I'm so glad I did the upgrade. It's a night and day difference. Zero tumble, the power is insane and it's more quiet. I'm also happy your Bad Idea mount still fits. I would without a doubt do it again. Definitely not worth it if your concern is cost or the warranty. That wasn't an issue for me, I just wanted a better flying Avata. I didn't fly it at all before, now I take it with me every time I go out flying.

Just a good heads up. For the Camera Gummies, they can be a bear to install on the 3.5 frame. To ease them in, use some dish soap on a q-tip and get the gummy and the hole. Will slide right in.

The reason people do this is because of the tumble issue, you got used to fly the avata and the warranty is not an issue anymore, I think the upgrade is worth it Or get a 5 inch quad with O3 system installed.

The avata is strictly a beginner drone unless you do the upgrade. It’s super slow and can’t handle 15mph winds. I really wish I didn’t buy this thing 😂 I hate all the flight restriction stuff too

I had the same problems with mine. Even after replacing the ESC, I still can't fly. Been grounded for months. Put the thing together and back apart so many times i ended up stripping a motor screw and having to drill it out. $150 upgrade to make a 1k drone useless. Gonna end up having to sell for parts

It’s a dope conversion but a pain in the ass to do. I wish it’s how it flew straight from DJI. If I had to do it again, I’d sell the Avata and buy an Axis C35.

I had so many issues with my conversion, even had to take apart several times to troubleshoot but it was SO worth it to me. Now running the GoPro Bones to capture much better video and the confidence I have with the more power without worrying about the dreaded tumble is worth it to me.

Hey Ken hope all is well. this drone has eat its spanich and what a difference it all makes. The speed, take off trust and handling the drone in windy weather etc. It's a pity you have to make all these changes to it...and as a beginners id be lost but would love to learn how to do it. I got these motor way back and did nothing with them. But love the whole fpv world and how you fly these drones as to my mini 2.I couldn't handle the simulator and I prefer flying in a big open field at the moment to learn as a beginner. great video ken on this & great your knocking out the video again after a busy time. take care have a good weekend.

overall if you have an avata and want more power its a good choice its way cheaper than a complete homebuild whoop you got the features you mentiod befor AND you get the camera setup inflight for 130 bucks sounds pretty good show me a whoop in that clas WITH that sensors gps and co and an o3 that costs that i do the upgrade now because i burnt one of the origianl motors and the axis motors are a lil bit cheaper than the original motors...... so ill take it if i need to diassasemble anyways to upgrade it

Hi, Ken. Seems like a cool setup, but the reduction in flight may or may not be worth it. If you crash the Avata and have to send it in, that is going to be a fun disassemble. Will you completely lose DJI Care Refresh in this setup as well? Great video and thanks for the ride along!

Did you experience frame in view if you keep the camera angle below 20 degree in manual mode?

If I understand this correctly, this mod affects mostly manual mode. In normal and sport mode there is no difference, is there? In manual it seems to fly just like any other 3.5 inch cinewhoop, like Cinelog 35 or Axisflying C35. If that is the case, I think it makes not much sense to do it, especially if you own a cinewhoop already. But even if you dont, you can get one, with 03, for not much more money than the mod cost (in money, time, possible burnt ESCs, imperfect soldering, etc). It would be great for those who want a project.

I had to replace the ESC the first time sadly. Pro tip solder to the wires or just crimp to the wires not the board it’s self

I just upgraded mine and ko errors at first but i had to give it half throttle for it to respond and then whike flying i lowt control of the throttle stick. Im going to try to reinstall the woftware qnd controller hoping that will help

I still cannot find a comfortable fit position for the Goggles II. The nose fit keeps it propped so it always is uncomfortable. Has there been any others that find this?

Yes, god i hate the goggles 2. Sold mine to stick with goggles V2 (terrible naming thanks DJI). At least there are decent foam upgrades for the V2 that make them very comfortable and they work with everything from Avata to O3 naked to dji digital and more and you can get a pair for a 1/3 of the goggles 2 price. Just my personal experience. Was shocked at how bad the fit of the goggles 2 was, shockingly bad!

In my opinion, the best thing about this mod is that It stops the death roll issue where if you yaw too hard, it'll flip over, it almost always causes a crash. The extra power is fun to play around with though.

We did this but used t motors instead. I will say, this is def an advanced solder job. We bypassed the board by splice method you mentioned. It’s still underpowered after a few mins with a full size GoPro. Added the bones and can get 7 mins of moderate 50% throttle battery life before you reach 25% and power band falls off I will say. It’s the best beginner fpv you can get that is liON I would recommend skipping for most people and going right to a 3-3.5 in pre build whoop Overall, This was fun and will 100% be used as a backup and for scouting

I Used it as a backup for indoors. It's a bit sketchy though. the main thing that bothers me is the linear throttle. I setup my cinewhoops with plentey EXPO on the throttle, i also lower the throttle percentage. The Avata doesn't have that option, plus if you're near an Airport you can't fly even indoors. So for me it could never be my primary real estate rig. I also film outdoor fitness video. The Avata is perfect fot that, especially with the axis flying upgrade. Normal mode and a longer battery life lets me camp out in the air while the subjects setup for the shot.

Def not worth it. Save the Avata and build or buy a 3.5” whoop with an O3 air unit. Honestly it looks a hell of a lot easier to build one than do this conversion and at the end of the day you’ll have an Avata and another $500 whoop instead of just a $1,000 Avata… (a $1,000 Avata 🤦🏻‍♂️)
