I've had my turtle Loki for 16 years since i was 8 years old. She went thru some nasty tanks in her early years cuz I was a kid and didn't know anything, i just found her in a lake and took her home. She was the size of a quarter and now she's damn near 8 inches long. She knows her name, and points to her food when she's hungry lol. When i take her out side she follows me everywhere and just chills near me just like a dog. Turtles are amazing and they are hearty creatures but i think a well balanced diet is important too, she eats sun dried shrimp, pellets, fresh fish, and her favorite fruits and veggies like bananas, romaine lettuce, grapes, and apples.

I agree with having the tank set up in advance. In some cases in the US municipal water sources are not that great for turtles or fish (it may be ok for us to drink, but we don’t have to live in it). I prefer to get the tank going, add water conditioner and maybe some beneficial bacteria just to get the process kick started and let the filter run for a while and do it’s thing. If you are going to be keeping fish with your turtle either add the fish in the beginning and do a “fish in” cycle or add them later after the tank has cycled naturally.

I always leave a tank up for at least 1 day to make sure everything is fine unless it’s major such as putting rescue turtles in. It’s definitely good to be on the safe side especially if you’re a beginner with turtles in my opinion

I’d say this turtles in the wild will live in the nastiest filthiest water trust me I catch red eared slider hatchlings every year I also catch snapping turtles I have a turtle permit and from years of keeping turtles I’d say about 15 years they will be fine with any tap water . Even a rescue if they have any cuts or wounds the tap water helps keep it clean.

Hey! I love all your videos. They’ve really been a life saver as I figure out how to care for my turtle well. My biggest struggle as a turtle owner is finding all the supplies and decor. Even the Petsmart turtle section seems so small (at least in canada where I am). I would just love more options for basking areas to attach to my tank. Since you know so much about turtle needs I totally recommend you start your own turtle supplies shop- that would be where I would shop 100%. Haha just a suggestion. Thanks for all your help!

Quick question. I am moving my turtle to a new bigger tank. Someone recommended I take the filter media from my old tank and move it to my new tanks filter. That way it would help With the nitrogen cycle. However, at a recommendation from a vet from issue that is being fixed (turtle is ok and getting better, I did a full deep clean of the old tank and filter I had. That was 4 days ago. If I’m setting up my new filter in the new tank today (fluval 405 in new tank, some in tank filter in the old one) and plan on leaving the filter to run for 3 days before adding my turtle. Filter has 2 media containers of activated carbon and 2 media containers of fluval biomax with 4 fluval foam filter things in the cartridge spots. I also plan on adding my new water heater and inkbird heater controller on Tuesday. That way the tank filters for 4 days and is heated for 2 days prior to adding Speedy. Question is, do I have to add the old filter media to the new filter if i just did a deep clean 4 days ago? I’d like to think it has no nitrogen cycle since I cleaned the filter. Thank you so much in advance for your response. Just popped into your videos and they have been IMMENSELY helpful!!!

hi!! two days ago me and my family found this adult slider turtle in our garden, we already brought her to the vet that told us she's very healthy. We decided to keep her in our garden, we built her a pretty big enclosure that's very closed off. For now she has a tiny pool to swim in but we will definitely buy a bigger pool for her since she is VERY big. The sun shines well on the enclosure so she will definitely be getting the light she needs, though, I'm not sure if it's good to leave a turtle outside like that, and how big the pool should be since, as I said, she's particularly big. if you have any tips to give us please do!! I'd like to give my turtle a good life ❤️ thank you for your videos :)
@samubluu_2 жыл бұрын
@@annie-ek1vu she is not a wild turtle. We went to the vet and the vet told us that she's not only most definitely a pet but she's also an invasive species here where I live. It would be very weird for her to be a wild turtle also because she's a slider turtle, meaning she naturally lives in freshwater and we have no sight of any kind of pond nearby. We decided to give her away to a farm with a turtle pond because the vet said that it's a nice place for turtles to live, she was way too big for us to take care of Please don't speak when you don't know the details, if we left her in my garden she would have gotten hit by a car (also because we found her in the middle of the road to our garden) But seriously, you don't even know how big my garden is!! (Spoiler: it's huge.) So stop giving me advice please :)

I don’t even use a tank. My sister bought a turtle around 14 years ago and left it with when it was about 2 years old. The turtle lived in a tank when it was still tiny but now it just goes around our yard. We feed it some days and some days (or weeks) it “disappears” since it likes to eat fruits under our fruit trees and random animals like snails, insects, and even a bird one time 🤢 How bad is it that we let it roam free? It seems happy enough and goes to our kitchen and looks at us when it’s hungry…

I am struggling to get my tank back in order. The nitrites have been very high for the last few weeks. I'm doing the weekly partial water changes, but it's not helping. I've had her for about 3 months, from a hatching, so not sure why all of a sudden I'm having this issue. Not sure what to do.

I don't know how but my tank got parasites. I have 3 filers on my tank and I do a weekly water change. I decided to change the substrate from sand to tile since the parasites like to live in the sand.

He has a water heater a filter a basking spot plants and is on a reptimin pellet and krill diet. Recently while moving his plants I noticed algae on some of his rocks. I proceeded to take the rocks with algae out of his tank until I clean it again. Also recently i noticed some small white patches on his shell. They are like under his scutes. If possible can i send you a picture somewhere? I really hope this isn’t shell rot but i’d like a more experienced turtle owner to confirm this! please help !!! :(((

@truthfactreality68142 жыл бұрын
You do need to cycle a turtle tank. Ammonia is deadly. Weekly water changes are essential for turtles.
@TheTurtleGirl2 жыл бұрын
all true statements...the fact is that the cycling will happen once the animal gets added...my point is you just don't need to do a "turtless"/"fishless" cycle because the process happens naturally once the animal starts pooping/eating in there. I'm all for weekly water changes!
