In a smallgroup setting Ella Fitzgerald sings "Don't Get Around Much Anymore" with Duke Ellington on piano and bass and drums.
This was recorded in 1968 in a studio with an audience but I have no info where. I'm always impressed with the drummers of the Ellington band. A tremendous drive and depth in their playing. The drummer in this clip is Rufus Jones.
I was once playing a concert in one hall with our little group and in our interval the Ellington band would play across the hall. ( I guess we were hired as the interval band) It was in the eighties and Duke was not alive any longer and his son Mercer was leading. Mercer's son Paul Ellington was the drummer in the band
We got a chance to talk to him and we told him how much we liked his playing. He then mentioned that he had a long way to go still before he would hopefully reach the level of the drummers previously in that band. He then sat in with us and he certainly had that magic.
Paul Mercer Ellinton is now leading the Ellington band

Ms Ella was fabulous! marvelous and off the hook, this music isn't performed like it use to be, how sad. I grew up on this wonderful art, thank you mom, dad, uncles, aunts and many others for introducing me jazz. LeCount

This clip is from the NBC telecast "Ella Fitzgerald Show", April 08-11, 1968. In the same show they recorded "Oh, Lady Be Good" and "Lush Life". Bass and drum players are from the Ella rhythmic section. They are Keter Betts and Louie Bellson.

‘I got as far as the door.. without you I couldn’t get anymore” Now that’s how to dig yourself out of a hole when you’re a little bit lost in a song. I absolutely adore Queen Ella.

I love this video two of my absolute favorites along with my favorite clarinetist 😊 (I used to play in HS and kept playing in college until I couldn't phsyically anymore). Our first real showcase for the HS band myself and two other clarinet girls did this song for our piece. We found it in a jazz standard book that was out of print. We practiced so hard, even in the bathroom 5 mins before!😂 I love playing this music and more so listening to it.

Okay, this makes me feel so good because she clearly forgot where she was and went to the last A section during the Bridge. And when she realized it she (and the fab band) made it work! Oh Ella, you were so fabulous. I can rest easy that even the greats aren't perfect and yet make gorgeous imperfection in jazz. And my mistakes are okay! That's Jazz Baby!

Yeah, he's playing on Rufus Jones' drumset beacause before this song the Duke Ellington Orchestra performed with Rufus Jones on drum. At that time Louie Bellson and the bass player Keter Betts were the rhythm section of the Ella Fizgerald show orchestra.

Ellington en 1968 con Ella Fitzgerald y un gran baterista Rufus Jones en un tema de su autoría "Ya no vienes tan seguido". No es mucho lo que se puede decir sobre tan importantes intérpretes que no exprese la misma música.

That was actually one of the greatest saves in live performances... Ever. The rhythm section were clearly setting it up to wrap it up, and Ella gestured with her hand and that "Without you i knoooow...", and Ellington knew what to do. Ms. Fitzgerald rarely gets credit for being a masterful on the spot interpreter and arranger. The greatest vocalist ever.
