You suppose to put 2 inches from the beginning of the plates,so plates can catch on. I broke a die cutting machine having dies at the edge. Indent dies 2 “ from beginning of the plate. Good demo.🥰

I got the new Gemini when it first debuted in May. They were offered with the rotation foot and I love that. I appreciate just spinning it around to grab the plates. Thank you very much for showing the different sandwiches. I didn't realize you didn't really need the top plate. I heard Tim Holtz talk about misting paper before embossing for a long time and always thought it wasn't for me. I finally broke down and tried it on an Anna Griffin embossing die that I just wasn't getting the quality I wanted. I was shocked at how much better the embossing was. Now I'm a believer.

Turn your 3d folder and open end first and also turn it on slight angle , goes through better

I have the original machine that came out before the Gemini Jr. came out. As a card maker, I usually don’t have the need to cut lots of dies at once. The full size machine’s plates took too long to go through. To solve the problem, I purchased the Gemini Jr. plates and run them sideways. It works great, plus it’s faster than running them through a Jr.

It's a nice machine, but I didn't like the sandwich part. There are too many plates to use. But it's very nice. I am a Sizzix user and very happy with the one I have. Thanks for the demo. 😊

@@Crystal-ww4hp I had a hard time with the plates because they warped so easily. However, Gemini has green plastic ones that solve the problem. I tape them onto the inside of the regular plates and run them through the machine. In truth, I have two houses and two machines, a jr. and a full size one. I have attached the green plates onto the regular plates at both houses, and they work beautifully. I am hardly using my Sizzix anymore.

@ccubito I almost got the Gemini, but my friend got one first, so I waited to see how she liked it. The first one came out. We both had the sizzix big shot. Well, I saw how much trouble she had remembering how to sandwich the plates that I said forget it and she couldn't use some of the dies from Sizzix . So, I ended up buying the Sizzix Vagabond 2, which way I know how to sandwich it, and all my dies would work fine, even the big thick dies. And I had all the shems and plates. So, I didn't have to buy different plates. We both wanted an electric machine . I will say, I was happy with my choice and my friend was happy with her choice also. But, I will say this New Gemini sounds like a great machine. Have a wonderful day 😊

I've had mine since the first day it came out for the US. I have yet to use my magnetic shim to cut anything. I only use my 2 white plates, plastic shim and possibly the metal shim between the top white plate and plastic shim. I suggest you use the least amount of plates/shims and work your way up. If you use too many plates/shims it will wrinkle your paper. FYI you should never just use the magnetic shim on top by itself because it will get caught up in the roller and then you're toast. Also, you don't have to grab the plates out because they will catch and sit there until you take them. I love that I can also use my Gemini Jr plates in it and put them in head on because the sensor goes all the way across.

Since you had your machine for over a year now - how is it with warping the cutting plates? Is that still a problem for the Gemini II?

It is the most wonderful equipment I have for crafting (a close second, though) to the Glue PRESS!. I agree---READ the user guide--and DON'T lose it! Love Love Love the Gemini II and his little sister the Gemini Junior. Can't live without them.

Crafter’s Companion sells a stand thingy that is magnetic so as you are crafting just touch your dies against this stand and it grabs hold of them so you don’t lose your dies - also , in a couple of months additional uses or tools, not sure yet, are coming to be used in the ports at the back

With the platform and new style plates I bet you get a lot less warping of plates. I have the original Gemini pre the Junior and unwarping the plates can be a bit tedious and they do get to a point where it skips bits when cutting despite turning and flipping. I agree with the comment above about the metal shim - only use for really delicate cuts as it adds pressure you don't normally need and contributes to warping. Personally I wouldn't cut into it for fear of blunting the dies. I suspect previous cut lines will show up on the next piece of card you cut. I struggle with 3d folders - I seem to have to try every combination of shims.

I don’t have this machine, but another electric machine. I do mist my paper as it makes the embossing sooooo much crisper! Plus, i turn my 3-D embossing folder on an angle. Tim Holtz says to do that as it is easier for any machine to grab a smaller corner than the full-on end of the folder. I don’t find my machine to be slow since i can no longer just whip out a cut on my manual machine. Thanks for sharing all your findings with us.

If u use the 2 plates 4 double sided dies and just use the 2 top plates it stops the plates plates from warping as the double side plates don't warp

you know the plastic zip packaging sheets come in?? I use the 2 layers of the plastic cut to fit the white plates, it makes an awesome shim!! with just the plastic shim and white plates, ive also found things stay flatter when you use most of your plate when cutting dies out, I LOVE this machine... i had the first gemini and hated it and sent it back!! I have about every cutting machine out there and this is my FAV

Does this machine warp the plates like other die cutting machines do? I have a cuttlebug and hate that the plates warp so quickly!

Mine warped the first time I used them, but they still work.

You can actually see the warping happening after the very first use. The pressure the machine produces really warps them quickly. You just need to remember to flip flop your plates.

Is that the metal plate that is curved. How do you prevent that?

It shouldn't be used with the blade side of the dies facing it. That will ruin the metal shim immediately and dull the cutting edge of your dies over time.
