Thing is, this is an issue that reaches so far beyond Rayman and even the gaming industry. nothing is about creativity anymore, or innovation at the very least. look at the late 90s and early 00s, you had movie studios, game developers, tech companies, clawing at each other to one up the other for the most impactful and innovative pieces of media or product. But now we're in an era where companies can just pump out things with a recognisable brand, franchise or title and call it a day, there's no need for anyone to actually be different or do something long lasting because it will sell like crazy anyway, why spend more time for quality when you know you're going to be profiting more for quantity? it really sucks because everything is so creatively bleak now.
@Cyberbrickmaster1986Ай бұрын
The indies have been the only ones to truly push those boundaries. But that's become so easy to overlook when so many of them seem to blend in with one another in terms of style, theming and whatever is currently trending. It also doesn't help when so many of them aim at a niche demographic, which usually alienates people like me, which is why I've bypassed so many of them, including ones that people say are good, because something about them just doesn't appeal to me.
@FWCrashАй бұрын
That is basically what Pokemon is to me nowadays. A brand pumping out bad products left and right. Frustrating that it works so well, but oh well. I was done after sword and shield and dont plan to buy another game ever again
@Cyberbrickmaster1986Ай бұрын
@@FWCrash I gave Sword and Shield a chance, but skipped Scarlet and Violet, which was handled even worse from what I've heard. While I haven't given up on the series entirely just yet, I can see why it would be frustrating for a lot of long term fans. I'm just glad that for once, they delayed the next Pokemon game for next year, instead of pushing it out in time for their annual schedule.

@@Cyberbrickmaster1986 I gave it a chance too, and while a few elements were nice... most things either fell short or weren't properly polished. Eh, I don't think they'll do the whole microtransaction thing with Rayman tbh. I know they do it with a bunch of other stuff, but the fact that they made PoP The Lost Crown without any of it (outside of an optional DLC mission) gives me some hope that they'll spare Rayman from it too.

Of course Rayman is in the wrong hands. Ubisoft only treated Rayman as king when the developer company was weak and miserable in it's kids shoes. Now as they are full-fledged, (or at least that's what they are thinking, the exact opposite is going to happen with them, since karma is a powerful tool) they feel like they don't even need Rayman anymore to be successful. Whatever they promise, don't trust them. Only listen to what they have to do with Rayman instead of what they say about him. For a long time I take no account of people who are just babbling promises but never take serious actions.

I don't really get the unreasonable sales quotas. You'd think profit is still profit. Not every project can and will result in the equivelant of a lottery win. And as long as profit is made (ergo -they made money) I dunno what they really want to gripe about. Same for share holders: what do they got to complain about? I hardly think anyone who has Ubisoft shares or stocks is strapped for cash, so as long as they get a net positive sum of money it's basically a passive money maker for them after buying that share that requires not paying any attention to beyond when the next money shipment will be dumped in their moneybin. Not like they have active costs after buying a share like needing to funnel more funds into it. All this being in the ballpark of millions to billions too makes it a real headscratcher to start thinking about the amount of really baffling nitpickery that corporations and share holders get up to: they are still stupid rich, and will remain that way. Especially with how they likely got fingers in a lot of pies. So what do they care? They'll still get a shipment of money from a passive money maker.

They’re strange. They seem to want every single game to be a big blockbuster rather than accept a smaller victory with better knock-on effects. It’s hurting the longevity of their franchises

A lot of shareholders & investors want to tank a company to the ground to get rich quick and run. They don't want a development team making a critically acclaimed game that makes a profit & strengthens the brand. That's a huge waste of time for them. They want yearly AAA franchises that farm constant revenue & dlc. The fact Ubisoft released an unfinished prince of persia paid dlc, then dispanded the team after making one of their most critically acclaimed games ever, shows that even near bankruptcy, the higher ups at Ubisoft haven't changed. They have no fear or accountability, they can just flee to another company

I’m somewhat conflicted about the laboratory clean development style I see in games nowadays. It’s indicative of a lack of perception. How difficult would it be to write a story around a creative dreamworld with regards to Rayman? Based on the lack of fresh big 3D titles it’s impossible. I really appreciate how Rayman exposed me as a boy to a basic idea of how we all dream up our reality in our basic lives. I think nowadays it’s more about the science behind constant dopamine hits instead of more complicated subjects presented in a playful way. I’m all for presenting a range of different cultural ideas to (younger) audiences. Perhaps Ubisoft hates money or we’ve experienced some cultural paradigm shift in game design. I noticed many minds in development teams no longer seem to be as esoteric - or inspired by spirituality and mysticism like they used to be. Thanks for the video! I’m really hoping I get proven wrong though, hope to see some creative results from Ubisoft.

It's really sad what's being implied here: That Ubisoft developers would be _miserable_ if they have to work on a Rayman game, compared to Assassin's Creed. Here that Rayman fans, Ubisoft care more about that franchise than _your_ favorite thing, whether you also like that game or not.

Dude it's long over, the original devs of the good games either left already or are being replaced by people unfit for the job. Under no circumstance preorder a game or "rent a license" when it releases and it's slop. Just because it has a franchise's name and company logo on it doesn't mean it's good, and paying for it will not improve anything or "make the series more popular", it will just drain your wallet and make you miserable. Cherish the memories, they can never take that away.
