Don’t Get Dirty Without This FRAME Cleaning Routine! (Prevent Rust)

Hey everyone I made this video to demonstrate my method of clearing out the Tacoma’s frame after 5-6 off-roading trips which involved lots of mud.
As you can see it was already decent, but dirt and debris remained inside the boxed and c-channel sections of the frame, as well as inside of suspension components.
Note: the undercarriage washer left behind debris that ONLY the rubber tubing was able to flow out. More of this mud was in the c-channel to my surprise. But makes sense because the c-channel in the rear is more exposed to the elements.
☝🏼REMOVE YOUR SPARE! It was crazy how much dirt was under there.

I need to do this for my 2010 Tacoma's second frame that was installed two or three years ago. It only has 126k miles now and I plan to drive it till the end of time.

Great video I’ve been planning to do this to my truck. Question about using that underbody sprayer? Is there any areas where the pressure washer could cause electrical issues? I never seen you spray under the engine area in your video! Thanks

Hey thanks! So my sprayer is just enough pressure to remove “most” of the mud. I don’t know the number it it’s not enough to cause problems. However I keep it moving I don’t sit in a specific spot. I’ll do under the engine too quickly. The rubber hose is what really did the work. So far so good!

I don’t recommend paint because paint does not displace the water it will trap it

Did you make a video applying the Fluid Film? Have you heard of Krown? It’s like Fluid Film and supposed to be really good.

I did not because I didn’t have equipment to block the vapors from my camera and the vapors get everywhere. Krown has a great reputation. I chose fluid film because of its environmental safety and self healing properties.

I found a place that’s about an hour away that does Krown applications. When the guy started explaining the process he mentioned they drill small holes into the door sill area and a few other select areas and apply it inside. I told him I was only interested in having the undercarriage of my Tacoma done and no drilling and he said that was fine too. I see you said you did not do the Fluid Film application because of the vapors would get on your camera. Is there any professional places that apply Fluid Film and solve that problem or worry? I know Toyota offers undercarriage coatings but I’m not sure if they’re the oil based spray types like Fluid Film or Krown? Or if they’re that rubbery coating that looks good for a while but is actually very bad and traps in moisture. You make great videos so I’m glad I found you on KZbin.

I actually did apply the fluid film however, I did not film it due to the camera getting oily. I will call around to see which places near you can do the application for you. Thank you so much for the support.

Nice video! Doesn't Toyota offer an undercoating? If you actually apply some sort of sealant on the frame does it void any warranty?

Thanks! Toyota offers undercoating options. I don’t think it would void the warranty. That rubberized stuff, that’s another story.

Stay away from rubberized undercoatings! It will eventually just trap moisture and salt onto the frame and cause massive rot. Rubber is porus....plus there's no way anyone can get the frame clean enough (dirt, oil, etc.) to get a proper adhesion and prevent eventual rubber degradation and penetration by the elements. The annual additional rubberized coatings by a shop might add will just make it worse. There's a reason most "rustproofing" services are dead and gone. I use fluid flim every fall on my vehicles to get through salt-filled Michigan winters. Works like a charm.

Simple green contains copper and can promote corrosion due to dissimilar metal interaction... Something to be aware of especially in places where it my not get rinsed off completely.

From past expieriance living on the east coast P.A. many years ago I have seen so much rott damage to frames & bodies on so many vehicles due to the salt used in the snow, regardless how much dealerships apply extra layers of under coating on new vehicles or spraying down the body & frame the salt will always find its way in the tinyest places & begin to rott out the body or frames another major reason I dont want to live on the east coast anymore not wanting to have to put on chains on the tires shoveling snow & driving in it having someone slamming into you, many reasons not to live in any snowy places I am fine here on the west coast where we get no snow & no salt.

@@brianruperti you would think after many decades that there would been some other alternitive of using salt on the roads, I bought a car off a guy years ago here in cali he stored an old ford falcon in storage place down in long beach he was in the air force so rarely was in the state to drive it but because it sat in storage for long time the ocean air started to rust out the lower wheel well panel size of a quarter nothing too major but goes to show that ocean air which has salt in it can cause rott as well.

@@BurtBowers yea you would think! And yes ocean breeze is no joke. In Hawaii, houses on one side of the islands are much more expensive because they do not suffer the ocean breeze that the other side does, where everything rusts much faster.

How much of the fluid film gets washed off from the pressure washing?

Most if you use high pressure. A little if you use low pressure. So it gets very gentle rinses in the summer/winter and heavier rinses in the fall to prep for the next coating.

One suggestion for your Simple Green...buy the concentrate and try a small, hand pump tank sprayer. Saves your hand constantly pulling the trigger, and you can reach farther with the sprayer's wand. And it's "green" (no pun intended) because you're not buying multiple disposable squirt bottles of the product :-).

Appreciate your efforts Bro but that's a brand new truck!!! You still got stickers that are white and clean. You were spraying simple green on a flawless black frame that's not even stained with mud or clay. ALL THE BEST MY MAN, DO COOL STUFF BUT..........GET IT DIRTY FIRST.

Manufacturers switched to galvanized sheet metal years ago so body panels wouldn't rust through, why not on the frames?? C'Mon, TOYOTA!!
