Every year we try to grow more potatoes, and even in our zone 5 garden, one way to expand our potato harvest is by planting potatoes now that we can harvest in the fall.

I grew their Yukon Gold, King Harry, and Prairie Blush this year. Was supposed to get Carola in the mix as well but got sent double Prairie Blush, and am so happy I did! They are such good potatoes! Honestly, anything from Wood Prairie is a win. For fall potatoes I am putting in some micro tubers that I forgot existed. They sprouted in the bag so we shall see. I had the space after pulling the early potatoes, so why not? So far they are looking great.

Happy with my wood prairie Prairie Blush potatoes I grew this year. They grew quite big and were delicious. On the other hand the Sarpo Mira didn't do well at all, they were smallish and were attacked by slugs or a worm possibly. lots of deep holes. Still waiting on the Kennebecs they were planted a few weeks later than the others.

I’m going to plant the Prairie Blush, Adirondack Blue and Red, King Harry this fall. I have Huckleberry Gold, Sarpo Mira still to harvest from late spring planting

I also just recently cleared a little field of garlic (just 12, but pretty big) and got that spot ready to grow something else. You inspired me to grow some more potato there. I only raked in some of my compost to refresh the soil. We see in a few month how it worked.

I’m so glad you shared this! I’ve wanted to try fall potatoes (it’ll be my first time growing potatoes), but I had no idea where to find slips this time of year. I used your link and your code today. I’m starting small…I just got 1/2 lb of the red potato you talked about first. I will be using a 20-25 gal grow bag. How many potatoes can I put in the bag? Will you do a video on planting some of yours in a grow bag? I’m clueless! No idea how much soil to put in initially…all the way to the top or do I need to add soil as time goes by. I need Growing Potatoes For Dummies, please. If you already have a video like this, could you share a link? Thank you!

Wood prairie has a video about it and I believe they suggest one seed potato for every five gallons of soil.
