I have been paralyzed from the neck down for nearly 18 years, and I experience major anxiety constantly. Being a c4 quadriplegic means that I am unable to move or feel my body below my shoulders, making me susceptible to bedsores. I have dealt with bedsores in the past, and I worry incessantly about the possibility of developing another one. The only time my anxiety subsides is when my caregiver repositions me in bed and checks my skin for red marks. My heart even races as I await my caregiver's assessment of my skin. Coping with this situation is a constant challenge that consumes my every waking moment.

Spot on with anxiety stored in the body. It literally is a part of who you are. As trauma is a result of something terrible and anxiety is based on trauma, good luck resolving it. I have an anxiety disorder starting from birth, more later at age 8, etc. Being a naturally happy person allows me to compartmentalize anxiety, which isnt healthy, but its the best method ive found for me. I do the box breathing method often, which helps to center myself and break anxiety explosion that would normally spin out.

@Guys_Love_Each_Other Жыл бұрын
Yes, that is likely part of the reason. Our brains have not changed much over thousands of years, while technology has changed rapidly. This mismatch can lead to feelings of pressure and overwhelm. Social media and smartphones, in particular, have a big effect on our lives and our overall mental health. So, while technology has made many positive changes in our world, it has also caused some negative effects. As with many things, it is important to find the right balance between the benefits of technology and the drawbacks.

I been feeling overwhelmed and a lot of stress lately because of my roommate. How can I relax. Always stressed about everything in life.

Whats stressing you out specifically? And you can try exercise (even long walks), deep breathing, therapy if you can afford it, whatever relaxes you and makes you feel safe

Get your sleep. Don’t drink anything for three hours before sleep. Use lavender oil on a tissue next to your head. Get a walk in often. Drink a lot of water. Try lemon in it if it’s hard to drink water. Talk to Jesus. I feel for you. My room mate bothers me too. Eat veggies daily. Get a cbc test. See if you need any supplements.

I'm suffering from ocd anxiety with intrusive thoughts, my biggest fear is losing control of myself and going crazy, i think you should have a trigger warning in the description as everytime he talks about his dad i was personally triggerred as that's the worst case scenario in my head

Trigger warnings make you more anxious. It makes sense logically, but it makes the fear of what could be said worse.

Dear Doc, you are saying no one can have had this brilliant love and all of a sudden if 25 years old, I start saying I can’t be connected to people and I can’t love WITHOUT having a trauma in the childhood. What if someone didn’t have a trauma and the relationships diminished? Could it be a mental illness “without a childhood trauma or drugs or bad lifestyle ?

Dr Russ how do I find the right therapist with your approach ? I have a person who disclosed trauma, sexual assault in past , unaddressed and now manifest as persistent alarm. I am not sure current therapy is actually working for this person . What you are saying makes sense to me. I would like this person receive the therapy they need and deserve.

At 21:55 , what receptors is he referring to ? Is there a way to check on those circuits in our brain and how healthy/responsive they are? I often feel like I can’t connect
@VoxMachina811 ай бұрын
He referencing something talked about in polyvagal theory. People need social connection to help create a feeling of safety. It's working fine for you. It's subconscious, so it's not something you can turn on or off. You just know when you feel safe around certain people and not around others.
