I’m surprised that phones in the US are still locked to a carrier! Years ago Canada made that illegal.

Only if you take the "free phone" or similar deal. One can always buy the phone directly from the manufacturer and then there are no restrictions. FWIW, I purchased my iPhone 16 Pro outright from Boost because they offered a year of service (value of $300) if you buy a qualifiying 5G phone. The iPhone 16 Pro was no more costly than had I purchased it directly from Apple. I was going to port over anyway after my wife's great experience with Boost over the past year, including a week in Canada in September. So, why not get a $300 "freebie" in terms of service since I was going to buy the phone anyway. But, had I not been looking to move to Boost, I'd just go to the Apple store and buy the phone from them. The "free phones" are not so free. If I choose to leave Boost early, I don't have to hassle with phone payoffs since I own the phone. They unlocked it within four hours of the unlock request after a 20-30 minute on-line chat session to verify I purchased the phone outright and was on a post-paid plan. (Why unlocked? For travel and I have my work line from AT&T on the same phone instead of carrying two physical phones.)

I purchased direct from Boost. Same phone, but with 256GB of storage, so $1100. If you buy from them, you get a year of free service. AND, if you buy outright, they will unlock the phone. It took under 6 hours to port in my line (10-15 minutes) AND then process the unlock request. Three years of service will be $1700 if I stay. I live in an area with Boost coverage as well. Plus I get ATT or TMO if no native Boost towers.

If you job is willing to pay your phone bill, for business purposes. Then is it better to have the phone be added to your plan? I have Verizon and was just about to switch back to Visible.

I’ve been debating doing this myself but the reason I switched from T-Mobile to Verizon was for the better service. I’m afraid of switching to a carrier like Mint and not getting the same speeds I get now, so I don’t mind paying more for better quicker service and speeds.

AT&T is the only carrier with the best offer for a new or existing customer: $1000 off with a qualifying trade-in of an iPhone 12 Pro or higher. The only drawback is that it’s carrier-locked and it’s a 36-month eip term.

I got $1000 off an iPhone 16 Pro on Verizon with trade in of a Google Pixel 7, not a targeted offer, on Unlimited Plus (middle plan), I also got 2 iPhone 16's $830 off with trade in of 2 iPhone 12's on Unlimited Welcome (base plan, didn't want to spend $30 extra a month upgraded the plans to Unlimited Plus to get $1000 off iPhone 16 Pro).

I hate the "at mint mobile", look at US mobile, visible, or just use boost mobile's 25$ line, (and if really want a 1-1, use the annual plans that both US mobile and visible have), T-Mobile has bought out mint mobile so there is no longer a "support the little guy" argument, look at the home internet discount with any visible line, and the buy phone outright with carrier deals. Other than an over reliance on mint mobile, good video.

Actually mint gives a year for 180$ unlimited😊
@buffuniballer
@buffuniballer 2 ай бұрын
Yes, if you can fit in the 5gb/month data cap. Unlimited is $360/year. One has to pay a year in advance to get that price. The price does not include taxes and fees. The $45 three month trial is a great way to see if Mint Mobile works for you. If it does, sign up. They are on the TMO network, so if TMO works for you, it's a great way to use their network. I had it for 15 months. The only place where it was a struggle was in Alaska. My wife was on Boost and she had better coverage due to their smart network that uses the Boost/Dish towers when they are available and then ATT or TMO towers if their native towers are not. I moved to Boost about 10 days ago only because I had issues during travel and my wife didn't. Plus, buying a qualifying phone gave me a free year of their basic unlimited ($25/month) service. I was going to buy the phone anyway and since they would credit my account $25/month for the next 12 months for buying the phone at the same price as Apple charges, but from them AND being able to get it unlocked, it was a good move for me. YMMV My youngest child is still on Mint and I do endorse it if one lives and travels where they have great coverage.

I am aprehensive with MVNO's because their 'cheap' plans only offer depriority data when the network is congested. I can imaging trying to use google maps while driving in crowded downtowns or trying to get a connection a big festival like cochella.

Hey there! My name is Daniyal! You might remember me. I’m your biggest fan. I might take you up on that offer. If you can find me a carrier that can support Wi-Fi calling, when the phone is turned off, meaning Wi-Fi calling for iCloud connected devices. Because no small carrier that I know supports that feature and I really love using that feature because I’m on my iPad a lot more than I’m on my phone because of great battery life.

If you don't have a few thousand extra dollars lying around, don't waste your time watching this video, bc it was made by/for ppl who have the means to drop a full $1000+ on a phone in one fell swoop without a care. Unfortunately, a LOT of ppl simply don't have enough ready cash (or credit even) to "BUY STRAIGHT-OUT FROM APPLE", hence the reason so many are willing to sign contracts and pay monthly installments.

Not when they rip you off monthly. They are the most expensive and their service is not nearly as good as it used to be. I’ve been with them for 22 years. Their service has gone downhill drastically
@trsskater
@trsskater 3 ай бұрын
This is a bit silly. The phone being free from those more expensive companies isn't to get you to join them to buy the phone. No one does that. Those are free upgrades. So those of us already on those plans it's free as long as you are ok keeping the phone for 3 years before you are able to get another one. If you aren't on them or don't want to be on them then you already know the service is too expensive for you so you aren't going to join just because you got a phone. Also if you have 5 people on your plan you pay $25 per line for first party service rather than 3rd party. If you have 4 friends you can trust or 4 family members you can do really well.
@MarcoAshford
@MarcoAshford Ай бұрын
As soon as you mentioned mint mobile to compare to these big threes, you already lost credibility. It's like comparing Spirit airline VS Delta airline. Or Dollar tree VS Target. You can't do that. And you have to use 3 years for all carrier to count the total cost. What about the 3rd year? T mobile and Mint just free of charge? You have to compare apple to apple, Verizon offers you welcome plan to have this deal with trade in, not the most expensive plan. You only pay $40 per line a month. Verizon cost total is 1440, even Mint is 2080. Do your research before you post misleading content.

After two years at T Mobile the phone is paid off, while at Verizon/AT&T you’re still paying installments. What this also ignores is the bill credits (up to $1,000) on the phones through the carriers, plus extra features (T-Mobile includes Apple TV and Netflix and potentially Hulu)

😂 MVNO’s are not unreliable, that’s a crazy statement to make ! IF they were unreliable, which they are absolutely not, they would lose customers in droves, and soon be out of business ! Mint Mobile for one is actually owned by T-Mobile, Visible is owned by Verizon.
