No sense in trashing the idea of a go pro on the avata. it's a life saver in harsh conditions. The avata has a decent camera on it, but doesn't match the dynamic range of the Gopro 11. Was in a situation the other day, harsh conditions (hard shadows), avata footage was trash, Gopro was golden. This is a practical setup for paid jobs.

Thanks for doing this comparison. I've been contemplating setting mine up like this but at this point it seems like I should leave the Avata as-is (other than bolt-on mods etc) and just learn how to fly better and build a larger drone for my action cams once I hone my skills. Feel better, man!

Thanks for putting the work in while sick. I like the idea of this. Maybe after DJI care expires. This is new fun for me not business so no added cam. I'm more interested in getting a 4th battery so I can fly as long as I want. Learning manual will take lots if practice. No issues with my Avata so far.😁

It’s 9:30 central time on October 19. This is the last video I see. I was watching the stream and it completely disappeared from the channel. Maybe it’s on my end. There isn’t even any history of it. Just an FYI. Keep streaming man. I watch it every time. Totally entertained by it. It’s almost like a comedy and info show for drone guys. Don’t stop the Drone Brews!

What would be cool is to swap the motors and beef up the ESC. Then the props. Then add a GoPro. Then maybe try a different firmware. Then you got yourself a sweet rig! 😁

Every time I collide with something flying my Avata in manual mode (even if it's a simple tree leaf at low speed) it detects impact and goes into a crazy mode where it switches to normal mode and accelerates the drone AT MAX to a random direction until it crashes and breaks. did you have this problem bro help

What are the advantages of slapping a action camera on? Is the stock camera on the Avadda that crappy that you need to add a few more hundred Bucks to get good cina footage? I was under the impression that the camera was almost as good as the Air2s. Mmmm
@nq0amark1382 жыл бұрын
Good video and breakdown Ken. It would have been really nice if DJI had incorporated a connector to make a motor swap easy. Even if it was just to replace an original motor, that would be handy. I may look at doing some kind of connector on my drone for the ease of motor swapping, and thereby eliminating the need to dismantle the entire drone. I would bet others are thinking about this as well. That would be perfect and one could swap back and forth between motors all day without the fuss. Thanks for the posting even though you were feeling like crap, that's some dedication my friend ! Cheers...

Why the action 3 if you say it's similar to the avata stock camera? What's the action 3 weight compared to a gopro model that creates a better image than the avata camera?

I acknowledge your efforts in expanding and pushing the limits of the Avata stock and aftermarket upgrades, I appreciate your time and endeavors in doing so. I've watched your videos and your discussions online with Ken Heron so I have a decent vibe of your take on the Avata. Here's my point/question: the purpose of the DJI Avata (and DJI drone for this matter) is to have a 'turn key' FPV experience with all the training wheels of GPS, modes of flying, etc., for beginners and some professionals that don't care for the DIY nature of FPV. After you swap to Axisflying motors (voiding the warranty and negating the DJI refresh option) and strap on an Action 3 camera (adding another 145+ grams with mount) to an already top heavy and overweight cinewhoop aren't we so outside of the original intent of the Avata? I think it's very cool and interesting to see what the Avata can do with all the upgrades but at that point just get a Cinelog 35 with a Gopro and have a much better quad with superior performance and video quality. The advantages of long flight time and an action camera quality video from the single camera are now negated and with the price, lack of available upgrades in a FC, ESC, batteries and so forth it now makes the Avata a dead end. Atleast if you don't like a certain FC or want to save weight and get an AIO, want to adjust weight, flight time and performance with different batteries on a regular FPV Cinewhoop you can do that with less time and effort as disassembling an Avata to upgrade the motors. I think whether intentional or not, this exposes the biggest drawback of the Avata, that you are to a large degree through price, proprietary and skill set painting yourself into a corner when wanting more out of the Avata. I really do enjoy and love that you are doing all of these upgrades, it gives perspective, entertainment and excitement for myself, thank you for exercising the build it better and innovative nature of FPV. Get well soon!

@notfound3792 жыл бұрын
Hey just out of curiosity and I know the debate about pilot error vs firmware error rages on, but would you expect changing the weight and center of balance and so forth of the air-frame should make any latent firmware issues worse? I mean it would seem you're more likely to be out of the envelope and while you're not throwing these around, you haven't seen any weird behavior I assume? Feel better!
@drkastenbrot2 жыл бұрын
there isnt much you can do. the washout issue is mostly a result of the frame design and unless you get rid of the whoops or move the motors you wont be able to improve it much. and the firmware being terrible doesnt give me much hope either because they fpv has a shit tune too and they didnt ever push an update for that.
