Oh girl you are a life saver. Specifically, you have saved the life of my purple phalaenopsis Princess Bloomaria. Story time! I found Princess B 4 months ago at the grocery store and it was love at first sight. She was a big girl with 10 leaves and 4 mid bloom flower spikes. Gorgeous bright purple flowers and purple crowning on all the leaf rims. My heart still skips a beat when I think of the moment I found her. She was a absolute steel at $15. I brought her home and introduced her to my husband as his new competition for attention. I put her in my magic sunroom. Found your videos and settled in for some obsessive info consumption. Well I'm glad I did because she started presenting her Royal needs almost immediately. What I first thought was perlite in her pot, Turned out to be a nasty fungal infection. One of her leaves broke out with edema. She started showing signs of dehydration, and worst of all she had thripes and scaly bugs 😱. She was determined to prioritize her blooms And managed to open all the buds. The day the last bloomed opened coincided with the day I got my repotting supplies in. I told her I loved her and removed all her flower spikes, I knew she had to focus on recovery. It took me an hour and a half to repot her, her roots were a mess and she still had her nursery plug. All of your tips and advice led to a successful repot and treatment of fungus and pest. I put her Bloom spikes in a vase and they lasted a month. Princess B is recovering nicely and is halfway through growing a new leaf. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

What a great video! I "rescue" orchids from places like restaurants, offices, and friends who purchased or received orchids as gifts and had no real interest in pursuing information on their care. Orchids are really trendy in my town right now, and people just buy them and throw them away when they stop flowering. This video was really valuable in helping me decide which ones to take home (like perhaps avoiding ones with a virus or spider mites) and how to deal with them when I get there.

I'm a newbie at keeping orchids. I've had one or two in the past and failed them miserably. Then several weeks ago the shop where I work had some beauties (Phals) arrive and I thought I'd try again, so bought two. I came home and searched KZbin for growing info and found your channel. Yay! Your vids are SO informative and I've watched several . Now I know where I'd been going wrong in the past, and what I need to do this time to hopefully have happy, productive plants. I bought two more today! Thanks so much for sharing your extensive knowledge with us, it's invaluable.

Hi Dani! I received a phal as a gift this past summer and I followed the "instructions for care" on the card it came with. Well, the blooms wilted quickly and a bottom leaf was yellowing- I thought I killed it until I found your videos. She has since been repotted, two new leaves (and I think, roots) are coming in and I added two new orchids to my collection - a brassavola and dendrobium. Thank you so much for these videos!! You saved my orchid's life and made mine that much greener! 💖 P.S. I love Repot Me and get all my stuff there now!

Thank you for this video. I have a white and pink phal that was developing purple in the leaves and I was thinking it had to do with the exposure to light. I found a new spot for it with less direct light. I was cautious because it has been exploding with new growth since repotting it a few months ago. It didn't flower this year but that's ok because I had an accident and had to repot it around the time it should of flowered. I'm glad to have some reassurance that moving it was the right move. I had a question though. I got an orchid about 3 years ago that I have had rot issues with since getting it. The original orchid died but created a cakey. I have separate the cakey and now have the young plant in a new pot with new medium. It immediately grew a flower spike after repotting but I'm noticing one leave is small and one has two patches on it. I am very careful about watering this orchid. The black spot is at the edges and this orchid was possible recieving too much sun. The center of the black patches are yellow. Is this rot or a burn. I have moved the orchid out of the too bright spot but should I cut the leave? And the I do have new root growth but this orchid is not as happy as the first one I talked about. Should I cut the flower spike in order to help this orchid?

Your videos have been so helpful. A few weeks ago, I bought an orchid from the grocery store. Within a week of getting it home, it dropped off all of its leaves and was like...That's it. I'm done. I'm dying. I started doing research and ended up getting some Miracle Gro orchid bark and got rid of the old moss that the orchid was jammed into. Also got some orchid-friendly pots. It was SUPER soggy and killed a bunch of the roots. The orchid is doing so much better and even started growing two new leaves and a root. One question though--one of the new leaves has a bad brown spot right down the middle of it. It stopped shortly after I repotted the orchid. Should I be okay to leave that alone? It's a pretty long brown spot. The other baby leave has barely started poking through. I'm just thinking the grocery store was super hard on the orchid. The store replaced it though after I told them what happened, and my second orchid is growing like crazy after I put it in the new medium. It's still blooming too. I'm half wondering if I can get a keiki lol!

I love your videos, they are very informative. I have a few orchids and your channel has made caring for them easy. I just have one question on my oldest Phal, she has recently developed dark green patches under her leaves on the edges. Her leaves are glossy and are very healthy and she has grown three new leaves and many new roots after loosing her blooms. I wanted to ask if you think this is normal. It is going into winter here. I fertilize her regularly and water her weekly when she requires and she gets adequate lighting.

Hi Dani! I love your videos! One of the leaves on my phal (not a bottom leaf but right above it) is browning/yellowing from the middle of the leaf and almost feels squishy. None of the other leaves are suffering from this. The root system looks very healthy and is even growing a ton of new roots! I am just concerned with that leaf. I water it when the media is dry so I don’t think I’m over watering. Also I’ve gotten it to bloom however there are only 2 blooms. How can I get it to bloom more flowers? Again your videos are so helpful and entertaining.

The information that You have here is very extensive and useful. I would like to ask about leaves - a question You haven't addressed here - I have a few plants and the ones, I have been having for a longer time (more than few years), have developed black tips on their leaves (looks like being exposed to fire) . I saw on this video that some of Yours have this very same thing, but You didn't mention that. Do You know what could be the cause? Thanks in advance! 🙏

Thank you so much! One of my phals has very dark purple bits on it's leaves, but it is in the same environment with my other phals (which do not) . Even though this video is a few years old ... it came to my rescue!!! I have a keiki phal, and I noticed that the top leaves got a sort of greyish/purplish hue, but the roots and stem are still green and healthy! It even has new root nubs poking out from the main stem. Then after viewing this video, I realised that the two upper leaves, including a new one have a "slight" sunburn (I thought it was a dreaded virus because of the discolouration!), because I did forget the orchid in the direct sun for a couple hours a few weeks ago (hiding my face in shame here - I was re-arranging plants on a new stand). I also did notice that a tiny new leaf is beginning to poke its head out as well. I leave my orchids outside on my porch where they are shaded from direct Caribbean sun, and sometimes they do get a spray of Caribbean rain water, when the rains are heavy. I am so relieved!! Thank you Danni.

Thank you so much for your guidance (new here and Subbed💮). Btw, the orchid-fellows in the comments below tell their stories about how they found, saved or bought their orchids, so here's mine. It was a lovely day, near Christmas time and I found this unbloomed medium-sized orchid outside of my entrance. A few days ago it starts to bloom beautifully, such a unique purple pattern on a white background with a slightly yellowish hue in the middle of the flower. Each one has distinct patterns on the petals 🥰. • The true elegance So unique, so delicate The Orchids.

Hi! I got a phalaenopsis a year ago which was repotted after the flower spike dried. Three of the oldest leaves fell down and now it's finally growing a new leaf. Unfortunately when it appeared i saw that it is kind of white coloured (something between white and green). I waited a few weeks for it to grow and i realised that it's even dry. Other three older leaves are in really good codition (they are green and stiff) and the orchid is even having a flowers right now. What do you think it can be? I though it was the virus you were talking in this video about but wouldn't other older leaves be affected too?

Thank you for a great video! I was wondering if, when a plant is growing a new leaf, is it healthy if that new leaf has a slightly paler center than the darker green tips and edges? It looks healthy in every way...turgid and plump, but i was wondering if it might need more fertilizer, or is this just a normal coloring? Or perhaps a light issue? Or nothing?

Hi Dani, I’ve watched a few of your phalaenopsis videos and can’t find an answer.....I have a nice spot on my patio for orchids. They seem to like it there. However, there is some creature that takes bites out of phalaenopsis leaves! Leaves other orchids alone! Is there something I could put near the plant or on the plant that will make that bug leave them alone? They have been moved inside on my sink, where they are fine. No more bites! But I’d like them to go back out in the fresh air, especially between blooms.

I received a phal that had been sat in an office window and rarely watered and tended to. I've repotted it and it's growing a strong thick new leaf. It had six old leaves, all of which droop over the side of the pot and are rather limp. The lowest leaves are wrinkled and leathery and are the limpest. The roots are healthy and it's actively growing aerial roots. I'm assuming the damage was done to the leaves through a lack of watering. Will they stay limp even though I'm watering and fertilizing now regularly. The leaves are green with a few dry brittle edges here and there. Should I remove them or not?

Long time lurker, first time posting. Thanks for the great video. There are a couple other things I am wondering about... What about when a phalaenopsis leaf splits at the crown? Is this similar to the split lower down the leaf? Could this also be what causes leaves to look jagged or corrugated along the edges? I really appreciated seeing the spider mites. How do you know once they are gone if all you can see is the symptoms and not the mites themselves? Last question, could you please share what scale would look like on phalaenopsis leaves? Thank you!

I have a few phals I picked up on clearance. Most had root rot to some degree. I have treated the root rot, re-potted in an LECA/bark mix; I water when dry. I put sphagnum moss on the existing exposed roots (most have 1 or 2 healthy roots) which I keep moist. All are sprouting new little root "buds" but the leaves are still looking sad, droopy, thin, and a little leathery. How long will it take before the plant recovers? Or is the ongoing leaf droopiness cause for concern? I am assuming they aren't getting enough water via the one or two small roots they have left, but I'm not sure what else I can do other than the moist moss.

I need help! I received a min full blood orchid in perfect condition and I put 1 teeny ice cube for the week and this week my co worker said I need to “flush” the orchid once a month and that I should do it so she took the orchid and wet the whole root (yesterday) and today my orchids leave are brown it looks like it’s burnt at the tips.. the soil is still wet what can I do without causing too much stress on my poor baby... one thing is for sure I’m taking my baby home

Never use ice cubes on a tropical orchid. One ice cube is a MEASUREMENT of how much tepid water to use. Use a shot glass of tepid water (neither hot nor cold, but at room temperature) to give your new baby a drink when it is nearly dry.

Hello I love your channel and I love orchids my partner bought one and I thought I was awful with house plans and it turns out all the other plants were the wrong plant for me 😂. Anyway I have a question my orchid is very happy It has 10 no lie 10 large leaves but no flowers this year. I give it orchid fertilizer at the beginning of each month and water it once a week exactly like your videos its lighting is what you instructed like it said its happy... just no flowers... is there something I could be doing better ❤❤❤

Hello there, I have been watching a lot of your videos in order to know how to treat, save and repair my orchids. All your instructions are working perfectly with all my nine orchids. I have just one question: I have one orchid that is growing a new leave, but it stopped growing about two months ago. it is still very little, like almost two inches. it is bright green, it looks healthy, but it is not developing anymore. What should I do? Thank you, Claudia

I agree, great video, very informative. How can i send you a picture? I have an orchid that i bought 15 plus years ago and it has Never flowered, i have no idea what it is. Maybe you could identify it and tell me the proper way to take care of it so it will bloom.

1 more question: is it normal or healthy if you can see the "cells" inside the leaves?

Thank you for the information concerning blisters on the leaves. I’m relieved to know they’re not a virus or infection!

I just moved into a new home and someone left a orchid with purple leaves outside. It is covered in black and blue patches. And I put ice cubes by the stem and cinnamon as a natural fungicide for the patches that was put on the leaves. It is winter here so should I keep the orchid inside or outside when it rains?

Hi, actually there are many things you could learn about them, check my tutorial here kzbin.info/www/bejne/g5TIXqGba7OsgpI as for your orchid, water with lukewarm or room temperature water, the ice cube situation is just a marketing stunt, it can damage roots. Keep the orchid in warmth, if you feel good inside your home, it will feel ok too, they enjoy temperate conditions. I like to call them house pets, they are man made hybrids with the intent to do well in window sills. No direct sunlight, but bright shade. Hope this helps you start out, good luck!
