You usually don’t get in trouble the first time you make an unsafe move. It can happen much later after the 100th time you do it.

You are oh so correct my friend. That's the challenging part about driving. An unsafe move may not catch up with you right away. But in 5 years, that same move will be dangerous and result in a collision. Stay safe my friend. All the best, Cheers Rick

Hello Rick. You are absolutely correct. Whilst lane changes are allowing under the National road rules in Australia this is a dangerous manoeuvre. This rule should be changed. I have always felt uncomfortable and unsafe doing it and now I NEVER change lanes at intersections.

Despite their best intentions, lawmakers don't always make the best decisions when it comes to traffic and its management. Happy to hear that you're exercising the best defensive posturing my friend. Drop us a note if we can help further. All the best, Cheers Rick

I changed lanes in an intersection today and honestly, it was dumb risking a ticket. I needed the gap to get from the left lane to the right lane so I could turn right in a few hundred feet. Didn't want to miss my turn and go around the block.

It's not so much the ticket my friend, but the risk of getting in a crash. Yet, it was a learning experience, and that's valuable in the driving world. Thanks for being part of the smart driver community and sharing your experience. Drop us a note if we can help further. All the best, Cheers Rick

I hate when your on a turn after a light and there are white dotted lines to show your lane to follow. Theres always an asshat that ignores that and changes into your lane almost causing an accident. Then they give you a dirty look like your wrong, SMH

You can not change lanes in a round-about? If you have 2 lanes in the round-about and you are in the inside lane, how can you exit the round-about?
@smartdrivetest
@smartdrivetest 2 жыл бұрын
In Europe, Australia, China and other places they have huge multi-lane roundabouts my friend. And yes, you can technically change lanes in a roundabout, but it has higher risks than if you change lanes before or after the roundabout. Any time you're moving through an intersection--roundabouts included---and adding additional maneuvers, you're being unpredictable and increasing your risk of a crash. All the best, Cheers Rick

Unless AZ laws changed, the retired cop in the defensive driving school said, and I paraphrase this because it was over 40 years ago, an intersection is where 2 roadways intersect and that one difference is that there are no lane lines and the rules for changing lanes are still the same before, during and after entering the intersection. Now, is it wise, prudent or safe to change lanes in an intersection, not always. If there are no cars traveling head on or perpendicularly, then it’s probably safe. Otherwise, you should avoid it whenever possible. Logic and reasoning applies.

If you're going to turn right when turning left from you isn't an option, Is it okay to turn into lane not closest to you when the perpendicular road is multi-lane when your current road is single lane? The video I mentioned that you talked about is what I am referring to. It's Scotts Car Camera's video on volume 1 on 5 misunderstood rules rules Australia where it says you can turn into any lane.

You can get a PHD in driving?
@smartdrivetest
@smartdrivetest 2 жыл бұрын
Not is driving specifically my friend, but lots of disciplines are related to traffic, its management, and reducing crashes. My PhD is in legal history, which is the study of courts, policing, and prisons. My expertise is in policing as it relates to traffic and laws managing traffic. And in other disciplines you can get a civil engineering degree that looks at the building of roads and the management of traffic. You can learn more about me here: www.smartdrivetest.com/rick-august-phd-autobiography Drop us a note if you have further questions. Cheers Rick

@Smart Drive Test Hey Rick! How do you deal with Break Checkers and Drivers that Tailgate? I have a fear of this.
@smartdrivetest
@smartdrivetest 2 жыл бұрын
Increase your following distance to a minimum of 3 seconds. This technique will reduce the chances of these things happening. Also, if you’re being tailgated, you can pull over & let them go by. And if you’re not tailgating someone else, it’s less likely that you’ll be “brake checked.” Cheers Rick
