I sunburned my recovering orchid that only had two leaves. It had stem rot and 1 aerial root and thanks to your advice, two new leaves are growing in. I'm still thinking she'll make it.

I listened to you a few years ago when you suggested NOT to move the orchids around. I've got a lot of huge leaves and flowers the last two years. Thanks Girl!!

Reminds me of when I brought my tiny cactus inside over winter, I kept it under my led lights, a little too close to one orchid. She got scratches on a leaf when I moved her to water her. For cleaning glass, I find a two wipe method to work best for me. A towel only wet with water, and a dry, very clean towel. The dry towel doesn’t leave any streaks. And I did finish my lunch while watching this video!

Interesting. I don’t have grow lights but I’ll definitely keep this info on my mind. I noticed your flower spikes don’t have those sticks and little clips to keep the flower spike straight. Do you recommend letting the flower spike lean over, or is it ok to clip them to a stick keeping them straight up?
@chemenginecat3940
@chemenginecat3940 3 жыл бұрын
MOG has some videos on flower spikes that might be helpful. You can use the clips to train your spikes to go whichever way you want, but beware they are easy to snap. I like to use sticks and clips when the spike gets really long. I had one spike collapse and fall over because the flowers were so heavy. Held it back up with some sticks and it’s still growing now.

Wow. After I posted this I saw another video where MOG has her pots stacked up and the picked fence looking things and just let’s them hang down. I’m new to the hobby but a month ago I was in a local nursery and saw the flowers and I tripped out. Just beautiful. So I bought 3 and am nursing 2 more my daughter gave me. Never knew there are sooo many different kinds. I’ve liked many of MOG,s videos so I can watch them over and over.

9:52 The reason I'm here is because my very beautiful, robust, thriving Orchid has some strange spots on its leaves. They are small, thankfully, and have some brown, yellow and a little white. There's one that is chicken pox shaped and is only whitish. So weird! About 2 weeks ago, I'd set my orchid up to dry after watering it by the grow light I'm using for my Frizzle Sizzle. I didn't think it would be a problem, but it was sitting pretty close to the light. One leaf turned completely yellow almost immediately (w/in about 18 hours post exposure). I didn't leave my orchid there indefinitely. I moved it further from the light after it stopped leaking from its watering but didn't want to put it back in the regular window because I watered it at night, and we were getting below zero temps! Anyway, because the yellow leaf wasn't near the bottom, I knew there had to have been a problem with the grow light. The spots it's developed since then weren't there (or I hadn't noticed them?) when I removed the yellow leaf. I have it its regular watering tonight, and was very worried about these spots! I was so worried it was infected with something that would kill it. Total panic! After watching this, I am 98% sure my grow light was the cause of the leaf damage. I only hope they will recover and not get worse. BTW, my orchid is an "only orchid" which was given to me over 2 years ago as a gift from my daughter. I definitely don't want it to die. 🙂

Really interesting video, Thanks a lot for sharing! About the bugs: it happened to see the same little bugs and some sort of webs around the leaves of my mini roses plant; this is not the first time it happens and two years ago the same bugs attacked also the flower of one of my phaelanopsis. At the time I tried to solve by washing leaves and branches with an organic pesticide. It' s been necessary to wash twice the orchid, unfortunately the flowers didn't survive but the plant recovered and is still happy :)

My orchids are doing well, I think I'll be moving them closer to the windows in about a month or so. I do have a few minor sunburns from last summer, I am quite proud I managed to not get them burned this year. 😆 The one I have, that I presume is a bronze maiden, is doing well too, I saved it while it was dehydrated and the flowers looked horrendous back around new year. It's been growing a lot of new roots and it's grown 2 leaves since I got it. No sign of a flower spike yet, but I have not lost hope, I'm not expecting it for maybe another 6 months to a year (I am looking forward to seeing it in bloom). And I had one with the newest leaf that just decided it wasn't going to grow anymore, then it withered and died. I managed to pull it off recently, it had finally dried enough it was ready to let go, I'm not sure it will ever grow a new leaf. It wasn't caused by rot or anything I could identify. It was only the newest leaf, the rest still look good. It made a basal keiki about 10 months ago and that is thriving, it's nearly bigger than the mother plant at this point, growing it's 3rd and 4th roots (they've come in pairs with about 4 months in between).

Talking about holiday, how to keep the orchid alive when traveling for 1 month? Is there any way besides asking someone to water them? Thanks! 😊

Ana, I would water & fertilize, drain well, make sure it gets enough light and air circulation, and don’t worry. 😘

One month might be too long even if you water right before you leave. Depends on how often you water normally. Mine are around once a week, so 3 weeks without watering would not be good. You could try adding some sphagnum moss to the mix to retain water a little longer, but I’d want to see how long it will keep them moist before I left. Self watering is an option depending on the type of orchid. Plant sitters are becoming popular now too!

I'm gutted, I think I've killed my best orchid! I moved it from my unused ensuite to our main bathroom whilst our shower was down...turned out it must've been too humid. 😔 Now all leaves dropped off. I have a couple of roots, mainly aerial. I've repotted. Is it likely to survive? xx

I had a mishap or two happen in my orchid room recently. My Angraceum Sesquipedale was hanging on a command hook, & it came crashing down, knocking over 3 to 4 others in the process. I also had to cut off a bacterial wet spot off my variegated Sideria Japonica Minimaru, & it was the newest leaf too 💔😵 It's refreshing to know that the orchid queen of the universe is human as well 😂 Also - I'm so jealous of the size of your Eoceoclades!!

I am so sad to here that this happened to your orchids. I did burn a few of mine last week because I changed the place I live and didn't have any common sense and put them on a terrace where it was too hot and they got a lot of burns. I think few of them will die and it makes me so sad. Please help me with some advice. I cut out the dead parts of the leaves but I think now there is infection going thru the hole plants. Is it reversable?

Does anyone in this community know how long I should leave my grow lights on? The settings are 4 hours, 8 hours, and 12 hours. I currently have it scheduled to start at 8:00 AM until 12:00 AM, because that is when their space gets more natural light. Should I keep it on for longer, keep doing what I'm doing, etc?
