Keeping up repairs on the wombat's various burrows certainly works up an appetite. Wombats almost exclusively eat grass and roots - a rather odd diet for a burrower. As digging requires a lot of energy and grass isn't a very energy-rich food. The wombat has the dubious title as the largest animal in the world that digs and eats only plants. So a wombat is rarely willing to share their patch of grass with any interlopers. Wombats try to avoid one another. They prefer their own company. This male leaves scent marks to demarcate his territory. A warning to other wombats to stay away.
