaust to make it shorter which charges the sound and still looks O.E.M. cool! Did the same with mirrors to stick them out far enough to see behind me.
@RiderXp3 ай бұрын
True. I think it's a personal choice. At the very least, aftermarket exhaust reduce the weight and if you can get a tuner, they can help the bike run a lot better than it did with stock exhaust. I would, however, recommend getting a good brand exhaust because they spend the time, money and research in ensuring that the exhaust system works well with the engine. And I like the mirror idea, it's important to focus on function over form when it comes to things like that.

What’s the most recommended small (300cc to 500cc) bike for a 64-year old guy that hasn’t owned a bike since his late 20’s? I’m in great physical shape, 5’11” tall, 175lbs, 32” pants inseam. My bike in my late teen’s was a Honda 500-4cylinder. Then in my 20’s, a Honda 750-4cylinder. I’d rather try a smaller naked, and then if I want to upsize, then go to a Yamaha MT-07. For now though, should I get a KTM Duke 390, Yamaha MT-03, Honda cb300r, or a Kawasaki Z400?

I would lean in favor of the Honda CB300R because of the fit and finish, good looks, good suspension and Honda reliability that I over a decade of personal experience with. Z400 would be the second one I would recommend but i would swap the tires for a set of Michelines. Hope that helps, welcome back to the tribe of motorcycle riders!

@@RiderXp LOL, thanks for the response! I agree, the cb300r would be my first choice…if I could find a new one within 150-miles of me. There is a new Z400, 55-miles away from me. Another option is a short-term fix, which is buy a KTM Duke 390 since my local dealer just received 6 of them. When the cb300r becomes available, I could either buy one too, and sell the KTM…or keep both. The cb300r is not available in my are until December or early next year, supply chain issues and high demand since a lot of people are going to smaller bikes.

Oh forget to mentation we now need to be careful around Tesla's self driving with people sleeping as 2 people were run over from behind and killed just something to remember

CB 300 Honda has good advantage of being lightest 147kg. This means you call pull it comfortably in parking, parked with other bikes, I am using it, it is great comfort for me with CB300, before I had Triumph 900cc which was always challenge to pull back from parking areas, and heat from engine makes your legs bar b qued. CB300 is perfect machine and being Honda reliability is always you can count on

I am a 5.5' new rider, got the Svartpilen 250.... which means, I barely touch my feet on the ground and additional crash guards plus full luggage racks makes it more difficult.....but am always thrilled to ride it as it's torque-e enough for me to zip-zap-zoom in cities and highways coupled with a decent 35 kmpl mileage......but seriously hate it's ground clearance as well as it's reflective dash acrilic dash cover which makes it hard to read under bright sunlight along with a minor grudge for alloting a single turn signal indicator for both sides......By d way, am a beginner and this is my 1st bike

ya, i want the 250 too but im inthailand and they only have the 200 and 401... forced to 401 i guess... but ill get the Vit and modify it into a Svart, looks cooler white... definitely gonna mod it to lower the seat, tubeless and remove the ugly dashboard as well... im 6'1 but i like low stuff... either way thats definitely gonna be a step up from my yamaha mio125i with a 300cc forced inside... lol

Most beautiful is the cb300r. At the same level is also the ktm but the head light destroys the whole look because it reminds a grasshopper head...

I wonder about the weights of the bikes as some manufacturers list "dry weight" and some list "Wet weight". For example, the KTM is 163kg dry and the MT-03 is 169kg wet.. So add 10-15kg of fuel, oil, ect... to the KTM and it is heavier.
@RiderXp2 жыл бұрын
KTM & a few other manufacturer tend to mention dry weight instead of kerb weight in their catalogues and on their websites. I do try my best to find and list kerb/wet weight so the expectation & comparison is more realistic.

I'd go for a Honda, because it's Honda, or for Kawasaki, because it's 400cc-twin it's most powerful of them and will give you more smoothnes than a cingle cylinder. 22kmpl efficiency seems way too low for Z400, I get at least 25kmpl on my Ninja 650.

btw if someone could suggest me on this, I own FZs V3 2019 edition and I've been loving it for its comfort, mileage and performance. At first I bought the bike for its mileage and the new sportier design. Recently I felt bored and having thoughts about seeing a huge crowd base using the new Fz model. Here I am having thoughts to sell and having thoughts to buy the Honda CB 300R. Please provide your thoughts on how you would consider for someone with 5' 11 height coming from Fz with great comfort and its bulky size to go for Honda CB 300 R Thanks in Advance if someone cares to respond :)
@RiderXp2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the support. I would recommend test riding the CB300R and making up your mind about selling the FZs V3. Although, I can confirm that the CB300R would be a power jump (twice as much as the FZs) and you'll love it. It'll be as comfortable as the FZs.

Am being too much confused between Honda CB 300R and Duke 390 🌚🥲

Very different bikes, CB is more linear, predictable power delivery. Duke 390 engine and geometry makes it more peppy. Sorry for responding now, something's up with my comment notifications.

The akrapovic on such small CCs make them sound like mopeds no? most of them sound better stock, when they don't pretend to be something they're not. The 390 with yoshimura slip on sounds great though.

I agree. Stock exhuast way better than akrapovic. I wonder how the Leo Vince sound..
