You forgot about custom speech bubbles and tech speech bubbles! The ones that Dream and Iron Man use respectively. Custom can be used to tell the difference between people. In fact, this is used a lot in _The Property of Hate_ where *everyone* has custom speech bubbles. Which is useful because some of them don’t use words. Tech speech bubbles are square with lightning bolt tails. They are used for robots, people on phones, etc.

Or you can color the bubble in the color of the eyes/hair/clothes or a color that represents that character. I saw this more times on Scratch Web Comics and it is quite useful... unless it is a colorless comic-

Thank you for making this! I still need to get better when it comes to making comics (it’s definitely more challenging for me than just making a singular artwork), and speech bubbles are always difficult for me This will definitely come in handy!

One thing I was pondering would changing how far the speech bubble goes from the head help show how well the voice is projected Like how far the sound travels

There's another you've missed, and its kinda like a thought or inner narration/ 3rd person narration where its just a rectangular box on the top of bottom of the panel

2:38 I don't know where this trend of using the word balloons with the tails pointing inwards came from (probably Webtoons, the worst place to learn from), but it is *not* used when two people are talking. I know it was used here as a quick example to guide the eye more through the panel, but still the example is wrong, as the word balloon is already placed poorly. If anything, those "inner tails" are used when a character is talking *outside* the panel/frame, and it has to be pointing towards the direction they are, not away from them (like in the example in the video). And there's better ways to show that: Having the tail go off panel and cut at the gutter, or, if there's only two characters talking, not have a tail for it at all. your dialogue should be clear enough that people understand who's saying what.

Once I've started one short comic and used handletter for it. And oh boi, I felt it, it's so hard. So the solution was pretty easy. I cannot remember the url, but you can create your own font, you fill in jpg template, upload it to that service and it generates your font for free. Profit :)

This has been brilliant! Thank you so much! A question on thought speech though; you mentioned the bubbles and the starry-form in manga - but there's also the blocks used in Western Comicbooks. What would be the pros and cons or even situational uses, of these three types? Should I aim for a specific one in my own comics?

Hello, what about color coding speech bubbles for important characters? Opinions?
@robertlupa8273
@robertlupa8273 Жыл бұрын
Sounds neat if used well. It essentially gives each character a unique "voice" in a medium without sound. Could be good for a big reveal/comeback moment or even just simply showing what offscreen character is talking. Just remember to stay consistent. ^^

Hello, I'm a ratter quirky artist and I'm here to share my quirky wisdom For fonts I have a font I made myself, kind of like the handwritting artist thing but upgraded, and then I make variables for characters and moods, for example, I have a softer one and a edgier one then I'd use the edgier one when characters are feeling negative emotions and the softer one when they are feeling positive emotions, or I'll make a character that has trouble speaking have a slightly different font that looks a bit less polished/a character that speaks in a fancy way have a more polished and cursive like font. I make it so the changes are not so drastic it's jaring or hard to read but it's enough of a change that it's noticeble. For speach bubbles it's basically the same, each character has a different speach bubble that will change accourding to the sittuation, maybe a calm loving character will have flowers growing on their speach bubble but the flowers change to different tipes of flowers depending on what they are saying, blooming roses for love, dead daisies for sadness etc, for example, one of my characters is a ghost and their speach bubble is always surrounded by two small ghouls that will change expression acourding to what they are saying, as well as the speach bubble also changes of course. I also like to make characters from different projects of mine have differences in their speach bubbles, like the ghost guy I mentioned, the project they are in has organing inconcistent kind of woblie speach bubbles beacause it's a quieter story, the main character is mute and it's a more visual thing, and they are also all black with white text as the enviroment is also dark and it makes the bubbles look more like part of the story, then there's another project of mine where it's a more bubbly thing so the speach bubbles resemble clouds and are all white with dark slightly different coloured text for each character. It's a rather cartoony thing to do but it works for me so yah.

I always liked the speech bubbles that Transformers had in the 80s Marvel comic, where they were all squares with little sparks at the corners. That always struck me as neat. I just use the general speech balloon tool in CSP most of the time in my graphic novel, but if a character is yelling (in anger or pain) or whimpering I'll draw out the balloon.

So if you have 2 characters, one is just under 7 ft tall, and the other is 3 ft 6, and you need them in the same frame in a way that shows the size difference, but not full body, can i show the tall guy from just below the crotch, and the short one from mid chest? And yes eyelines observed.
