A trick I learned on the job is the benefits of a "smoke break" even if you don't smoke. Literally removing yourself from a situation and getting a moment to pause and process can be valuable in what Jocko is talking about

6:19 - 6:37 is very heavy and true. It’s hard, if not criminal to yourself to trust your hope of a better day in someone else. Because what happens if that imperfect person inevitably lets you down? Your hope goes with them. Your trust should rest in what you have control over. And you must maintain and continue to work towards the life you hope is possible. That, in itself, is the life journey worth living and inspires others to do the same. I’ve listened to Jocko for some time now. Him sharing those lines has had the biggest impact on my thought process. Thank you Echo and Jocko for being consistently encouraging. (Side note: This video is 7:54 long. Same number as the boat I served on. USS Topeka SSN 754! “Defender of the Heartland”) Have a blessed day everyone and thanks for letting me share my thoughts with you.

Very interesting thoughts from Keith Douglas. I completely agree w the detachment of emotions to accomplish certain tasks. Thanks Jocko for this!!! Also I mentioned this before in a comment. Thanks for NOT CUSSING. I listen to many of your podcasts in the morning w my daughter(11) who understands these concepts of life to live by. It helps. Those voices in the ears of kids from people who aren’t their parents and from someone such as yourself make a huge impact. It enforces the lessons that are taught at home and I GREATLY appreciate all you do. -and my 6 yr old daughter absolutely loves “Way of the Warrior Kid.” Both books

"Don't get caught up in things that don't matter." says Jocko, waving a knife around. "Avoid becoming resentful when you don't get exactly what you want." says Jocko, waving around a decommissioned revolver. "Use it as a chance to grow." "Try to discipline yourself." says the retired Navy SEAL, brandishing a musket at nobody in particular. "Forget about the mistake you made in the past!" screams Jocko. His arms are flailing around like wacky inflatable tubepeople. Both arms have RPG's strapped to them. Echo Charles is in the corner, sobbing.

Yes. I wholeheartedly agree. Detachment from everything...and everyone is the basis for lifestyle design... With a blank slate you can then add back in the things that truly matter...and only focus on those things...creates a happy and fulfilling life...focus only on those things that matter to you.

If you all are more interested in this way of thinking, look into the philosophy called Stoicism. A lot of what Jocko talks about reflects a lot of this way of thinking. There are audiobooks on KZbin that are books by Stoics such as Marcus Aurelius, Seneca, Epictetus, etc.

Lets be clear, a lot of the motivational speeches can not apply to people with depression or mental illness. I have dealt with people with serious depression and anxiety, it is not as easy for people suffering to to just run and push through the pain. For normal people like myself it works great and i love it. Just remember if you know anyone with mental health problems that you need to be patient with them and help them by understanding their point of view and try and talk them through their issues. If you realize you can not help a person try and help them seek professional help, there is only so much you can do in some areas or circumstances. Solutions: Depression = Talking through problems Anxiety = Small/slow moving life affirming actions to start off If you are watching these videos it means you want to change and help yourself and that means you have strength. Have the strength to help others once you can help yourself because not everyone is as strong or motivated. Save yourself and you'll save this world.

You have such a great head on your shoulders and explained it in a way I always wish I could have explained it to other people especially in regards to myself going through anxiety and OCD and depression constantly from a head injury obtained as a child that caused petit mal seizure disorder and other Spectrum disorders I I'm all about educating myself and doing the best for myself that I possibly can do as well as helping as many others as I can there's so many times I feel myself backsliding but these days I use those backsliding moments as ways to better myself and increase the attention of a Learning lesson no matter what I still feel the anxiety I still feel the need to overthink and have internal thinking in my head with depression it creeps up always but I do all kinds of things to help myself like going to the boxing / Muay Thai Jim just now and in a couple hours going to go to the regular gym and lift some weights and then soon start a jiu jitsu class that's close by me as well as educating myself on all different forms like NLP law of attraction positive forms of Seduction Concepts like Robert Green and Ross Jeffries appeal to me a lot from my own internal self-healing but also my need and desire to learn how to take what I have learned to teach myself and give the same to others that's probably the greatest thing I can think of doing to overcome what I have and someone like you just gives me that I opener inside answer that lets me know that it's always possible as well as motivational people like Jocko and others like Jordan Peterson these are people that I like to follow along with all my martial arts channels that I like to watch and practice at my gyms thank you so much for being a good KZbin commenter and having fantastic timing for someone like me

Holy shit, him holding the knife is a metaphor. Looking at the knife, laughing at the image of him swinging it around to really drive home a point (pun intended), is distracting you from listening to what he's saying "what actually matters". If you didn't watch the whole thing and learn to ignore the life then you're not practicing what he's talking about.

Excellent video. I've learned to distinguish between what matters and doesn't matter for quite sometime now. Some people dont understand, some people I try to help to a point of embracing this ideology and some, look at me like I am crazy or not "normal". Can't win them all. I know it's allowed me to take better control of my life in all aspects. No regrets.

I can’t remember who said it but some guy suggested the same thing about professional sports. Professional sports don’t. Matter.. but they’re just another distraction for people to put time & energy into. If you catch a game here and there to unwind that’s fine! It’s those people who religiously follow sports. A) it’s a game and B) you aren’t even the one playing.. focus on your life and your responsibilities

All the hashtags link together, all the hashtags I've been posting like mad over the past 4 days. I then took all those hashtags and spread them through major KZbin videos. GANGNAM Style, a bunch of Joe Rogan, Jocko Willink videos etc. I then posted a topic about "Philadelphia Activism" on Reddit in r/Politics. Then I messaged different MSM news outlets and the Phillies DeFranco show. Then I donated $10 to the Wounded Warrior Project on Facebook, created a fundraiser and checked in from Puerto Rico and Philadelphia repeatedly. Somebody somewhere knows something about this
