Wow. What a nice sewing machine. If I had that, I would be extremely careful. “Don’t stick anything n your sewing machine or in your ear.”

While watching the segment of this video about the automatic needle threader it reminded me about mentioning the best needle threading device I've ever found. It's the combined plunger style needle threader and needle inserter. The basic design is used by various companies, and the first one I tried was a Janome branded version. It was quite expensive, and I was a little dubious, but the guy at my local sewing machine store showed me how it worked, and I was "wowed" by how easy it was. The design is quite ingenious, but it's not intuitive, so someone needs to explain how it works. The best part of all is that it can be used with any machine, and it uses "feel" rather than vision. This means you don't need to put on your reading glasses to thread a needle in your machine. It's a very simple plastic device. The main barrel has a "D" shaped hole at one end that can be used to hold a needle to insert it into the needle bar. The other end has the "Magic" that inserts the thread in the needle. It's just a long thin steel blade that has a v-notch at the end. This blade is fixed to the other end of the main body. There is also a spring loaded cylindrical plastic plunger that also mounts on the same end of the main body. This plastic plunger can retract into the main barrel, and it also supports the thin steel blade to keep it from bending. The design makes use of the fact that every needle has a groove down it's length on one side. The thin steel blade engages with this groove, and you guide the blade down the groove until it goes into the needle hole. The trick is that the plastic plunger that supports the blade also has V-notches. The plunger has a horizontal and vertical V-notch. The horizontal V-notch holds the thread, and the vertical V-notch engages with needle, and keeps the steel blade in position as it guides down the needle. It's pure genius, but very hard to describe in words. There are good KZbin videos to show how this works. Once you "Get it" about how it works, you won't use any other method. I have at least one of these by every machine I own now, even if it has it's own built in threader. It works on any machine with a needle groove, which is anything from the last 100 years or more, including industrial machines. The good news is that you can shop around for cheaper versions of the same design. My first was a Janome, but there is also a version made by Dritz that is readily available. In Canada, where I'm located, you can by them at Walmart under the Unique Creativ brand for about $6, but Walmart US doesn't seem to carry them. I've also bought cheap ones from China from Amazon for less than $2 a piece. Those ones were defective. The plastic plunger has two halves that are snapped together. The snaps were poorly molded and separate easily, causing them to jam. The good news is that I was able to solder them together using a small tip on a soldering iron. They now work as well as any of the others, but unfortunately, this is not for the average user who doesn't have the tools or the know-how.

I have a Janome like this. I’ve had it about 10 years and I still love it. I’ve never had it serviced because there isn’t any service men close. It still runs beautifully though I’m sure it needs the inside cleaned and oiled. I’m too afraid to do it myself.

@@apiecemaker1163 blast it out occasionally with some compressed air (in the cans that you can get at Walmart) for cleaning keyboards and such. Just blow it out to the left and use your tweezers to pick out the chunks that won’t let go. Put some oil in the center wick on your hook assembly. I have a video showing how it’s done. 😎👍

I love your videos. I have a Janome 3160 QDC and I have a problem of the bobbin cashing breaking. I have replaced the thing twice this month. Not the first 2 times either. It does have a thread cutter. I thought that was the culprit. But I was just sewing and I heard a big crunch and sure enough it shifted again and broke the little finger off at the top. It sews great when it is sewing. I have taken it in and they said it was fine. I have paid more in repairs then I did for the machine and it was not one of the cheap one. What do you think may be wrong with it.

@@DianaSmithMB the position bracket isn’t set properly or the thread is too heavy. Just a long distance guess. The thread could be jumping out of the tension discs in the assembly. You might check between the discs for lint or fuzz. Good luck 🍀.
