When it comes to chronic pain or chronic illness, it is very easy to become consumed with fear about our symptoms and what that means about the rest of our life. Let's talk about the role of fear and why it makes sense to now give in to fear.

I love the animal example that demonstrates that we are hard wired to react to pain. I had been thinking that giving ANY attention to the pain was bad and therefore began beating myself up. As of today, I am going to use the "Yeah But.. " method that will remind me that the pain is temporary and not physical. Indifference = Acceptance. Yes, I feel pain but I am not broken and I am safe. Feels more peaceful. Thanks for the post.

Hi Dan, your video's have been a great help. I'm here to tell you that I've recoverd from myofascial pain syndrome for about 80% and ulcerative colitis for 100%. Since both occured simultaneously, I know for a fact this auto-immune illness colitis is TMS. However, I keep having obsessive fears about the symptoms returning, especially colitis. The main problem here is that there ARE TMS-equivalents that cause physical inflammation and can get pretty messy... Just reassuring "I am okay" and being indifferent becomes much harder in these types of conditions...
@PainFreeYou
@PainFreeYou 3 жыл бұрын
Geil, I understand your uncertainty. Keep in mind, a 100% reduction in colitis and 80% reduction in your myofacial pain is evidence that those things were stress/emotionally induced. Essentially TMS. Fear is what drives TMS and symptoms. Trust your body, it is proving already that it knows what to do when you become less fearful. I will tell you that when under stress and in a fearful state, the immune and digestive systems are in a very suppressed state which can allow symptoms doctors describe as colitis to develop. Being stressed out about a stress illness coming back is not the best approach. Yes, it's challenging, but there is no downside to reassuring yourself that your body is fine.

Some days we feel more anxious than others. The key is that we don't have to figure it out. There are millions of bits of information we take in each and every day. Who knows what may have sparked an old memory or future worry. At the end of the day, trying to figure out what happened won't get us any closer to feeling better. Allow yourself to feel whatever you are feeling without judgment. There is nothing wrong with you. It's just a wild day where you feel off. The less of a problem we make days like this, the less of a problem they become. Soothe. Calm. You are already okay.

your recent vids are ESPECIALLY helping me lately... today i was listening to you talk about letting down the fear and while i was listening and doing that, the pain would just fade away! but i was wondering about something today, i went to cook something and it caused much low back pain, standing there.... and i thought 'it's just TMS, don't worry' and i went forward and bent down to get something and woah, the pain got so bad i HAD TO sit down, what kind of thinking should i have in place for that kind of situation? where your brain just makes the pain worse and worse until you are forced to stop.... i'm trying to live my life i mean, i'm trying to self soothe while i do it, but what else should i think/do/be?
@PainFreeYou
@PainFreeYou 3 жыл бұрын
Your brain still thinks bending over is dangerous so it ramped up the pain. There is a concept called pain reprocessing where we use our imagination to first imagine moving a certain way and doing it with joy and a smile and pain free. We practice it in our imagination before we just get up and bend over. Here's the video. Practice this for any movement that had previously caused pain. It's the best way to teach your brain that the movement is safe. Pain Reprocessing: kzbin.info/www/bejne/m2TLaYeVh7BmlZo Alan Gordon: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gpKtZXmbbMShsM0

Another great video Dan 👍. I’ve got a question though: What if that symptom is not physical but emotionally painful and humiliating? Of course we cannot see emotional damage but what to do when we FEEL it real bad and it REALLY hurts??
@PainFreeYou
@PainFreeYou 3 жыл бұрын
Altaf - I am not a licensed therapist or psychiatrist. So, this is simply my opinion as a regular person. Often we get ourselves into a negative emotion spiral through rumination about the things that upset us. Feeling Versus Rumination: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z2ilh6KvZ7Vkg6M It's not the emotional event that is the problem. If we feel it, the emotion can pass. However, often we get stuck in the story of WHY we are upset and that keeps us in the emotional state. Stay out of story mode: kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZpCQe513qM2EbLc

For 3 yrs now I have suffered but when eventually you realise medical investigations come to null it grinds into a eventual dead end.For this reason there is almost a defeat of living with you're symptoms, tolerance... life has to go on,there is little choice if bills need to be paid,by the bare minimum requirements of life we function regardless with pain. I know my belief system towards TMS has been rocked severely in the last two weeks for the reasons of two debilitating new symptoms, breathlessness & the worse more or less constant nauseous stomach.I mentioned Dan I find myself once again looking towards a Doctor to find out why but Covid 19 in the UK has almost made this impossible.The Protect the NHS monicker means even the dying struggle to get past the Hospital doors or getting a Doctors receptionist to pick up the phone let alone get a appointment is a rarity indeed.So why I await for this opportunity let's deem it TMS & realise just how cunning this illness is? Would you assume that my mind has derived that because the symptoms of abdominal pain,Rib pain,chest/back pain,neck pain & a multitude of throat issues I've have become all accustomed to carrying them on my back while carrying on functioning,working & even enjoying rare moments of socializing on more successful moments. Is my mind saying you've become far too successful in living with TMS....Let's Ramp up the Symptoms/ Pain dial to 11 to see how he/ I cope with that! ??? ....answer to that....Not coping at all well😔....you're wisdom would be kindly appreciated Dan🙏⛅🌤️☀️....along side my current read of The Divided Mind & peppermint Tea for companions of distress.😔🙏

TMSers are known to be breath holders. Ive had crazy symptoms for almost 14years and the breathing trouble started around year 10. Also nausea and digestive issues. I have rid many symptoms w the tms approach. Of course you can check if anything serious is going on but i am very cautious of doctors and medical labels. They can be a block to tms healing. It sounds like tms to me. Be well.

@@soultheory6747 in my experience tms symptoms are like a rollercoaster and alot of times there is no clear reason for symptoms worsening. Also sometimes they worsen for that exact reason, to get you to doubt so it can keep your attention. I have had many dark days on the tms process and many big time doubts. Thank God i kept going because i am in alot better place now. Tms healing is nonlinear. You could be doing everything right and the symptoms could be level 11 for no reason. Dans videos have many priceless insights. Make sure you have a thorough understanding of what tms is and how it works. I recommend the mind body prescription by sarno and the great pain deception by steve ozanich, if you haven't already. Your main job is to not give a crap about the symptoms and as much as possible get back to life, while having patience and kindness for yourself. As Dan is constantly reminding us " no one ever got better by freaking out". We are teaching the brain we are safe, emotions are safe, and thoughts are safe. Good vibes your way 🙌))))

Soul, the ONLY thing predictable about TMS is it's unpredictability. We don't have to figure out WHY something happened or WHY we got new symptoms. It's ALL a result of a brain and nervous system that is in constant over-protection mode. Stress suppresses the immune and digestive system. Adrenaline and cortisol amplifies the nervous system. Catastrophic thinking added in creates the perfect storm for symptoms that move, change, get worse, new symptoms popping up. The WHY is simply this.... TMS. We don't have to figure out exactly why something new happened. That is fruitless. Our biggest job is to calm down the brain, the body, the nervous system. The concepts I teach are designed to do just that. Create messages of safety. Not about everything in life, but at minimum about our body. Trust your body. It knows what to do if we get out of it's way. Fear and attention are the fuel. Messages of safety: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rp7bppxqgt5lq6s
