shayna, i have a question. how did you manage to balance work (in the moment you weren’t a full time artist) and doing art? because i feel like it takes my whole day working then feeling tired but it’s really hurting me being like this. i love you; thank you 💞
@seagurll Жыл бұрын
Shayna likely has a better answer than I'm about to give but for what it's worth as someone who's struggled with this: I watched this Instagram live Lana Del Rey did kzbin.info/www/bejne/iKuUXqdun99nl9Esi=FJUNinYdHNYMUIgz&t=543 (it should automatically start playing there but if not, the timestamp is 9:03) and the advice she gave stuck with me and has kept my writing a consistent, daily thing, even when it feels like I'm living in Groundhog Day and/or recapping the most boring days any person could possibly have lmao. Another great piece of advice I heard a while ago: if possible, befriend and/or simply have acquaintances who inspire you with their creativity and personal growth to surround yourself with, so that you'll have a mixture of encouragement, healthy competition, second opinions on any works in progress, and so on. I wish you the best with all you aspire to do and be. You got this. 😇💖

this is so real. i'm a marketing director for a destination marketing organization, and i often feel my creative energy and will totally drained by 5pm. i want to paint in my studio after work but have nothing left. one strategy is doing some chores before work so you don't have that pressing obligation after work.. and trying (making yourself) start winding down 30 minutes before leaving work so you aren't frazzled right up until you have to leave home feeling totally gassed out. those two things are simple but have been very helpful for me.
@JRose-zk1ni Жыл бұрын
@@callie.envoyage I feel the same way - something I've been doing lately (and it's challenging) is waking up earlier . I aim for getting in at least 15 worth of sketching or painting before I start getting ready for work. If you can do more, great - but if not, aim for just the 15 minutes. It'a amazing how empowered you feel for the rest of your day. You start your work day knowing that you gave the very best of yourself BEFORE your day job sucked it all out of you. I'm finding this really helps . You just have to plan out what you plan on doing the night before so that you're not waisting your 15 minutes trying to figure out what you're going to do. We've got thisj!!! lol..🙂

Amazing question ! I feel like the important thing is to look at your side hustles as just that - side gigs and try to take jobs that accommodate your REAL work, your art! For example when I was in Art school I had a full Saturday and Sunday job (12 hour shifts each day) So I could be free during the week to focus on my studio time. During that time I developed other side hustles so I could quit the Saturday and Sunday job eventually. A lot of my Artist friends choose to have flexible side hustles (teaching, waitressing, etc) with 15-25 hours a week so they can have time for their Art work. Having said that, they have very little extra money because they choose to work less hours but they DO have time for their artwork ! hope that helps!

@@JRose-zk1ni that's so good, great job! I bet it does feel good- like you actually own your life! I have often dreamed of doing that, but I never do. Maybe I'll use your wisdom as inspiration. Something to rise early for, for sure... Thank you!

Being an artist is not a dream or a choice. It's innate, obvious - you either are one or you aren't. Now making a living off of it though, that's different. It sucks that most people are reluctant to pay artists what they're worth when we can dish out 10$ for an oat milk latte. On the other hand, we also want art to stay accessible and i know without a bunch of free art in my youth, i wouldn't have been exposed to as much as i have. So it is a fine line and pretty complex issue.❤

Very inspirational video Shayna... I was struggling for years to sell my oil paintings. For years I refused to get into digital art because I always thought it takes the uniqueness of my work away and is easier to copy. Now, I am sitting in online lessons for Photoshop and Illustrator and just see it as a new tool which I can use - and actually can make enough money with it without necessarily hating my job. Traditional art will always be the love of my life. But at some point you do really think of other ways how to make money and not having to neglect your creative self

I'm an illustrator who has basically "given up" art as a career because it was just so hard for me in the US (I'm an American - we actually share a hometown lol) and watching your vids have always really struck me as like. Man. I could do that. Anyway, now I'm learning French and planning on a move to Paris either later this year, or early next year. And I chose Paris because I think it's the city that's going to give me the biggest shot to finding my way again in arts. I feel like my love of art has been kind of... I don't know, corrupted, or maybe perverted in some way because it's been so hard to pay bills and mixing capitalism with art is just a recipe for disaster. I (maybe!) plan on going to art school eventually after I settle into Paris despite being 30. Thank you for being you and posting videos. Much love

Have you considered creating a notebook / workbook on learning french? I'm a preschool teacher and I've been kind of learning french (not really but using doulingo) because I actually have 2 kids who speak french / have french families and one of them is very - uh - complex so wanted to learn french to see if she would listen to me more (she speaks english fluently, but was hoping i could catch her off guard by saying something in french l o l ). My intent isn't to be fluent, but just to be able to pass to speak french. the other french girl is very small but she said "yes" in french when i asked if she wanted more food and it motivated to think about learning french more seriously to create the inclusivity in a classroom.

I hope you don't take this as shade or anything negative, but have you considered that you might be autistic? The thing you were talking about with authority is often referred to as ASD and divesting from social hierarchy are common autistic traits. There's a lot of other things about you that I've noticed from your online presence that suggests to me that you are neurodivergent. Sincerely, an autistic person :)
@thepurplepalace85 Жыл бұрын
Hey! Interesting I didn’t know that about diverting from authority and ASD. I am curious what other traits of autism do you think I exhibit ? ✨💗
@LiP-gh6rr Жыл бұрын
@@thepurplepalace85 I think that the way you rebel against "societal norms" and ability to engage in play can also be interpreted as autistic traits....like the way when you experience joy it seems to almost possess you/overflow from you, at least how you've captured yourself in your vlogs. You sometimes talk about feeling like you "live in your own world" and that's a common thing that autistic people say to help explain their experience (I feel that way a lot, apparently it's common in women who are autistic) I've been peer diagnosed and have done research by connecting with other autistic people, if you are interested in exploring that part of yourself I would recommend doing some research and if you have neurodivergent friends ask them what they think because I've been peer diagnosed multiple times. If you feel a different level or ease of connection when interacting with autistic people, it may be possible that you are too!
