One thing commonly forgotten about while doing a left UN-protected turn is that, we pay attention to find a safegap from oncoming traffic but we forget that there maybe pedestrians on the crosswalk of the road that we're turning into. In an unprotected left turn, we need to check for safe gap from BOTH oncoming traffic AND pedestrians who may be using that crosswalk. A reminder for myself first and a reminder for all. Drive safe.

I already have my license and is out of practice for a year. Was in a car accident a year ago with my mom driving that gave me ptsd even though the accident wasn't too bad and we only had light injuries that healed after a couple of months x3 The other driver pulled out without checking for traffic and did an unprotected left turn onto the main road while my mom was going 45, the speed limit, and we slammed straight into them. Since then I've been super scared of driving XD I barely drive around my own block and barely to the gas station now. This instruction video is really good and covered a couple of mistakes I see almost every driver make. One is keeping tires pointed straight ahead while waiting . The second is pulling our straight and making a semi-circle. Too many people make a straight line when turning left. This actually puts the vehicle on the wrong side of the road and forces the driver to make a correction to avoid hitting the center divider, putting their car in the adjacent lane. Annoying and dangerous. You explained how to make the turn with simple instruction. Awesome job.

This is a good video on making left turns, I get nervous sometimes when making unprotected left turns on green light, especially when there's a lot of traffic, just 3 years ago I was in an accident making a left turn on green light, I was waiting at the intersection and the light turned green, at first I thought it was safe to go so I went, there was a median in the middle of the intersection, it was that kind of intersection, while I was making the turn I ended up hitting a car that was going in the opposite direction, at first I didn't see the car, it happened so fast, by that time it was too late, of course I was at fault and I got a traffic violation, lesson learned I guess, so now I try to be careful when making a left turn especially at a green light instead of a green arrow, watching your video helps.

Thanks for the video. Here in Canada, GTA to be specific, left turns get a little tense. The person behind starts to honk pressurizing you to make the left turn, there is a never ending barrage of on coming traffic which deprives you of a safe distance to make the turn, and when you do find a window pedestrians continue use the crossing, all of which leaves you stuck in the island. Every now and then,you'll find a driver stuck in the island ending up blocking the cross traffic.
@HowSkills7 ай бұрын
I hear you...left turns can be a very difficult thing to do, especially in situations like you described. Takes a lot of patience sometimes to wait for the right moment to make your turn while trying to ignore impatient drivers around you. Dad yelled to brake so I did and that scared me away from driving for a while. Problem is, he never really explained what my error was. I am 29 just recently began driving, though I have had a license for 8 years (lot of hurdles in my life that were very difficult to overcome, I worked hard to be able to even get my license.) So I know the laws for the most part, but no one has ever taught me how to drive. I am trying to do everything I can to learn to be a better driver. I hate turning into traffic, and parking. I know how to park, but just in case I will park farther away, not in between vehicles, just in case I am the worst driver in the world. I'm confident, but caution is better than confidence with a 2 ton bullet. Everything I do feels like it is dictated by other, very rude, drivers. When they come behind me, I have to turn asap, even when I'm not comfortable, neither is it the safest. I almost caused an accident, as I almost hit another car turning into the lane next to the one I was leaving, in order to turn into their original lane. That was embarrassing and extremely dangerous. I pray that I get patient drivers who don't want to rush me into oncoming traffic. I'm trying to be better here, and I am grateful for these videos!

Sounds like you’ve worked hard and gone through a lot to get your license! I understand what you’re saying, and I wish there were more patient drivers out there. It seems like a lot of people are rushing to get where they’re going and drive very aggressively and selfishly, which makes it more dangerous for everyone. You do have to drive defensively because of this, and always watch out for the other driver. If they put you in an unsafe situation, do all you can to avoid an accident, which it sounds like is what you try to do. The more you drive and learn about driving, the better you’ll be able to handle different situations safely. It’s a good sign to me that you’re watching videos to become a better driver, and I think you’re on your way to becoming a great one! Thanks for watching, and take care.

Hey, thanks a ton Stan. Great informative video. Shall soon be visiting the states as a tourist. I am an Indian familiar with driving right-hand drive cars. Your video helps familiarize me with left-hand drive cars to a large extent. Thank you so much

Very professional video! Just wanted to add that in most european countries the traffic lights are placed only on the near side of the intersection, which means that you aren't able to see the light changing to yellow/amber after you enter the intersection, while waiting for oncoming traffic. Having the lights on the far side would definitely make things easier imo

Best video on left turns at an intersection. I was not sure about the Yellow arrow. Thanks for explaining it!

This is the best video telling the difference between green arrow and green circle light, can you make a video on turning right and going straight with cars turning towards their right.
@jayasmrmore36877 ай бұрын
Right turn signals (which are usually rare) would likely be like a left turn one, except that for right turn you are even allowed to make the turn on red signal not just yield signal.

AS A PROFESSIONAL POLICE DRIVING INSTRUCTORS, EXCELLENT VIDEO. ONLY THING I WOULD ADD IS SHOULDER CEHCKING LEFT FOR PEDESTRIANS OR CYCLISTS AFTER STOPPING IN THE INTERSECTION WAITING FOR A BREAK IN ONCOMIN TRAFFIC. NOT ALL INTERESECTIONS ARE WIDE 4-6 LANE CROSS STREEETS SOME ARE ONLY 2 LANES, SO SHOULDER CHELC LEFT IS MORE CRITICAL. I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO WATCHING MORE OF YOUR VIDEOS. GREAT EDITING AS WELL. WILL USE THESE IN MY CLass

i would like to put that sticker too.. but the doubt and fear is also there knowing there are bad drivers who wont be considerate and might use that against you even if its their fault... i pray everytime i start to drive i wont encounter such...specially on freeways.. my God, guide and protect us new drivers..

@gcfactorof7 Praying before you drive is probably something we should all do. Pray for ourselves to be patient and understanding, and pray to get the same back from other drivers. Take care and drive safe.
