I thought the same thing for years. I quit playing for a while because I hit a massive wall and thought my sound my dry and boring. With a heavy dose of theory I fell back in love with playing and utilizing reverb, delay, and chorus. FYI you were one of the first to get me into theory so thanks for the vids.

I've been playing for 30+ years and in my early years I loved my effects. As I got older I chucked the effect boards and racks and just use some stadium reverb directly in my amp setting and only effect I use is a wah wah pedal when needed.

I've always liked reverb. Makes sound more dynamic, dimensional. Great playing, BTW.

Reverb and Delay is something I use on every solo I do. I take a lot of inspiration from Ritchie Blackmore, Dave Murray, Adrian Smith, Jens Ludwig, Janick Gers, and Carlos Cavazo. All of which used either delay, reverb, or both on most of their material. Just a hint of delay and reverb can make your solos sound majestic and boost the fullness of your riffs.

I love reverb and delay. Either on my real amps and at my amp simulations. It sounds more "alive". Reverb always and additional delay at harmonics and solos 🤘

Hey Steve, Steve Also. I find that effects are just a great creative tool in that whether using various types of delay or reverbs or creating sustain with compressors. They allow me to take my playing to different places with ambiance or sounding like a different space adding to the music emotionally, dynamically shaping what i hear and just adds to the feel. There's no hiding. They help with building designing developing different soundscapes. or in fact without for natural clean or tight high gain Megadeth. pedals also help create in many many cases a signature sound from Zakk Wylde to Ric Ocasec to Jeff Beck ad infinitum. Ive watched many of yer videos and enjoyed and learned lots stuffs cheers and thanks and heres to shapeshifting

Don’t use it like a crutch - also perfect explanation . Everybody with intermediate skills know what you mean . Others may remember . Yet others just need to keep going and they’ll get it .😊

I usually always have a bit of delay in conjunction with my overdrive to give my rhythm a spanky metallic sound. Got that from a rig rundown video with Kelley Deal from the Breeders.

Hey Steve, great video. Just wondering if you could go more in depth on settings for reverb and delay? I know there are other videos out there on it but your teaching style seems to be a little easier for me to grasp. Maybe a little more on how you have your delay and reverb settings. Feedback, mix, high cut, low cut, pre delay, etc.

Actually Steve, one of the true Greats, a Real legend, Paul Kossoff never used effects, just him, his LP, and a Marshall.

I use flangers when I want a huge wave crashing effect where a recorded brick smashing through a plate glass window can be too implicite.

I just got into pedals just wondering do you go in front of amp or fx loop? To me in the loop effects sound more distinct.

In my opinion - delays, reverb and other modulations sounds better and should be used in the FX Loop. Nothing wrong if someone want use it after OD/Dist and before Preamp IN - but then they sound too much intensive or insistently IMO

@@noisesfromtheabyss I’m glad I’m on the right track. Hate to run fx loop just for a looper pedal lol. Thank you for your opinion.
