i was a planted aquarium and fish keeper for years and you really should not clean your filters at all. but i’m happy that you mentioned you should clean it in the tank water. NEVER run your bio active filters through tap water. the chlorine kills the bacteria immediately. you should also rarely change all of the water. you should be doing 25% every 2 weeks. and always add the bacteria and de chlorinator back in afterwards.

fish keeping is slightly different then house many turtle, turtles put out huge amounts of waste, and shed their scutes as well which clog filters. But yes you should treat tap water, or at least remove filter media when cleaning filter pads. As turtle owners we need to clean them due to the amount of shed turtle skin that go into them

+1 to his comment about turtles. If I didn't clean my filter, it would slow to a trickle as it gets clogged

Very interesting. I was considering getting an aquarium of some kind just to entertain my dragons, and I had a hunch it would be a whole other project in and of itself. This is great information!

it is, but with a good filter the work is much easier

Sounds very similar to keeping a fresh water fish aquarium. I looked into keeping turtles because they are so fun to watch. However, after seeing all the work that goes into keeping them, I decided to just enjoy other people's turtles. Take care. ~Gina

If you have a lot, or large turtles there is some major filtering needed. its nor horrible though, I clean it twice a year takes about 45min

Will rule of thumb that I have before I ever put water in my tank any of my tanks I use dechlorinator the chlorinator takes away the chlorine that's in our tap water so therefore it's not killing any of that bacteria and I use the turtle dechlorinator or reptile decorator for my reptiles and my turtles and I use the fishy stuff for my fish because my reptiles don't need a slime coat stuff in it so just a little thing that I do works better than putting straight tap water into my tanks I have buckets for my tanks nothing else gets put into him love your content by the way I live in Michigan too but I live in Saginaw
@Animal1Guy2 жыл бұрын
yes good rule of thumb, some times you want to use tap water to kill good and bad to do a deep clean and then will just add more good bacteria. thankfully since we can buy bacteria thats good its ok etc.

We have a 75 gallon tank I'm trying to clean the cloudiness, I don't fill my tank all the way because I want her to be able to bask with her lamp so far we had for 15 years I like 4 inches of water I might add a little but not gonna fill it because I don't want her under water constantly am I wrong but she's thriving she's huge, red eared slider .

Thank You!! Love all your reptile video's of the Beardies & Monitors but I have a Painted Turtle. When you do a educational video about aquatic-semi aquatic Turtles it's beyond helpful!!! I use the Tetra Declorinater but didn't know they make one with added good bacteria. Let's just say our big box stores here don't stock much in the way of decent Turtle Supplies. I have run into more Turtle owners at 7-11 buying red worms than at a pet store. (just sad) Hope to see more Turtle content if possible? My Fav's are Johnny Cage & Tortollini Just Little Rock stars!!!

What would you say are the best west coast breeders for albino leopard geckos and bearded dragons? Also what are good brands and sizes for both practical but also aesthetically pleasing, “ready to go straight out of the box” glass front vivariums for both a leopard gecko and a bearded dragon? I’m really interested in starting a small reptile collection and really want my animals to both thrive but also look very nice like as if they’re on display in my home. Fortunately I have a great exotic vet nearby. I just don’t know of quality breeders or sites to buy from and don’t want to resort to Craigslist. I’m specifically in CA. And being a reptile newbie, I’m not sure of great sites/breeders or brands of vivariums to purchase as I truly do want my animals to show as if they are the work of art that they are. Overtime would love to add more reptiles to a small reptile family, but I definitely want to start with something easier like an albino leopard gecko and bearded dragon, I know the morphs can get confusing and I’m not sure how well health wise they will do - but I’m especially drawn to the black and red monster dragons that you see here and there on KZbin or Reddit.

Really love your videos, love your rescues. They really teach me so much I wouldn’t have otherwise known. I think at this point I’ve been through almost all your videos -‘d have been learning so much. I find it interesting that in one video you were talking about your mother being a nurse and having a stethoscope, and it’s funny cause you’ve turned your passion for animals into healing animals, similar to your mom healing people as a nurse. You do great work and I just can’t stop watching your videos! Love all the content and it would be awesome to see a video with your entire collection or reptile room. You’re definitely helping me learn more and more about other various reptiles I would love having. Thanks 💜

I dont sadly know the quality of any breeders. i have made videos talking about tank setups, but I havent looked into many more. I use exo terra for some they seem good, I know there are so many others. But when your doing a lot of tanks in 1 room there are more things that come into play. Total heat of the rooms temp etc, then the tank will need to vent more etc. There isnt normally a 1 tank fits all situation. The first thing I did is plan the room I was going to be housing them in and monitor its air temp, how the heat/ac went in that room etc.

@@Animal1Guy so I’m really after the dark black and red monster beardie, however due to their currently poor genetics, I know there are ethical breeders trying to outcross with other red dragons with stronger genetics to work out the issues associated with this red monster which apparently was a completely accidental morph that got created and then exploded allover, everyone wants one and they’re quite expensive but sadly a lot of them don’t live a long healthy bearded dragon lifespan, and I don’t want that. I know of some ethical breeders trying to outcross with other red dragons with much stronger genetics to help improve the quality of life. One breeder said that while you can get a 50% red monster right now… He’s working on outcrossing to completely negate the poor genetics that cause so many red monsters to die under 6 months of age. He says it’s a process but by outcrossing and then finally getting a solid morph, the black could be resaturated in to create a very similar black and red beardie. Probably a 2 year process. So while I sit on that, I definitely would love to start off with something simple, beautiful, and small, a leopard gecko. I actually read that you can co-hab 2 females in one enclosure given adequate size. I’d be keeping them in the living room area, and my hedgies are currently in 2 bin cages while Im making waterproof non-toxic more spacious front opening glass or plexiglass door hutches for them. Those would eventually be in he living room as well as the geckos. I have the AC to auto turn on to 72 degrees a a certain time of day when it gets hot. And then it will turn on and off as needed to have that desired temp range of the apartment, and CHEs for the hedgies with their thermostats set between 72-80 degrees, so the AC being on a daily schedule to auto kick on as it heats up has been really helpful, as we’ve been having a heat wave. But the living room gets the least amount of the AC. I’m currently working on waterproof non-toxic hutches for the hogs that would be in the living room along with the leopard geckos. Currently have my eye on the Snow, Mack Super Snow, and the Blizzard as I read that given proper enclosure space, 2, not so sure about 3 can be housed together. The living room does get some AC and it also has a ceiling fan, we also have tower fans. Since it gets hot at night and don’t run the AC all night so I have a tower fan directed at the hedgie bin cages to keep them within the 72-80 degree range. I’m just wondering what the best temps for leopard geckos would be, wouldn’t mind getting creative and trying to make my own enclosure with a rock wall using expanding foam cause I really want a cool looking setup with some foliage for the geckos but also something really suited to their specific needs. I’m doing my best to research all their requirements prior to getting any but just curious if you had an suggestions for a front opening tank that can be customized to really show them off. Haha I don’t know why I keep having my eyes set on nocturnal animals. First the hogs, now he leopard geckos haha but they are beautiful and sound like a really good starter reptile. So I just wanna give them the best possible setup with front opening doors, while also really showcasing them. I need to do more research into what would work best as well as the importance of their temp ranges and humidity so I’m not going in blind and getting an improper setup for them.

You are absolutely correct. My turtle is 21yo (Mississippi turtle) and I am using this product since I discovered it, like 10 years ago. It simply works. I also use another one to keep algae controlled. Very nice video. Thanks ;-)

Hey so I’m a long time subscriber and patreon member of your channel. I was wondering if you could lay off a small channel Chuck Norris/z that you are currently trying to ban so that you can take all the money from the views. This guy is a small time channel. Has two dragons - both rescues and he was just trying to make a few compilation videos to get his numbers to make a little bit of money for his 2 animals. He doesn’t have much and I already provide him with free roaches. He took the videos down but you are hell bent at destroying his channel and he is a good guy!
