Serious & dangerous driving test faults www.driving-school-beckenham....
Vanessa has been learning to drive with a different school and has a driving test coming up in a few days. She wants to do a realistic mock driving test to see how test ready she is and if she ne needs many more driving lessons.
If you're taking driving lessons and have a driving test coming up soon then hopefully this video will help with the learning to drive process.

I passed my driving test 3 days ago. It was my 4th test. And after 3 failed driving tests it was a very depressing time. But that's all changed now. After a whole year I've finally passed my test with only 5 minors and earned my right to drive. You just gotta stay focused on the road and remember your training and make a habit out of checking your mirrors changing to first gear as you slow down and always believe in miracles.

You come across very clam, polite and understanding but informative. I had a male driving instructor who was great at the beginning, but then literally tried to make my theory test run out, blocked my progress by making me cancel several driving tests. He just switched up . Began saying he was on holiday for 4 weeks, I would then have two sessions, then he was on holiday for 3 weeks. I paid on time, attended 95% of my lessons. Never missed a payment. I was polite and keen to learn. He just made it really difficult, I got rid of him at the last min with time lacking on my side to pass because he would never do the things or meet me half way to practice my weaknesses. In the end depleted all of self confidence by comments he would make, so with 3 months to go before my theory ran out I booked my test within the 3rd month. The final straw was when he tried to sabbotage me, I felt held hostage, he said "if you go ahead with this I will inform them at the test centre I am not agreeing for you to use my car and I am not approving to say you are test ready. I will also contact the DVLA. I was really shocked, never did anything to him, but pay my money on time and book 1.5hour sessions at £32.50 a piece. I had weekly sessions. I got rid of him, desperately found another instructor running out of time. I had a further 20 sessions with her, something I had left with him, did test and passed. Never feel hostage with your own money. Seek someone that can teach you without a hidden agenda. I tell you my driving experience was the worst until I met a lovely instructor who saw my potential, worked on my known weaknesses without arguments and unknown. I passed because of her attitude. No negativity.

One of her problems is that she feeds the steering wheel. This is not necessary and is more dangerous then letting the wheel self centre itself but keeping the hands touching it. This is allowed and avoids her drifting wide when going around corners

It's the people that do a mock driving test, 8 hours of intense driving, and aren't afraid to say they aren't confident at something that don't end up saying 'they failed me because they didn't like me!!!!' when they fail their real test. Someone at work said they were forced to do 3 reverse parallel parks and he did them all perfectly but was still failed because the instructor had to fill a quota for the day. I just nodded and smiled.

I think she needs a lot more practice on observations and just being generally aware of what’s around her at all times. I suspect she’s pulling away with just the clutch which is why she’s pulling off very slowly at some junctions. Clutch control on hills needs some work. I think there were a few times when she she was on the brake and clutch and and coming up very high on clutch as you could hear it creaking. It really gives me anxiety how fast she’s approaching some of those junctions. I can see she’s looking but I’m not sure she’s actually processing what she sees. I think she needs more lessons and possibly some private practice, nothing like no duel controls to suddenly have to take full responsibility.

@@surferdave364 very true, atleast in my experience anyway, but then I have been behind the wheel of far more diesels than petrols. Another thing though is most modern manuals (or at the very least… modern Fords, I have one) tend to auto apply a small amount of gas for you if you try to clutch control a pull away. Good video Chris and I'm glad you're still having more. It was interesting to see another reason for dangerous faults, especially for me as I did exactly the same thing on one lesson, although my instructor only grabbed steering and I almost hit 3 cars at a left turn. I would just like to ask Chris, on my lesson last week learning like a mock test my instructor told me I would have failed for going wrong way. I was in 2 lanes, the sat Nav said right at roundabout but the right hand lane was busy and I saw road marking say left only. I signeled correctly but my instructor said that was a fail why didn't I try to slow down and go to right lane even though the speed limit was high and traffic was behind. Please let me know in my comment what you think as it may help me and good luck other videos.

It can be very hard to drive a new car and in a new area and like Vanessa with no SATnav experience. Lessons should incorporate SATnav driving. In your own area you know where the zebra crossing is, but in new areas you have to watchout for them. Manual is also harder too.

I'm guessing Vanessa didn't pass the following Friday. I failed my first test with one dangerous and zero minors which was super frustrating but I went on to pass with only 2 minors so its not the end of the world, I never had a mock test to get the nerves out of the way, so I hope Vanessa took that and really fixed her issues. It does suck when you've spent over 30 hours on lessons but its always best to be safe than sorry because she had so many close calls.

Unfortunately no. :( I had to follow road signs and got confused between a direction (thought I was going the wrong way) - decided to make a sharp turn and ended up getting 1 serious fault but 0 minors. 7:00 This type of zebra looks like there is insufficient space beyond before the roundabout. We want to avoid stopping on the crossing and if possible do the two decisions pedestrian crossing and roundabout in one committed move provided visibility is available. If they have put a zebra this close to approaching a roundabout from our approach exit there is a strong possibility another will be at our exit particularly as we see a queue on the roundabout waiting to use the exit before the one we want all waiting at another zebra. Some roundabouts have zebras on every exit.

Hi Chris! I've had about 8 hours of lessons and I've heard conflicting info about position of the hands when steering tightly. Some (often older) people say you should thread the wheel whereas others say it's ok to cross your arms. Could you please clear this up from a driving test perspective?
@worlddriving
@worlddriving 4 жыл бұрын
Hi! The examiner on your test wants to make sure that when you turn left for example, that you steer smoothly, safely and accurately (don't swing out wide or hit the kerb). You won't get any faults for crossing your arms.

Is this an actual test route?!😳 omg it's so easy. I live in Coventry and the pass rate is low we have to tackle BIG roundabouts with 4 lanes with one of the exists is to the M6 so that's a no go zone the other exists goes up to 50 and 70 mph😭 we also have to drive on the slip road to merge on to the dual carriageway. Most of the time on the dual carriageway we have to overtake other vehicles to show confidence, lot's of mini double roundabouts too!😩

Janice Royce, I hear you and your right. I live quite away from Coventry, decided to buy my car your end 11 days after passing. I was so grateful I had purchased a Sat Nav on route to the car lot. I test drove the car late evening and by the time all the paperwork was done, it was dark. I had to follow the sales man to the petrol station, then he was suppose to guide me towards the M6, he went like lightening as was not going onto it. I had to take the plunge. It was frightening but a experience, I am grateful for. I passed just before the new driving test came into play with a satnav etc. Good luck. I hated roundabouts, still do but I can do them now, big or small. You will have your day.

Not from the UK. I was told by my instructor Never ever feed the wheel because it doesn't give you enough control over the car (turn radius) Also I got a pretty good friendship with my instructor during the lessons and he just told me where to turn and what to do. It just calmed me down during the test! Cant imagine following a gps during the test...

In the UK, the standard teaching is to feed the wheel and a lot of instructors really hate if you cross your arms when steering.
@nialljackson2354
@nialljackson2354 2 жыл бұрын
It’s not so much instructors hate it, it’s examiners (and unfortunately they’re the ones that count) As someone who has been driving now for 11 years, I do very much agree with you and many others do. There are however are select couple of arguments that make wheel shuffling (feeding) the preferred method when learning. 1. Your hands never cross each other. This isn’t usually an issue anyway, but in a rushed situation, there is a possibility that you can lose grip on the wheel because your arms are scrambled over one another. That is what ultimately amounts to the fault. 2. (This one is what believe you be the biggy) wheel shuffling shows an indication of speed. I’ve only just passed my D1 minibus licence in the UK, I had to shift to wheel shuffling again. In the bus related tests, passenger comfort plays a large role. If you corner or accelerate/break quickly unnecessarily. That hinders comfort and hits you with faults on the test. Wheel shuffling is a good indicator of this, if you find you are scrambling or having to resort to other steering methods to clear a tight corner, you are going to fast. DO NOT take that out of context, safety comes before comfort. If you have to manoeuvre quickly to escape a dangerous situation. Steer how you like if you can demonstrate it was necessary.
